Jasmine Fae Chapter 16: New Home

“Jazz, we’re so sorry. I intended to wait for you, but one night Venus and I got really drunk, and ended up sleeping together. She got pregnant, and well we got married.” He was about to say something else but I held my hands out in a stopping motion.

“Stop. Just stop. I don’t want to hear this. Look, I’m leaving, for good this time, so neither of you will have to deal with me anymore. Have a nice life.”

“Wait Jasmine, come back.” Ash called for me as I flew away as fast as I could. Standing there, watching my cousin and my ex start their little family was too hard. It was childish to run away, but that’s kind of my thing. I always run away when things get hard.

I ran all the way back to the beach. After seeing what happened to them after I left, I couldn’t handle seeing what happened to the rest of my family while I was gone. I also didn’t want to disrupt their lives. So far it seemed like everyone had excepted that I died, and they were all happy now. Ruining that illusion would be selfish.

“You’re back early.” Dimitri stated from behind me. We had only been here for forty-five minutes, and I already wanted to get back on the boat and leave.

“You’re early too, did you get all the stuff?” I tried to avert the conversation away from me.

“I did, did you see all you’re family members?” He asked, already knowing the answer. I shook my head.

“He married my best friend, who also happens to be my cousin. They’re having a baby together.” I said with a sarcastic laugh as I pulled myself out of the sand. “I really don’t wanna see how happy the rest of my family is, since they all think I’m dead.”

“Let’s go then.” He ushered me off the beach and back into the boat.

He didn’t say anything as he started up the boat and drove off into the horizon. This was the second time I was boating away from the Valley, but this time I knew I would never be coming back.

“How long until we get to safety?” I asked, he wouldn’t tell me where we were going, all he would say was that it was the safest place he could find.

“About a week, if we take turns driving.”

*One week later*

The water here was a bright blue, unlike the dull blue’s like the ocean’s surrounding the Valley and Bridgeport.

“Where are we?” I asked.

“Isla Paradiso, it’s an place full of witches. They’ve agreed to let us live here, we have our own private island.” He said with a smile.

“Wow.” The house we would be living in came into view. It looked gorgeous on the outside, I just hoped the same could be said for the inside.

When we got to the house, we pulled the boat onto land and immediately headed for the front door.

“Alright, I hope you like it. But if you don’t, I can have an interior designer come and make it however you want.”

“You don’t have to do that Dimi, it can’t be that bad.” I laughed nervously. I really hoped this place wasn’t terrible.

“It’s no problem, she’s already coming to decorate the nursery.” He explained while he unlocked the door. The mention of a nursery reminded me of the baby growing inside me. I almost forgot it was there. Almost.

We stepped inside the house, and all previous doubt washed away. “Dimitri, this place is perfect!” I laughed excitedly.

It was quaint and simple. It would be the perfect place to raise my child.

“I’m glad you like it, Jazz. You can have the master, I’ll take one of the other rooms.”

“How many bedrooms does this place have?”

“Awesome. I’m gonna go take a nap.” I told him as I started heading up the stairs.

“Alright, there are some clothes for you in the dresser, if you’d like to change.” He called out to me as he headed for the kitchen.

“Thanks Dimi.”

The second story was just bedrooms, with a little nook with an easel by the window. As I opened the doors, trying to find the master, I couldn’t help but wonder, how long had Dimitri been planning this? I was only in the facility for a month, could he have planned this in that amount of time, or was he planning on moving out here and getting away from his family?

My thoughts disappeared when I found the master bedroom. Just the view out the window was gorgeous, and the bedroom itself was plain and simple, just like I like it.

The bed looked so, so comfortable. After sleeping in a boat for a little less than a month, I couldn’t wait to flop down and sleep.

I didn’t even change my clothes before throwing myself onto the bed. It was even more comfortable than I imagined.

As I started to dose off, I pulled my little animal from my pocket. Dimitri grabbed it off my dresser when he left, it was the only thing in the room I brought with me when I came to Bridgeport, so he figured it was important to me.

I remembered the day Ash won the little animal for me. I had just told him I was leaving, and I took it with me to remember him by. Every night before I fell asleep I’d look at it and think of him. I used to imagine what it would be like to be back in his arms. But now, the little animal just reminded me of what I used to have, what I lost. I drifted off as tears started to form in the corners of my eyes.

When I woke up a few hours later, I changed out of my dirty clothes and headed downstairs to find Dimitri.

“Hey Jazz, how you feeling?” He asked as I descended the staircase.

“I’m feeling great, how about you?”

“I’m alright.”

“What’s up?” I took a seat on the couch opposite of him.

“Dunno, I guess I’m just worried. I don’t want them to hurt our families, y’know?” He sighed.

“Isn’t your father in charge?” I wondered aloud.

“Yea, but after what I did I doubt he will be for any longer. He’s the one who gave me my place on the council. They’re gonna go after him.” He ran his fingers through his hair, it was obvious he was stressed.

“Well if you’re dad is even half as smart as you are, he’ll be able to get them all out safely.” I assured him.

“What about you’re family?”

“Don’t worry about them, they’ll never be able to find them. I haven’t been completely honest with you.” I admitted.

“What do you mean?” He gave me a confused look.

“My last name isn’t Blu, it’s Fae.”

“Fae? Like the Royal family Fae?” I nodded. “Wow. I wasn’t expecting that.”

“Yea. So if they try and track me down with my fake last name, they won’t be able to find my family.”

“That’s good then.”

“Don’t stress Dimi. You did the right thing, and I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to thank you enough.”

“No need.” He smiled at me.

“Oh shut it.” I laughed as I walked over to his couch and sprawled across his lap. “So, what’re we watching?”

“Dunno, we don’t get a lot of channels out here.”

“Eh, that’s okay. Do we have any DVDs?”

“Yea, I’ll pop one in.”

Jasmine Fae Chapter 15: Breaking Out and Breaking Hearts

A/N There is gun use in this chapter, read with caution if guns are triggering to you. Thank you.

“Jasmine, wake up.” A familiar voice pulled me from my dreams.

“Dimitri? Is that you?” I mumbled, not fully awake yet.

“Yea Jazz, it’s me.” I pulled myself into a sitting position to get a better look at him. It really was him.

“Was it you who left me those extra blood packets? I thought it was one of the scientists.” I said with a small smile.

“I figured you’d be needing your strength.” He lifted his right arm slightly, that’s when I noticed he was holding a gun.

“Why do you have that?” I questioned him cautiously.

“I’m breaking you out of here, I need to get you out safely.” He explained calmly.

“So you’d be willing to kill someone for me?”

“Not kill, injure.” He smirked. “Here, put these on.” He kicked a small plastic bag over to me. I opened it, and inside were jeans, a t-shirt and my favorite boots. “I doubt you’ll wanna break out of here in a hospital gown.”

After I changed, we immediately got started on getting out of here. We didn’t have much time, even though there were no scientists doing work in the lab, that didn’t mean they weren’t still here. Some of them liked to go over their research in the break-room. I know because sometimes they come in pairs, and they chat while they grab things from the lab.

We stayed against the wall, Dimitri looked down the hall to check if anyone was coming. “It should be clear for a minute or so, come on.” He gestured for me to follow him.

We moved slowly, running into someone as they turned a corner or came out a door was a possibility, and we were trying to avoid it. I couldn’t believe what Dimitri was doing for me. What he was losing for me. He was losing his job, his family, his apartment, his everything. All to break me out of a cage. Maybe Sydney wasn’t joking when she implied he had a crush on me…

My train of thought was broken by the sound of someone clearing their throat. I looked up to see the male human scientist standing at the end of the hallway. Dimitri immediately shoved me behind him and pointed his gun at him.

“I knew it. I’ve always been suspicious of you, Todds.” He growled and crossed his arms.

“Oh? And why is that?”

“You changed opinions mighty fast, you seemed pretty set in your ways. It was all a little suspicious.”

“Then why didn’t you turn me in, Rockwell?” Dimitri asked through gritted teeth.

“Thought about it, didn’t think you had the guts to go through with any stunts. But I guess I was wrong.” He uncrossed his arms and took a step towards us. “Now, let’s put the mutt back in her cage, and we can pretend this never happened.

“Stay back, I’ll shoot you.” He shook the gun at Rockwell.

“Yea, like hell you will. Now let’s get this mutant back where it belongs.”

“Don’t call her that!” Dimitri yelled. He aimed the gun at Rockwell’s head and put his finger on the trigger.

“Dimitri, don’t.” I whispered. “Injure, don’t kill.” My word’s must’ve gotten to him, because he lowered the gun and aimed for his knee.

When Rockwell realized Dimitri really was about to shoot him, he tried to run at us. But Dimitri was faster, and he pulled the trigger. The shot was loud, and it echoed through the empty hallways.

“FUCK.” Rockwell cursed as he crumpled to the floor.

“You shouldn’t have called her that.” Dimitri spat.

He stood at the end of the hallway and watched Rockwell writhe in pain. He shook his head, snapping himself out of the blind rage he was just entranced with.

“Shit, what did I just do?” He was panicking.

“Shh, it’s okay, let’s just get out of here.” I tried to usher him out of the facility. He took off sprinting before I could even grab his arm.

“Come on Jazz, we need to get the hell out of here.” He yelled, repeating what I just told him.

I followed Dimitri outside and into the snow. “Dimitri, where do we go from here? Do you have a plan?” I asked as I caught up with him.

“Yea, I do. Follow me.” He took off running to the side of the facility. I followed him silently, I was a little worried about him after what happened back in the hallway, but that discussion was for another time.

Dimitri stopped at the edge of the ocean next to us. “My boat?” I questioned.

“Yea, we’re gonna take it to safety. I’ve already got a place lined up for us.” He said with a small smile.

“How are we gonna get there? Do we have any idea how to navigate the ocean?”

“I hope you don’t mind but I had a GPS installed in it.”

“What the hell is that?” I asked. I’ve never heard of such a thing.

“It’s a Global Positioning System. It’ll tell us exactly where to go. But I don’t have time to explain this, we probably don’t have a lot of time.”

“Right, let’s go.” I waded into the water and hopped into the boat.

As we sped off into the night, a thought entered my mind. “Hey Dimitri, can this GPS direct us to anywhere in the world?”

“Yea, it sure can. Why?”

“I was wondering if we could stop by Sunset Valley first. I bet if we take turns driving, we’ll get there in half the time.” I couldn’t help but ask. If I was gonna be a fugitive for the rest of my life, I wanted to say goodbye to my family first.

“It’s risky, they’re gonna be looking for us everywhere. We won’t be able to stay long, just a few hours at most.”

“That’ll be perfect.”

*Two weeks later*

Crossing the ocean was a lot more fun with Dimitri then by myself. There were times when I wanted to throw him off the boat, but I guess that’s expected when you’re alone with a person on a boat for two weeks straight. But at least this time I had someone to talk to.

It wasn’t long before Sunset Valley was on the horizon. My stomach was buzzing with butterflies, after all these months I’d finally be seeing Ash again. I’d missed him so much while I was gone, and I could only hope he missed me too. Part of me hoped he’d want to come with us to start our lives over, but another part of me didn’t want to drag him into this.

As soon as Dimitri and I got close to the shore, I jumped out of the boat and started running. The plan was, I’d go visit a few family members while Dimitri went to go pick up some more supplies. Then we’d meet back here in an hour and a half. It wasn’t a lot of time, but I could manage it.

Luckily Ash’s childhood home was only a block from the beach. I knew he’d still be there, his mom was sick and she needed his assistance. I felt a little nauseous as I approached the house. Seeing him again was gonna be surreal.

I rang the doorbell and took a few steps back. My adrenaline was pumping imagining all the possible outcomes of this. He could be excited to see me, or he could be annoyed with my return. Either way, I was nervous.

But this outcome I never would’ve expected.

“Jasmine? Is that you?” My cousin Venus opened the front door and stepped out.

“Yea.” I was confused, why would Venus be at Ash’s house? They weren’t the closest friends when I left. Maybe my leaving drew them closer together.

“We thought you were dead.” She whispered.

“Wh-” I started, but then I looked down.

Venus was pregnant, that much was obvious.

“Jasmine…” She started, but the door opening behind her interrupted her.

“Hey gorgeous, who’s here?” Ash stepped out of the house and buried his face in Venus’s neck before glancing up at me. “Jasmine?” He asked, his face twisting into an expression of shock and horror.

“Hi.” I managed to choke out. “A-are you guys… married?” I asked, and Venus nodded slowly.

“Yea, we’ve been married about four months.”

“I’ve only been gone for six.”

“I’m so sorry, Jasmine. We all thought you were dead.” Ash chimed in apologetically.

“So I’m assuming that baby is yours?” I pointed to Venus’s stomach and he nodded.

I was not expecting this, at all.

Jasmine Fae Chapter 5: Mission Impossible

“Thanks for gathering on such short notice.” My parents stood at the front of the room. They called an emergency F.R.O. meeting with just a few board members.

“Let’s jump right in, Hero, would you start us off?” My mom gestured to our old family friend.

“Well, as you all know, my men and I have been working on disarming the trap in the ocean so we can send people out. So far, we’ve only been able to disarm it for a few minutes at most. But yesterday, we were able to disarm it for forty-five minutes.”

“What does this mean?” Iris asked excitedly.

“This mean that we’ll be able to send someone out there.” Grandma explained.

“This is huge.” Grandpa exclaimed.

“Yes, but are we sure we’re ready for this? We don’t know what’s out there. Sending someone out there could be a suicide mission.”

“I’ll do it.” I blurted out. It was perfect, I needed to get out of this place. I also loved F.R.O., so why not volunteer for this?

“Jasmine, we can’t let you do this.” My grandma sounded worried.

“I’m turning eighteen next month, there’s not really anything you can do to stop me.” I gave her a tight smile. I get that she was worried, but I had to make my own decisions.

“Sweetheart, I think you should think about this. This is a huge decision, you should at least take a few days to think it over.” My grandpa suggested.

“No, I’ve made up my mind. I’m volunteering.” I turned to Hero. “What do I have to do and when do I leave?”

He didn’t answer me and looked at my dad.

“Jazzy, I can’t let you do this.” My dad said.

“You can’t really stop me.” I crossed my arms defiantly.

“Look, I can’t let you go on a suicide mission, Jasmine. What kind of father would I be if I let my daughter do something so dangerous?”

“You don’t have to let me, I’m going whether or not you ‘let’ me. This is something I want to do, so I’m gonna do it.”

“This isn’t something you want to do.” My dad shook his head sadly.

“How do you know what I want?”

My dad looked over at my mom. She smiled sadly at him, and nodded slightly.

“Fine, we won’t try and stop you,” She said, “But just think about this, okay?”

“I’ve thought about it, Mom.”

I looked around the room. Everyone was giving me looks of pity. I didn’t deserve their pity. I did something awful, and I needed to be punished for it. Dying slowly and painfully on a boat in the middle of the ocean sounded ideal.

“I don’t need your pity.” I stood up and glared at them, then turned to Hero. “Call me, tell me what I have to do, and I’ll do it.”

I left the room without another word.

“So you’re really gonna do this?” I met up with Venus, Ash and my sisters after they got out of school the next day. I hadn’t been back at school since what happened, and I wasn’t going too. But at least I was actually leaving the house.

“Yea. I leave a few days after my birthday.” Hero and I had talked on the phone, and he gave me all the details. He’d be teaching me how to drive the boat in a few days.

“So, after that I’m never gonna see you again?” She asked sadly. I hated all the sadness surrounding this. I was doing a good thing.

“I guess.”

“Have you told Ash?” I shook my head. “You should probably tell him. How do you think he’s gonna take it?”

“I don’t know, I hope he’ll be happy for me.”

“What? Why would he be happy about this? He’s probably never gonna see you again and you expect him to be happy?”

“Yea, but he’ll understand. We both love F.R.O. and I know he’d do the same thing if he could.”

“Maybe he should go with you.” She suggested.

“No, this is something I have to do on my own.”

She sighed. “I’m really gonna miss you, Jazz.”

“I’m sorry.”

“I hope you come back someday.”

“That doesn’t seem likely. I’ll probably die out there.”

She sighed again, and shook her head. “Whatever. Maybe you should go talk to Ash.”

I could tell she was upset with me. But it didn’t matter, I’d be out of here soon, and it’ll be easier on her if she hates me when I go.

“Yea, good idea.”

I approached him excitedly, I wanted him to think of this as a good thing, like I did.

“Hey babe, guess what.”

“I’m going on a mission in about a month!” I smiled widely at him.

He took my hands in his. “Oh my god, that’s amazing! What kind of mission is it?”

“An expeditionary one. They’ve figured out how to disarm the ocean traps long enough for me to get past them, and then I just explore the ocean, hopefully finding an island or another city.” His smile fell.

“Babe, that sounds dangerous.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll be fine. And besides, you and I both know I would die for this organization.”

“I know, I just don’t wanna lose you.” He sighed.

“Hey, we’ve still got a month.”

“Yea, but then what?”

I took him in my arms and kissed him. “Let’s cross that bridge when we get to it, okay?”

“Okay.” He smiled. “I’m proud of you, babe.”

“Thanks. I’m glad, everyone else is trying to talk me out of this.”

“I know better, you’re stubborn and you’re dedicated, there’s no stopping you.”

“You’re welcome.” He grabbed my hand and started pulling me away. “I’m gonna win you something, so you can take it with you on your mission and if you miss me, you can just look at it and remember me.”

“You are such a sap.” I joked.

He led me to the claw machine game. He wasn’t very good at the game, but I cheered him on anyway.

To my surprise, he actually won me something. It was a tiny, plastic little animal. He grabbed it from the little slot and handed it to me.

“So you’ll always remember me.”

“Thanks.” I couldn’t help but smile.

“I promise I’ll keep it with me all the time.”

“I’ll miss you.”

“I’ll miss you too.” He said. I gave him a small kiss and left the arcade. It was getting late, and I know he was hurting, and I didn’t want to make it worse.

One month passed a lot faster than I thought it would. My birthday came and went, and now it was time for me to leave. I went around the other day, saying goodbye to all my friends and family. I didn’t want a lot of people at the beach saying goodbye.

But still, my family showed up to see me off. I went down the line and said goodbye to all of them. First up were my grandparents.

“Oh Jazz, we’re gonna miss you.” My grandpa spoke sadly.

“I’ll miss you guys too.”

“Please, don’t let this be the last time I see you.” Grandma was about to cry, I’ve never seen her cry in my life. It was a weird feeling.

“I’ll try.” I lied. I knew I was gonna die out there, I only had a months worth of food, I doubt I’d be able to find any place before I die.

Next up was Venus. She looked a lot different, her mom got her extensions and a new wardrobe for her eighteenth birthday. It was like I didn’t even know her anymore.

“Be careful, okay?” She said awkwardly. Things between us got weird after I volunteered to do this. I didn’t like leaving on a bad note with her, but I didn’t really have a choice.

“I will.” I lied again, lying to them would make me leaving easier.

My parents were next, and they were the ones I was most worried about.

“I really wish you weren’t doing this.” My father crossed his arms.

“I’m sorry.” I didn’t know what else to say. What do you say when you’re leaving the two people who raised you? After a few seconds of silence, I finally choked out a small “Thank you.”

My father nodded slightly, and I nodded back. There wasn’t anything else to say.

“Why do I have to lose everyone I’ve ever loved?” I heard my mom whisper to my dad, barely audible over the crashing of the waves. I felt my heart break, I hadn’t even thought about how my mom lost her parents and her husband during a mission. She also lost her sister, and now she was about to lose one of her daughters. I swallowed my tears and moved on to my sisters.

“You guys be good, okay?”

“We will, you be good too.” Iris smiled sadly at me. I worried about her, she didn’t have very good judgement. Hell, she was considering dating Sage until I told her that he was Venus’s ex. I just hoped she wouldn’t get into any serious crap after I left.

“I’ll miss you.” Ivy whispered.

“You too kiddo.”

Ash was the last person in line. As soon as I saw him, I couldn’t help but kiss him.

“I love you Jazz.”

“I love you too.”

“Don’t forget me, okay?” He asked, his eyes brimming with tears. I felt horrible for hurting him, but I’d feel even worse if I stayed.

“I could never.”

I kissed him one last time before climbing into my boat.

I sped off into the vast ocean, never looking back.

Jasmine Fae Chapter 4: What Have I Done?

A/N There’s a little bit of blood in this chapter, not a lot but read with caution if blood is triggering to you. This chapter is also triggering to people who have struggled with self-hatred or self harm, so again, read with caution. Thank you.

I couldn’t believe what I had done. I’ve never used my powers before, and now I never want to use them again. Cherry’s life had been ruined after what I did to her. Her friends shut her out, no one would talk to her, and once word got to her parents about what she told, they shut her out too. She had no one, and it was all my fault.

I was an awful person. Fairies are supposed to use their powers for good, and what I did wasn’t good at all. I finally felt like every terrible thing Cherry said to me was true. I was filthy. I was a Mutt. And I definitely didn’t deserve to live after what I did.

I was scum. I ruined an entire family. After what happened, the school made us all write statements for the police. They were investigating the hybrid-baby case, they were trying to find out if they really killed the child or just told Cherry that they did. So far, it looked like they did. And that meant that they’d be going to jail. It was all my fault. This would’ve never happened if I hadn’t let my emotions get the best of me.

I was so absorbed in my thoughts, that I didn’t even hear the door open.

I jumped a little when Mom sat down on my bed.

“How’re you doing baby?” She asked, her voice full of concern. She should be angry at me, after what I did. She should’ve expelled me and grounded me for life. But instead, she suspended me for a few days so I could relax. She was going way too easy on me.

“It doesn’t matter how I’m doing.”

“Of course it matters, sweetheart.”

“Mom, I don’t deserve sympathy. You should be asking Cherry if she’s okay.”

“Baby, what happened wasn’t your fault. Your powers are a lot stronger than we realized, and when you got angry you couldn’t control it anymore. There was nothing you could do.” She tried to comfort me, but I knew she was wrong. I could’ve controlled it. I could’ve prevented the whole thing, if I hadn’t confronted her this would’ve never happened.

“So now what do I do?” I didn’t have the energy to keep protesting.

“I’m working on that. Since you’re the only one with powers like this,” She chose her words carefully, she didn’t want to say anything that would trigger me. “we don’t know much about them. I can arrange for you to have a teacher to help you discover your powers and how to use them properly.”

“No. I don’t want to use them, ever. I can’t handle it.”

“I know you’re upset, but you might change your mind. Let me know, okay?” She asked, and I gave her a small nod. “Good. So, Dad and I are going out tonight, but if you need anything your sisters are here and Aunt Fern and Uncle Palm are just across the street, okay?”

“Okay. Have fun.”

It was my first day back at school after my suspension. I hadn’t talked to anyone outside of my immediate family since the incident, and it was obvious my friends were walking on eggshells around me.

“So are you guys ready for the test today?” Venus tried to take all our minds away from the incident. We knew Cherry would be arriving any minute now, and things were tense.

“Yea, it’s just a history test.” Ash laughed nervously.

Every time the front doors would open, everyone would look. We were all nervous about what would happen. But she hadn’t shown yet.

And when she did show, she was hardly recognizable. Her usually voluminous hair was flat and straight. She was wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt, not her usual cheer uniform. Her make-up was smeared, it was obvious she’d been crying this morning.

I felt awful. I needed to talk to her. I needed to apologize.

“Cherry.” I approached her cautiously, I didn’t want to upset her.

“Go away.” She buried her face in her hand.

“Cherry I’m so sorry.”

“Leave me alone!” She screamed, and ran off. I stood there, feeling like I was about to breakdown. I wasn’t going too, the entire school was staring at me and I wasn’t about to cry openly like that. But I still felt like I would.

Venus came up behind me and wrapped her arm around my shoulder. “C’mon, let’s get to class.”

Between classes, I stopped to use the restroom. I had started to tear up during the test, and I was worried my make-up was smudged.

I was expecting the bathroom to be empty, they usually are during passing periods. But the bathroom wasn’t empty. It took me a moment to realize what was all over the floor.

There was a trail of blood, leading from the sinks to the stalls.

“Hello?” I called out nervously. I walked slowly over to the stalls, fearing what I would find on the other side of the wall.

The trail of blood led to a slumped over Cherry. Her wrists were soaked in blood, and I realized what had happened. Cherry had tried to commit suicide.

Everything felt like I was moving through quick sand. I ran over to Cherry, screams filling the bathroom. I didn’t even notice I was the one screaming.

I took Cherry into my arms, not caring that I was getting blood all over my bare legs.

“Cherry, please wake up. Please. I’m so sorry.” I repeated that over and over, I didn’t want her to die. Yes, she had been a total bitch to me, but she didn’t deserve to die.

Before I knew it, I was being pulled off her by a teacher. The last thing I heard before collapsing was the screams of my peers as they rushed into the bathroom.

They were too late, they couldn’t save her. Cherry died, and it was all my fault. I caused a girl to commit suicide. I was scum.

I wasn’t entirely sure how long it had been since she died. I was constantly in and out of consciousness, I’d sleep through the day and be awake all night. I completely stopped going to school, my grades were dropping so low my best option would be to drop out.

My time was spent wondering through the house. I’d usually end up in random places, like the garden or the front porch. Right now, I was currently sitting in the bathtub.

My family kept trying to talk to me, but I didn’t listen to them. Nothing they could say would make this any better. No matter what they said, a girl was dead because of me.

Right now, it was Iris who was trying to get through to me. Usually, I never responded to anything they said, but today I felt like I should say something.

“Jazz, you really should come back to school.” She sighed and rested her head in her hands.

“Why? I’ll just fuck up again and make someone else commit suicide. It’s safer for everyone if I stay here.” I said, she jumped in surprise, not expecting me to respond.

“Because, if you don’t go back soon, you won’t be able to graduate. You’re so close to graduation, you shouldn’t mess it up now.”

“I can’t go back.” I glanced over at her. “It doesn’t matter, I’m gonna be eighteen in a month. I’m gonna leave here, so no one can get hurt because of me again.”

“But where will you go? We can’t leave the Valley.”

“I don’t know yet, but I can’t stay here.”

“You gotta at least try.” She climbed off the toilet and crouched down in front of me.

“I did, and I can’t do it. I’m just gonna leave. I’ll figure it out.”

“If you leave, Mom will never forgive herself if something happened to you. You know what happened with her parents and her first husband.” She frowned before standing up and leaving me alone in the bathroom.

I’d never forgive myself if something didn’t happen to me. I didn’t deserve to live, I hope something terrible happens to me when I leave.

Jasmine Fae Chapter 3: Red Hot

A/N Sorry for the wait on this chapter, I wish I had a valid excuse but I don’t. I got way too into Supernatural and I’ve been watching it obsessively instead of playing sims. But I managed to pull myself away long enough to get a chapter put together. Thanks for waiting!

Mom and Dad planned a huge party for Ivy and Iris’s birthday. They were turning fourteen, they were gonna be starting high school soon. They were both really excited, they couldn’t wait to be able to do older kid things.

My parents were sad that their youngest kids were getting older, so they decided to throw a huge party with all of the family. When I say all of the family, I mean all of them.

The first ones to arrive were Aunt Fern and Uncle Palm. They had just had a new baby, a little boy named Ficus. The middle child, Periwinkle was becoming a handful, just like Venus. But that didn’t make Venus like him any more.

The second ones to arrive were Aunt Missy and Aunt Amber. They weren’t officially married, they said they didn’t need to. They also didn’t have any children, but they were happy with just the two of them.

The next to arrive was Uncle Dill and Aunt Alyssum. Alyssum was Dill’s third wife, he divorced his first wife before I was born, married his second wife soon after, divorced her a few years later, then married again. Alyssum was Aunt Fern’s half-sister, which made the whole thing a little strange. They weren’t exactly my favorite relatives.

Papa was the next to show up. We didn’t see him often, he was involved in some sketchy stuff but Dad still wanted us to have a relationship with him. He never remarried after his wife left him, but I know he’s been dating around.

Uncle Carrot and Uncle Maple showed up soon after. They were probably the most famous couple in our family. Maple was a famous television actor, and Carrot was a star athlete. Iris looked up to him, she was obsessed with sports and she wanted to be just like him.

Last but certainly not least, my favorite relatives arrived. Grandma and Grandpa were the coolest people I’ve ever met. Grandpa was a rockstar, he still sold out shows every weekend. Grandma had retired from music, but she still drove her motorcycle everywhere. That’s pretty bad-ass for a woman approaching sixty.

Uncle Basil was pretty cool too. He was actually my great-uncle, but it was just easier to call him uncle. He was an author, he wrote about his times with the scientists and how they fixed his hearing. He also still volunteered for experiments, so he could steal our old texts from the scientists.

My cousin Aster was a tough guy. His mom recently died, Aunt Poppy was a drug addict and she overdosed a few months ago. He wasn’t too affected by it, his mom abandoned him when he was a toddler and he’d lived with our grandparents his whole life. He spoke to her probably ten times in his life, but still it had to have been hard on him.

We all had to gather in the backyard, since the house would probably explode if we tried to fit everyone in there. My sister’s were anxious to get into their teens, so we started almost immediately after everyone arrived.

Ivy went first, since she was born first. I also think she wanted to go first so she could get this over with. She hated being outside, and she hated being surrounded by people, so this was pretty much hell for her. But she was excited to be a teenager, so she didn’t complain.

Iris went right after. She was ever more excited than Ivy. High school for her meant sports, and she couldn’t wait.

Even though they were twins, they honestly couldn’t be any different. Ivy was even more shut in now that she was a teen, all she wanted to do was curl up with a book and ignore everyone. Iris on the other hand, only got more social. As soon as she finished her transformation she was texting someone. She was like a little butterfly.

But even though they were polar opposites, they were the best of friends. They were practically inseparable at home, I just hope they can keep that bond throughout high school.

After cake, everyone just started talking and hanging out. It was nice to have all my family together, I don’t think we’ve all been together at once like this.

“Hey babe, having fun?” I asked Ash, the girls let me invite one person, and since Venus was already a relative I decided on Ash. He had to meet my family eventually, why not get it all done in one shot?

“Yea, Your family is awesome! Why didn’t you tell me your uncles are Maple and Carrot Reyna? They’re like the two coolest guys ever.” He told me excitedly. I laughed, I never took him as the kind of person who’d get star-struck.

“It never came up.” I teased. “So, you like my family?”

“Yea, they’re a little nuts but all great families are.” He smiled. He was right, we were pretty nuts.

“My parents seem to like you.” My parents weren’t really strict about boys, so I wasn’t surprised when they told me they really liked him.

“That’s good.” He took my hands in his and smiled at me. “Jazz, I know we’ve only been dating a few weeks, but I feel like we really get each other, and well, I’m in love with you.”

“Wow, that was unexpected.”

“Sorry. Did that make you uncomfortable?”

“No, of course not. I thought you’d be freaked out by my family, I didn’t expect you to like them, and I didn’t expect you to say that you love me after meeting them.” I said with a laugh.

“Oh, good.”

“Oh, and just so you know, I love you too.”

The party lasted for a few hours, but before long it was time for everyone to leave. Me, Iris, Ivy and Ash decided to hang out here for a while, we had nothing better to do for the rest of the day.

We tried to get Venus to hang out with us, but she hasn’t been herself lately. With the abortion, the break up, and her new little brother, she was under a lot of stress. I’m hoping that she’ll bounce back soon, especially after I confront Cherry next week. Maybe after I put her in her place, Venus will feel a little better.

But right now I was gonna talk to my sisters about high-school.

“So guys, you excited for high school? I asked.

“Hell yea.” Iris cheers from the floor.  “I can’t wait to enter tournaments, it’s gonna be awesome!” Since our school was the only one in town, we didn’t have a rival school to play team sports against. So our school did single-person sports, and held tournaments every five weeks.

“Yea, of course you will. You’re more of a sports freak than Uncle Carrot.” I joked. “What about you Ivy?”

“Well, I’m looking forward to the library. I hear they’ve got thousands of books there.” I cocked an eyebrow.

“Is that it?”

“Yea, and I guess I’m excited that I’m finally old enough to start sitting in on F.R.O. meetings.”

“Oh yea, that’s gotta be cool.” Ash said. He knew about F.R.O., but he was too young to join. The only reason we were allowed in the meetings was because our parents ran the entire organization. And because one of us would be taking on the leadership role in a few years.

“I can’t wait until you’re old enough to join, it’s gonna be so awesome.” I scooted closer to him.

“Me either. Maybe one day we could go on a mission together.”

“Mmm, you know I love it when you talk about missions.” I half-moaned, making Iris make a fake puking noise.

“God Jazz, I never expected you to be the love-y type.” She joked. I threw a candy wrapper at her.

“Shut up.” I pouted, and she stuck her tongue out at me.

Maybe now that my sisters are older, we could actually be friends.

“You okay V?” I asked my cousin as we walked into school a few days later. She’d only been back to school a few times since what happened.

“I guess. I just wanna get this over with.”

“Hey, isn’t that your sister?” Ash whispered quietly to me, and pointed over to the corner where Sage’s locker was.

“Holy crap I think it is.” I whispered back. Iris was standing at Sage’s locker, and it looked like she was flirting with him.

“Shit.” He cursed under his breath.

“I’ll deal with that later. I’ve got someone else I’ve gotta deal with right now.” I clenched my fists and made my way over to Cherry.

“Hey Cherry, can you stop sucking face for a second? We need to talk.”

“Go away Mutt, can’t you see I’m busy?” She pulled away from Rye and glared at me.

“I don’t really give a shit.”

“What?” She snapped, and pushed Rye off her. He walked away, and called his little jock friend to follow him.

“What is wrong with you?” I knew this wasn’t going to end well, but I didn’t care.

“What’s wrong with me? Haven’t you looked in the mirror? I’m not the weird Mutt girl.” She sneered.

“Screw you. Why are you always such a bitch to everyone?”

“I’m not a bitch, I’m just giving you what you deserve.”

“I don’t really care what you do to me. You can call me names and whatever the hell you want, but why did you have to do such a terrible thing to Venus?”

“Aw, your cuzzie needs you to stand up for her? That’s so sad.” She laughed, and so did her little side-kick.

“Listen, all I want is two things. One, I want you to leave Venus alone. Two, I wanna know why you torment me so much. I haven’t done anything wrong, and there’s no reason you should be messing with me at all.”

“You are the reason, you filthy little mutt.” I could feel my blood start to boil. She was really pissing me off.

“All I want is an explanation, then you can continue to give me all the shit you want.” I was pushing her, because I knew there had to be a reason for her to be doing this.

“I already told you. God, is your little hybrid brain that tiny?”

I don’t know what happened. I felt a huge rush of something over my body, it felt like a electrical shock, but like in a wave.

All I saw was red and Cherry’s snobby little face cowering against a locker. I had my arm pinned against her neck, I don’t remember how it got there though.

“Tell me.” A voice growled. It sounded so savage and barbaric, but I soon realized it was my voice.

That snapped me out of it. I took a step back, removing my arm from her neck. She fell to the floor, and the red light vanished.

“Oh my god, Cherry.” I was freaking out. I was terrified I might’ve hurt her.

I held my hand out to help her off the floor. She pulled herself up, ignoring my hand.

She stood in front of me with a blank expression on her face.

“I’m so sorry, are you okay?” I asked, but she ignored me.

“There is a reason I tease you.” She admitted, but her voice sounded monotonous, and I realized what I had done. My mom had told me about it when she was teaching me about fairy powers. I had put her into a truth trance.

“My mother had an affair with a fairy when I was six.” I was wracking my brain, trying to remember how to stop this. A crowd had gathered around us, and I had a feeling this wasn’t something she wanted people to know.

“She got pregnant, even though she was so careful. She tried to play it off as my father’s baby. But her plan was ruined when the baby came out with sparkles. But on closer inspection, they realized the little boy was also a vampire.”

I was shocked, I thought I was the only hybrid to ever exist. As soon as she said that, everyone started to whisper.

Despite my best efforts to reverse the trance, Cherry was still talking.

“They decided not to let anyone know, and tell them the baby was a still born. They took the baby deep into the forest, and threw him into the electric field that surrounds the Valley. They couldn’t stand the thought of being outcasts. I torment you, because I’m jealous of you. I’m angry that you got to live, and my little brother didn’t.”

Everyone silenced. No one knew what to say.

Cherry broke out of her trance soon after she finished. I’ll never forget the way she looked at me. Her expression was filled with terror and sadness. She ran off crying after realized everyone was staring at her.

I couldn’t believe what I had done.

Jasmine Fae Chapter 2: Extra Credit

A/N This chapter contains some controversial topics. Not everyone will agree with some of the choices made in this chapter, but the story has to be told. Also, the italicized text is Venus recalling what happened. How she describes it to Jasmine is a lot less graphic, but it’s easier to tell the story this way.

Not long after our first date, Ash and I became an official couple. We were having tons of fun together, he was a really amazing boyfriend and we got along great. He had yet to meet my parents, but I was hoping that wouldn’t be happening any time soon. My parents were pretty embarrassing. They were happy for me, but they were insistent on meeting him.

Not everyone was happy for me though. Cherry and her little gang were relentless, shouting things at Ash and I as we walked through the hallways. Whenever they did, he’d always squeeze my hand reassuringly, to remind me that he was here for me. It was nice to have some more support.

“Come on Ash, you could do so much better.” Pepper’s squeaky little voice giggled at him.

“Nah, I think I’ve got the best possible.” He smiled at me and we continued our walk down the hallway.

“Morning guys.” I said to Venus and Sage as Ash and I approached them.

“Morning.” Sage mumbled against Venus’s neck. Sage wasn’t much of a morning person.

“So guys, are we still on for tomorrow night?” Ash asked them, referring to the double date we had planned.

“I’ll have to get back to you on that.” Venus sounded nervous and upset, and I had a feeling I’d be finding out why soon. “Hey Jazz, I have to go to the bathroom, coming with?” She asked with a nervous glance.

“What’s going on, V?”

“Not out here, I’ll explain in a sec.”

When we entered the girls bathroom, Venus checked all the stalls to make sure we were alone. Once she checked each one, she locked the main door so we could be completely alone. “Oh god Jazz. I did something awful.” Venus covered her face and started to sob. I felt awkward, I’ve only seen my cousin cry a handful of times. She wasn’t the weepy type, so I knew this had to be something serious. But still, I didn’t want to jump to conclusions so I let her explain herself first.

“Hey, hey it can’t be that bad. Tell me what happened, I can help.”

Screenshot-4634 “I was desperate, okay? So please don’t judge me.”

“I won’t, I promise.” I assured her. Whatever it was, it couldn’t be that bad, could it?

Well, I was failing science. It was the end of the term, and if I didn’t get a good grade I would have to retake that semester.. So I went to Mr. Retten, to see if there was anything I could do to bring up my grade. When I say anything, I mean anything.

“Hey Mr. Retten, is there any extra credit I could do to bring my grade up?”I asked him as I approached his desk.

“Sorry, I have to send in the grades in about an hour. There’s nothing I can do.” He sounded legitimately upset, so I decided to put plan B into action.

Plan B was a really, really stupid idea. I half-climbed onto his desk, bending over so my cleavage was visible.I knew it was working, because he couldn’t keep his eyes off my chest. “Are you sure there’s nothing I could do?”

“Venus, you know I can’t.”

“No one has to know.”

I climbed all the way over the desk, so now I was standing right next to him. I slowly bent down and delicately touched my lips to his, and he didn’t pull back. We kept kissing like that until things started getting more heated.

Mr. Retten stood up, never breaking contact with my lips. He picked me up by my hips and slammed me against the wall.

“…and I bet you can guess what happened next.” She gave me a guilty look. I couldn’t believe this. Venus had cheated on Sage, with our teacher, all for a better grade! But I promised I wouldn’t judge her. She was still my best friend, after all.

“Are you okay?” Was all I could muster at this point. I felt awful for not knowing how to respond.

“That’s not even the worst part.” She was sobbing even harder now.

“What do you mean?”

“I’ve been vomiting, I missed my period, my boobs are sore and I’m starting to crave weird things. I think I might be pregnant.” Oh my god.

Screenshot-4571 “Oh. Well, do you have a pregnancy test?” I asked, and she nodded, “Alright, we’ve still got twenty minutes before class. Go take the test.”

“B-but what if it’s positive? I can’t raise a baby right now.” She started crying even harder.

“Hey, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it, okay? Just take the test first.” I didn’t know if I was doing the right thing here, but who the hell would?

I jumped up on the counter while Venus went to take the test. I was nervous for her. If she were pregnant, not only would she be seventeen and pregnant, the father would be her teacher. There was no way she could pretend like it was Sage’s baby. She had told me last week that they weren’t ready to go all the way yet.

“Done?” I asked when she walked out of the stall. She nodded, and joined me over at the counter.

After waiting three minutes, the test showed a tiny little plus sign. She was pregnant. As soon as she saw the sign, she burst into tears.

She flung herself onto me. Her sobs were loud and gross, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from a pregnant teenage girl. “Hey, it’s okay, we’ll figure this out, okay?”

“Take me to the clinic.” She muttered into my shoulder. “What?” “To the abortion clinic. I can’t keep this baby.”

“Are you sure?” I asked warily. She was making a lot of hasty decisions, I didn’t want her to do something she’d regret.

After school I drove Venus over to the hospital. She was terrified someone would see her, she didn’t want anyone to know what had happened. If this got out, Mr. Retten could lose his job. She didn’t want that, since she was the one who instigated it but that wouldn’t matter in court.

We stood outside the hospital, she was going to go in alone so her risk of being seen wouldn’t be as high.

“Are you sure you wanna do this today? I mean, you could just think about it for a few days, just so you don’t make any rash decisions.”

“I can’t, if I keep this thing in me any longer, I’ll get attached to it. I can’t have this baby, it’ll ruin too many lives.” She sighed, I knew this would be hard for her, but I also knew this was the best decision.

“Alright. Do you want me to wait for you?”

“No, I don’t know how long this is gonna take. I don’t want you to have to wait out here, and I also don’t want you to be seen. If someone sees you they’re gonna wonder why you’re here.”

“Fine, but you better call me as soon as you get home.” I was a little wary, leaving her here all by herself. Neither of us knew the emotional state she’d be in after the fact, and I was worried. But this wasn’t my situation, all I could do was be there for her.

“I will, I promise. I’ll walk over to Moonlight Arcade after, and have my mom pick me up there. It’s gonna be fine, I promise.” The last part sounded like she was trying to convince herself. But I just nodded, and watched her walk into that hospital alone.

The next day, both Venus and I were exhausted. I had snuck out of my house to go over to hers. She was taking it all a lot harder than she thought she would. She was a total wreck. I didn’t mind being there for her, she’d been there for me plenty of times. But I was so tired I could barely even keep my eyes open. The things we do for the people we love…

We were all hanging out in the school cafeteria that day. The hallways weren’t a great place to study, we had a huge history test next period and none of us had studied. I kept glancing over at Venus, who looked uncomfortable and upset. I was surprised neither of the boys had noticed.

We were in the middle of vocabulary when Cherry and Pepper approached our table.

“Hey, Venus, right?” She asked, her voice a sickeningly mocking tone.

“Yea, why?” Venus was not in the mood for her shit.

“Pepper and I wanted to see how you were doing, we heard about your um…” She placed her hand across her own stomach. “Little one. How’d the abortion go?”

The two of them started to snicker. I looked around in horror as the two boys started to get what was happening. For once I wished Cherry was bothering me.

Sage jumped up, throwing his chair back. Venus stood up too, but less violently.

“What the hell, Venus?”

“Sage, please. Let me explain.” She begged, but that only made him angrier.

“What? Are you gonna try and tell me it was mine? How the hell would that be, since we haven’t even slept together yet.” He was yelling now, and the few people in the Cafeteria were all staring.

A sick little smile spread across Cherry’s face. “Oh my god.” She said, when she realized Sage wasn’t the father.

“Please, Sage.”

“Save it. I don’t wanna hear it.”

Sage fled the cafeteria without hearing what Venus had to say. She stood there, holding her face in her hands. C’mon V, fight back. I thought to myself. Give these bitches what they deserve.

As soon as I finished thinking it, Venus swung around to face Cherry.

“How the hell did you know any of this?”

“Caught the end of your conversation. Just because you lock the bathroom door doesn’t mean no one can hear you.” She looked proud of herself, as if she had won a prize.

“Okay, but what gives you the right to say shit like that?”

“I have the right to say whatever I want.”

“Yea, well you know what, next time you to and talk shit about someone who had an abortion, maybe you should remember your own.” Venus was screaming now, and Cherry’s face paled.

“What?” She whispered, but everyone could hear it since the room was dead silent.

“Oh yea, I know about that. You and that vampire guy you were sleeping with last year, knocked you up. You shouldn’t be such a hypocrite.”

“At least I didn’t cheat on my boyfriend.” She said smugly.

“Don’t fucking go there, and stay out of my business.”

“I’ll do whatever I want. You’re gonna pay for this, Slut.” She then glanced over at me. “Hey. Mutt and Slut! They rhyme, how cute.”

“Go away Cherry, you’ve caused enough shit today.” Ash spoke up. She glared at him, but spun on her heel and dragged Pepper out of the cafeteria.

Venus pulled her chair back to the table and sat down. She buried her face in her arms and started to sob.

How the hell was I going to fix this one?

Jasmine Fae Chapter 1: My Own Battles

A/N: Just a warning, Jasmine doesn’t have much of a filter, and she has a pretty dirty mouth. If you have a problem with a lot of cussing, just let me know and I’ll start censoring it. Secondly, this chapter has a little violence in it. Not a lot, just a little. Thirdly, I’m going to be making Jazz’s chapters longer than River’s, because a lot has to happen in her Gen so the chapters will be longer. Thanks for reading 🙂

During school the following day, I was having a hard time concentrating. My date with Ash was only a few hours away and it was all I could think about. It didn’t help having him sitting at the table right behind me.

Also, we just happened to be in science class, the only class in the whole school taught by a hot teacher. Mr. Retten was a new teacher this year, and all the girls had a crush on him. He was so cute it was hard to concentrate on anything he said.

He was a good teacher nonetheless, but I just couldn’t focus on what he was saying today. So I just kinda tuned him out and got lost in my own thoughts.

I was still nervous for my date even after Venus gave me a pep-talk last night. she told me everything would go great, and that I had nothing to worry about. But right now not even her reassuring words could shake me of my nerves.

I wish I could ask her what to do now, but unfortunately she was sitting across the room, next to the biggest bitch in the world. Cherry Samuels was the head cheerleader, and my sworn enemy. Her and her little crew were the people who gave me the most crap. She’s the one who came up with my nickname, Mutt. Honestly, before she started giving me shit, I didn’t have a lot of trouble in school. No one really bothered me or called me names. But when her parents decided to stop homeschooling her, she came along and screwed everything up.

I’ve literally never hated anyone as much as I hate Cherry.

After this class was lunch, which I was half anticipating and half dreading. I wanted to hang out with my friends, but I knew that we wouldn’t be able to hang out in peace. Cherry always gave me some kind of crap every day.

So when the bell rang I tried to leave as slowly as possible. I wanted her to get distracted with her boyfriend so maybe she would forget about me.

I held my breath as I walked down the hall. Cherry was already all over Rye, her stupid little jock boyfriend, so I managed to pass by her without a problem.

When I reached my group, Venus and Sage were kissing like they hadn’t seen each other in months. So that left just me and Ash.

“That was a pretty boring class today, wasn’t it?”

“Yea, I was tuned out practically the whole time.” I said, making him chuckle.

“So which park did you wanna go to later?” He asked.

“Whichever one you want, though I’d like it if we didn’t go to Central Park, it’s too open and everyone goes there after school.”

“I figured you’d say that. We could go to the playground, there’s never anyone there on weekdays.” He suggested with a smile.

“Sure, that sounds awesome.”

“Guys, come sit.” Venus called us from her spot on the hallway floor. We spent our lunch breaks in the hallway, the cafeteria was filled with bitchy cheerleaders and dumbass jocks. Not exactly our scene. None of us ate lunch anyway, so hanging out in the hallway was the best option.

Ash and I took a seat on either side of the happy couple.

“Ugh, why does Mr. Retten have to be so boring?” Venus whined. “He’s so cute, he should be a little interesting.”

“I know, how can someone be so cute, yet so monotonous?” I added.

“I have no idea.” Venus and I laughed.

“Hey, you guys know I hate it when you get all girly.” Sage pouted. Venus nudged him with her elbow.

“Don’t be a baby.”

“So V, you’re coming over to my place after school, right?” Sage whispered, just barely audible to me over the lingering chatter in the halls.

“Of course, I always do.” She said, giving him a small peck on the lips.

“You guys are nauseating.” Ash fake gagged.

“Oh come on, if you had a girlfriend you’d be doing the same thing.” Sage teased.

“Actually, I’ve got a date after school. But still, you guys do over-do the PDA.”

“What? You’ve got a date?”

“Yea I do, surprisingly.” Ash said, pretending to be hurt.

“I didn’t mean it like that, Bro. I just had no idea, why didn’t you tell me?”

“I was going to tell you, after the fact. I didn’t want you to make things weird.” Ash laughed.

“Well who is she?”

“Jazz.” Ash said, a huge smile spread across his face as he glanced over at me.

“Really?” Sage looked over at me, and I nodded. “Damn, V did you know about this?”

“Yea, of course.” She smirked.

“Aw, someone actually wants to go on a date with the little Mutt?” Cherry Samuels and her bitchy little sidekick Pepper interrupted our conversation. Ash started to pull himself off the floor, but I stopped him. I could fight my own battles.

“What do you want, Cherry?” I sighed as I stood up. I really didn’t want to deal with her shit today.

“Oh, so you’re gonna give me attitude again today, Mutt?”

“Yea, I am. I’m fucking tired of you being a bitch to me for no reason. What have I ever done to you?”

“You exist, and that bothers me. Mutt’s like you aren’t physically possible. Your parent’s should’ve disposed of you when you were born, it would’ve made our school a lot nicer.”

“Actually this school was a lot nicer until you came along. Your parents should’ve kept on homeschooling you.”

“Shut up you stupid Mutt! This school couldn’t survive without me. I run this place.”

Shut up you stupid Mutt.” I mocked. “Honestly, I’m getting tired of that one. Don’t you have any other things you could say? Or is that all your tiny little brain could come up with?”

“At least I’m not a loser.” She said, making the ‘L’ sign with her fingers to her forehead.

“Oh wow, what a great one. Where’d you get that, first grade?”

“You’re just jealous, you wish you could have pure blood like me. My parents are vampires, my grandparents are vampires, my entire bloodline is all vampires. And what about you? Your bloodline is so inter-species I wouldn’t be surprised if you had some human blood flowing through those pathetic little veins of yours.”

“Do you really think I give a shit about bloodlines? Why don’t you get off your high-horse, because this isn’t the 1800s anymore. No one gives a crap about bloodlines in this era. And besides, aren’t you dating a fairy? Isn’t that out of your bloodline?”

“You leave Rye out of this.”

“Yea, well if you marry him, and have kids, there’s a chance you could have a Mutt. Can you imagine? Little Mutts that look just like you and that idiot! It would be so cute.”

I didn’t have any time to react, she slapped me immediately after the last word left my mouth.

“I TOLD YOU TO LEAVE HIM OUT OF THIS.” She screamed at me. I stared at her, wide-eyed. I was in total shock. I knew she was a bitch, but I never thought she would hit me. “Don’t ever mention him to me again, you stupid little Mutt.” She muttered threateningly. I wanted to punch her so bad, but Mom was the principal and I really didn’t want to get told off by her in front of Cherry.

I clenched my fists. I took a deep breath and tried to swallow my anger. Punching her wasn’t an option.

“See? You shouldn’t say shit like that if you can’t defend yourself.” She and Pepper snickered.

I was about to say something, but then she straight up spit in my face.

I was humiliated. She always did this to me, making me feel like complete shit. That crap I could handle. But her physically attacking me, that wasn’t something I was prepared for. There was nothing I could do about it either. I didn’t want to go crawling to my mom. I had to handle it on my own.

And by handling it, I mean running away from it. Having someone else spit on you in front of your friends and the guy you like is pretty mortifying. I couldn’t stay there for another second. Luckily the bathroom wasn’t far away.

After washing the spit off my face, I curled up in a ball on the floor. I felt like such an idiot. Running away was the worst possible thing I could’ve done. Running was cowardly. It made me look like a fool, and it showed her that her torment did affect me. I knew it was only going to get worse after this.

I heard the door behind me creak open. “Go away.” I muttered into my knee. I didn’t want anyone to see me like this.

“It’s me, Jazz.” Venus’s voice sounded from behind me.

“Oh. Hey.”

“You okay?”

“Would you be okay?”

“No, probably not. She’s a bitch, even though we know her words aren’t true, they still sting.”

“Oh shut up,” I laughed. “This is no time for mushy crap.” I held out my hand to her, and she pulled me off the floor.

“There’s no one around, we can be as mushy as we want.”

“Yea, no thanks.” I said. She stuck her tongue out at me.

“But still, you didn’t deserve that. It’s not like you chose to be mixed”

“I know.” I smiled at her and pulled her into a hug.

“Aren’t I the best cousin?” She laughed into my shoulder.

I shoved her off me lightly. “Yea, whatever helps you sleep at night.”

Venus pulled away from my hug and walked over to the bathroom mirrors. I followed suit, I had to fix my makeup. After all, I still had a date to go on.

“You excited?” Venus asked, as if she knew exactly what I was thinking about.

“More nervous actually. I don’t wanna screw things up.”

“Oh shut it, you’re already friends, there’s not much you can screw up.”

“Let’s hope so.”

School let out fourty-five minutes ago. I was getting tired of waiting. It was obvious Ash had already left school, he might’ve left early or even gone out the back.

Venus and Sage walked by holding hands. She glanced back at me with a confused look on her face. I shrugged and waved her off. I didn’t want to ruin her day because I got stood up.

I sat there and watched my cousin and her boyfriend walk away. She was so lucky, she had a cute boyfriend, she was confident, she always knew exactly what to say, and most importantly, she wasn’t mixed like I was. Maybe that’s why Ash stood me up, maybe he didn’t want to be the guy dating that freaky Mutt girl. I don’t blame him, I wouldn’t want him to deal with the shit I go through every day.

“Jazz?” Ash’s voice broke me away from my thoughts. I immediately felt my face heat up. I felt so silly for assuming the worst.

“Hey Ash.”

“I didn’t think you’d still be here. My last period teacher gave me a detention, I haven’t been going to class enough apparently.” He said with a laugh. “Sorry I kept you waiting.”

“No worries.”

“Alright, to the park then?”

“That was the plan, wasn’t it?” I teased, before jumping off the bench and walking off in the direction of the playground.

When we got to the park, is was completely empty. I was glad, I wanted us to be alone.

“Race you to the swings?” Ash gave me a sly smile, as if he already knew he would win.

It was a tie, Ash and I got to the swings at the exact same time, so unfortunately neither of us got bragging rights.

“So, now what?” I asked. I’ve never been on a date before and I wasn’t really sure how to act on one.

“Well, you could start by telling me a bit about yourself.”

“Not much to tell.”

“Jazz, you’re the only mixed occult in the world, and your father is the current heir to the Fae thrown. You’re pretty much royalty. There has to be a lot to tell.” He laughed.

“Not really.”

“Well what do you want to do when you grow up?”

“I’d like to be a scientist. I’d like to find out why and how I exist.”

“Yea I guess. How about you?”

“I wanna be a teacher. It might sound cheesey, but I just wanna spread knowledge, y’know?”

“Yea, I get you.” It was nice getting to know him, he was a lot sweeter than I thought.

He didn’t say anything for a while. We just kinda sat there, taking in the silence.

“What’re you doing?” I asked, he randomly got off his swing and started walking around to mine.

He still didn’t say anything. Instead, he grabbed the seat of my swing and pulled it back.

“What are you doing?” I asked again.

“Pushing you on the swings, of course.” He chuckled, before letting the seat go.

“You are such a dork.” I giggled embarrassingly as I swung through the air.

“Yea, I know.”

He kept pushing me for a while, the two of us just chatting idly about ourselves. It was really nice, actually. I never thought I’d have a good time just by talking to someone on a swing set.

I was also really grateful he didn’t mention the incident at lunch today. It wasn’t something I wanted to talk about with him.

Eventually my swinging slowed to a stop. I was getting a little motion sick, and the last thing I wanted to do was puke on my date.

“So now what?” I climbed off the swing and turned around to face him.

“How about this?” He swung around and headed straight for the little plastic tower.

I couldn’t help but laugh at his childish-ness. I was glad he was coming out of his shell to me. I was glad that it was me that he was opening up to.

“C’mon Jazz.” He called.

“Huh, not as awesome as I remember.” Ash said once the two of us were sitting in the playhouse.

“They never are.”

“Wanna do something else?” He asked, and I nodded.

“Why don’t we go hang out in the sand, and see who can get the most sand in their shoes without taking them off?” I challenged him. I always loved a good competition.

“You’re so on.”

I slid down the pole first, hoping to get a head start on our silly competition. But before I could run off to the sand, Ash was already sliding in next to me.

“Wait, Jazz hold up.”

“What? Don’t want me to get a head start?” I teased.

“Yea, I thought I could distract you with this.” He smiled at me before pulling me into a kiss.

This was a pretty awesome first date.

Generation 3: Prologue

Growing up I spent a lot of time in the lobby of HQ. My parents were the leaders of F.R.O., an organization whose main goal is to break away from the scientists, and restore our family back into power.

Our organization was important. The scientists let us live normal lives in the Valley, but no one could leave and no one could enter. It was like we were trapped in a bubble. Not a lot of people cared, they had food, shelter, a job and friends. They didn’t want to escape the scientists and become our own leaders. They were cowards, they didn’t want to fight for something important.

I was thankful that my family wasn’t like that. I was glad that we were willing to fight for our freedom.

Speaking of my family, after the twins were born, we didn’t spend as much time at HQ as we used to. My parents had their hands full with them, but that didn’t mean they put F.R.O. on hold. They still took us there once a week even though getting the twins dressed and ready took up the majority of our mornings.

I wasn’t very close with my little sisters. Sure, I helped take care of them whenever my parents asked, but that didn’t mean we were besties. They liked to keep to each other, they had a special bond that I didn’t share with them. I was a little disappointed, it would’ve been nice to be close with them, but if they didn’t want that then I wasn’t going to force it.

The only times we actually played together was at HQ. The only toy there was the block table, our only choices were play with that or be bored. So the three of us would build towers and stuff while we waited for their meetings to end.

I didn’t mind not being close to Iris and Ivy, I never really connected with them like I did with my cousin, Venus. Venus lived across the street from us our whole lives, and she was at our house practically every day. She and I looked more like sisters than my sisters and I did.

Venus was an only child until very recently, when Aunt Fern gave birth to a little boy named Periwinkle. He was adorable, but he bugged the crap out of Venus. She was used to all of her parents attention, and when the new baby came she got angry and started staying at our place more and more. Not that we minded. I loved having her around.

When I got to high school, Venus introduced me to her group of friends. The group consisted of two guys, Venus’s boyfriend Sage Ziegler and his best friend Ash Shorter. The two of them were the best of friends, besides the fact they had complete opposite personalities. Sage was loud and rambunctious. He’d do anything to get a laugh and was pretty attention seeking. Ash on the other hand was quiet, he rarely ever talked to anyone besides Sage.

I was really glad I had my cousin. School was hard for me, I was the only mixed occult in existence so I got teased a lot. I didn’t really care, It just screwed with my ability to make friends. No one wanted to hang out with the Mutt, that’s their affectionate nick-name for me. If it weren’t for Venus, I’d probably be completely alone at school.

The four of us usually hung out after school too. The Moonlight Arcade was our usual hang out spot. It was awesome, it had bowling lanes, a bunch of arcade games, a dance floor, a dj table, and a computer room. It was the perfect place to spend our nights and weekends.

Right now, Venus and I were waiting for the boys to finish their basketball shooting game. They were in a fierce competition, neither of them wanting to lose to the other.

“So when do they usually finish?” I asked Venus. They’d been playing for a while now, and I wanted to start bowling.

“They’ll finish soon. From what I can see, it looks like Ash is winning.” She laughed, leaning back in her chair to get a better look at their scores.

“Who usually wins?”

“Ash. He’s pretty athletic, you can’t tell from looking at him though. He’s pretty scrawny.”

“He’s not that scrawny.” I said, leaning over to get a better look.

“Checking him out, are we?” She giggled, making me blush. I hated blushing.

“No, I was just seeing if he was scrawny or not.”

“Oh come on. He’s cute, you can’t deny that.” She wiggled her eyebrows and laughed again.

“I mean, I guess.”

“You should ask him out.”

“You just want someone to double date with.” I sighed.

“Yea, but I think you guys would make a great couple. He’s pretty chill and you’re a total whack job, I think you’ll balance each other out perfectly.”

“You suck.” I laughed, and kicked her shin under the table.

“But seriously, I barely even know him. He barely ever talks to me. Why would I ask out a guy I barely know?”

“Then get to know him! You guys can bowl together tonight instead of you and me.”

“Alright, fine.” Honestly, I was pretty nervous. I’ve only been bowling a few times, and I wasn’t that great at it. I was afraid I’d make a fool out of myself in front of Ash.

“Hey Babe, wrap it up. You and I are bowling together.” Venus called out to Sage. The boys immediately stopped their game. I had a feeling they were both afraid of Venus. She was pretty demanding, and when she didn’t get what she wanted she got angry. Like throwing things and screaming angry. I bet they’d experienced that before, and didn’t want it to happen again.

“Don’t you usually bowl with Jazz?” He asked. Ever since I started high school, I started going by Jazz instead of Jazzy. Jazzy seemed like such a little girls name, and I didn’t want to feel like a little girl anymore. And besides, Jazz sounds pretty badass.

“I do, but I wanna bowl with you tonight.” She smiled and batted her eyelashes. He shrugged at Ash and walked with Venus over to a lane.

I stood up and took the lane next to them. “Care to join me?” I asked Ash, and he smirked.

“I don’t see why not.”

I confidently strode over and grabbed a bowling ball. I positioned myself and swung my arm back.

When I swung my arm forward again, my fingers got stuck in the bowling ball. The force of my swing sent me flying forward. I hit the ground with a loud thud.

“Smooth.” Ash chuckled.

“Ha-ha.” I scoffed. I could feel my face start to heat up again. What was with all the damn blushing today? “I’d like to see you do better.” I challenged him.

I pulled myself off the ground and took a step back. He approached the ball return and picked up the bowling ball. I watched him take a step back and get ready to swing.

He too got his fingers stuck in the ball, sending him to the floor in a fashion that almost mirrored mine.

“Smooth.” I joked.

“What is up with these balls?” He stood up and dusted himself off.

“That’s what she said.” Sage chimed in from the next lane.

“Dude that doesn’t even make sense.” Ash shook his head with a laugh.

“It’s still funny.”

“Whatever helps you sleep at night, babe.” Venus patted his shoulder lovingly.

The four of us bowled for hours. It was dark out by the time we finished. There were no windows in the bowling room, but we knew it was dark because the black lights only come on when its night time.

“Good game, Jazz.” Ash smiled at me after we finished.

“Yea, after we got over all of that falling.” I joked, making him laugh.

“Hey, so I had a lot of fun tonight.”

“Me too.” I stated.

“So I was wondering if you wanted to hang out again, just the two of us?” He glanced down at the ground nervously.

“Sure, why not.” I tried to keep calm, I didn’t want to seem too eager.

“Cool, so how about tomorrow after school? We can go to the park and just hang for a while, then maybe go to a movie or the diner.”

“Sounds like a plan, I’ll see you then.” We said our goodbyes, it was getting late and all four of us had to be home soon.

I started my walk home alone. Venus and I always walked together, since she lived across the street. Right now she was making out with Sage, and I got bored so I started walking. I knew she’d catch up eventually, she always does.

My thoughts wandered off to my date with Ash tomorrow. I couldn’t wait to talk to Venus about it, I was kinda nervous and she always knew exactly what to say to give me confidence. She also had a boyfriend, so she could give me advice on what to do.

I also couldn’t wait to tell her I didn’t even have to ask him, he asked me. I just wish she’d hurry up with Sage.

“Make sure you’re sisters get to bed in the next hour.” Dad instructed as he went down the stairs. I had just gotten home and I was exhausted.

“Will do.”

“Night Jazzy.” Everyone else switched to Jazz, but I just couldn’t get my dad to shake Jazzy. I eventually gave up, but he was the only one who was allowed to call me Jazzy.

“Night Dad.”

“Where have you been?” Iris demanded as soon as I sat down on my bed.

“Out with friends. Why do you care?”

“What do you guys do?” Iris asked.

“Just hang out. But again, why do you care?”

“Iris wants to know what it’s like to be a teenager. She’s tired of being a little kid.” Ivy said softly from behind Iris, who nodded enthusiastically.

“Venus and I went bowling with the guys.”

“You hang out with boys? Are they cute?” Iris asked excitedly.

“Yes and yea I guess.”

“Do you have a boyfriend?” Ivy asked.

“Not yet, but I’ve got a date tomorrow.” Their eyes almost popped out of their heads. “Sit and I’ll tell you all about it, as long as you promise to go to bed right after.” They glanced at each other and nodded.

They both climbed onto my bed excitedly. I never noticed how interested they were in me. Maybe that’s because I don’t have an older sister. Or maybe I’m just not that interested in anyone else’s life.

“So who is he?” Iris was bouncing up and down excitedly.

“His name is Ash, he’s Venus’s boyfriend’s best friend.”

“What does he look like?” Ivy piped in.

“Well, he’s a vampire. He’s got long, bright red hair and dark red eyes.”

“What about his skin?”

“It’s yellow.” I smiled.

“He sounds cute.” Iris said, and Ivy nodded.

“Yea, he is. And we’re gonna hang out after school tomorrow.”

“Wow. You are so lucky.” Iris looked at me with awe.

“I guess, I bet you’ll get asked out on lots of dates when you’re my age.” I encouraged her.

“What about me?” Ivy asked quietly.

“You too of course, you guys are gonna get lots of dates.” They both smiled excitedly.

“I can’t wait to grow up!”

“I know, but now it’s time for bed.” I ushered the girls off of my bed and into their own.

“Night Iris, Night Ivy.” I said after flicking off the lights.

“Night Jazz.” They said simultaneously. Sometimes they were so in sync it was scary. I guess that’s twins for you.

I went to sleep that night with a huge smile plastered on my face. I couldn’t wait for my date tomorrow.

River Fae Chapter 19: Don’t Be Mad

The months were flying by, and before we knew it Jasmine was one year old. She was growing so fast I felt like if I blinked, I would miss everything and she’d be moving out tomorrow. She was becoming a bit of a handful now that she was getting older, but it was nothing Drea and I couldn’t handle. Just a lot of tantrums, and throwing her teddy bears. We hoped it was just a phase.

Drea was working and I was home with Jazzy as usual. I was trying to get her to start walking, but so far it wasn’t working.

“She’s pretty stubborn.” Drea laughed from behind me, making me jump.

“What’re you doing home so early?”

“It was a half day today, I totally forgot about it.”

“Oh, that’s awesome.” I tried to urge Jazzy towards me but she just plopped right back down on the ground.

“Hey, can we talk outside for a second?” She asked nervously.

“Sure, is everything okay?”

“Yea, everything’s fine.” She answered before walking out of the nursery.

“Hey, babe what’s up?” I closed the balcony door behind me. She looked upset, and I hated it when she was upset.

“River, I wanna ask you something and you gotta promise not to get mad, and it’s totally okay if you say no, I just have to ask.”

“Of course Drea, you can ask me anything.”

“I wanna have another baby. I know we have our hands full with Jazzy, but I want more than one kid and I don’t want them to be too far apart in age.”

“Really? You want another baby? Why would I get mad at you for that?”

“I don’t know, I just thought you’d be upset since Jazzy is being a pain lately and you’d have to watch over her and the new baby during the day.”

“I’m not mad, I’d love to have another baby with you.” I smiled at her. I’ve been wanting another one for a while now, but I wasn’t sure if she wanted one too. She was the one who had to carry it for nine months, so I let her come to me.

She squealed an jumped into my arms. “I can’t wait, I love you River.”

I sat her down on the railing and kissed her. “I love you too.” I scooped her into my arms and said, “Well, we should probably get started on this baby right away.”

“Yea, sounds like a good idea.” She laughed. “Will Jazzy be okay in there alone for a while?”

“Don’t worry, I just put her down for her nap.”

“Oh, good.” She smirked as I carried her into the bedroom.

“Let’s try for a boy this time, okay?” She asked.

“I don’t think we can control that, babe.”

It’s been a few months since River and I started trying for another child. We were getting a little worried, since it was so easy to conceive the first time. So I made a doctors appointment to make sure everything was okay.

“Hey Jazzy, there’s a block table, wanna go play with it.” She nodded at me excitedly and ran off for the toys.

“I’ll keep an eye on her, you go check in.” River grabbed a book from the shelf and took a seat next to the block table.

“Hi, I’m here for my nine-thirty appointment with Doctor Brink.”

“Name please?” The bored looking young nurse asked.

“Hydrangea Fae.”

“Alright, you can take a seat, she’ll be with you in a minute.” She smiled at me.

I took a seat next to River and sighed. “Babe, I’m nervous. What if we can’t have another baby?”

“Hey, don’t think like that. Let’s wait and hear what that doctor has to say before we get ourselves worked up, okay?” He always knew exactly what to say to make me feel better.

“Yea, you’re right. I’m probably just working myself up over nothing.”

“Everything’s gonna be okay, I promise.”

“Mrs. Fae? The doctor will see you now.” I stood up and walked over to the nurse.

“Right this way.” She led me into a hallway and handed me a folded hospital gown. “Here, put this on. She’s going to be doing a full examination.”

When I finished changing into the gown, I took a seat on the examination table. My hands were clammy and shaky, I was extremely nervous. I’ve always been weary of doctors after hearing the horrible stories Basil told me about the doctors who tested him. I know they were human and the doctor I was seeing wasn’t, but still. I couldn’t help but be a little freaked out. There was also the fact that I could be finding out I can’t have any more children, which was terrifying in itself. So yea, I was pretty damn nervous.

“Mrs. Fae? Hi, I’m Dr. Brink. How are you today?” An older vampire with pink hair came into the room.

“Nervous.” I admitted.

“That’s normal.” She told me as she took a seat.

“So, what seems to be the problem?”

“My husband and I are having trouble conceiving. We’ve been trying for months and nothing yet.”

“Do you have any other children?” She asked as she started writing something in the folder on the counter.

“One. She’s about fifteen months.”

“Alright, let’s get this examination started.” She pulled on a pair of rubber gloves and snapped the wrist. I couldn’t help but gulp out of nervousness.

“Well, there’s not much I can tell you today. It’s gonna take at least a week until we get your test results back.” Dr. Brink told me after the examination.

“You can’t tell me anything?” I asked. I was shocked, I was hoping to get some answers today.

“Not yet. But you can come in next week when I get the test results back.”

“Alright. Thanks doctor.” I said, trying to hide my disappointment.

“Of course, Hun. See you next week.” She left the room, leaving me to change back into my clothes.

When I walked back into the waiting room, River immediately shut his book and stood up.

“Hey, how’d it go?”

I threw myself into his arms as soon as I got close enough to him. “We won’t know anything until we get the test results, which won’t be until next week.” I buried my face in his shoulder. I felt like I was about to cry.

“Shh, it’s okay. A week isn’t that long. We’ll have the results before you know it.” He lightly rubbed circles on my back, calming me down slightly.

“I’m so worried. I just want another baby.”

“I know, I do too.” He kissed my cheek. “Let’s try and distract ourselves, okay? How about we invite Fern and Venus over?”

“Yea, okay.”

Fern came over with Venus a few minutes after we got home from the doctors. Drea was upset, and I wanted to distract her. She got along well with my sister, and she was just across the street.

“Hey guys, come on in.” I invited the two of them inside.

“Hey, thank god you called. Venus has been bugging me to come over here since she woke up this morning.” Fern laughed. Little Venus grabbed a strand of my sister’s hair and pulled it lightly, signaling her to take her to her cousin. Venus was shy around me, she never said a word if she knew I was in the room.”Oh, let me take her upstairs real quick.”

Venus was a bit older than Jazzy, but the two were extremely close. Jasmine’s first word was Venus, Drea wasn’t too happy about that.

The two of them looked more like sisters than cousins. Whenever Fern and I took them out together, people would mistake them for sisters. They had a strong bond, and I was extremely grateful. If Drea and I couldn’t have another baby, at least she’d have her cousin.

“So, I hear you guys are having trouble conceiving again?” Fern asked when she sat down in the living room.

“How did you know that? We haven’t told anyone.” Drea was surprised, she often forgot that Fern had multiple sixth-sense abilities.

“I have a gift dear, I know a lot of things I shouldn’t know.”

“Do you know if we’ll be able to conceive again?” She asked hopefully.

“I do.”

“Can you tell me?”

“I could, but what I know isn’t definite. The future isn’t set in stone, and I’m afraid if I give away too much information I could change it.” She explained.

“Eh, it was worth a shot.”

“Don’t worry about it too much, you’ll stress yourself out. Stress can decrease your chances of conception. Maybe you just need a nice spa day, a little relaxation goes a long way.”

“Are you speaking from a sixth-sense point of view or from a friendly point of view?”

“I’m speaking from experience. I was so stressed out when Palm and I were trying to conceive. All it took was a nice couple spa day then bam, we were having a baby.”

“You know, that actually sounds like a great idea. If the test results come back okay next week, then you and I should go to the spa.” She said to me. It didn’t exactly sound like my thing, but I’d be willing to go if it meant another baby.

“Alright, well if that does happen, Fern would you be able to take Jazzy for the night?”

“I’d love too, Venus has been bugging me to have a sleepover with her.”

“You sure you’ll be able to handle the two of them? When they’re together they can be quite a handful.” Drea warned.

“I know, but I’ll deal.”

“Besides Drea, she’s got Palm, his brother, and his parents. I think she’ll be fine.”

“I sure hope so.” Drea said, making us all laugh.
