Lake Fae Chapter 10: Unlikeable

A/N Hey guys, I’m back! I’m doing better now, I’m finally back on a normal schedule and I decided it was time to start writing again. My updates won’t be as frequent as they used to be, but I will be posting as often as I can. Also, drug use and swearing, read with caution if that triggers you. Thank you and enjoy the chapter!

*Four Years Later*

A lot has changed since Lake and I’s falling out. After the night in the club, Thistle and I became and item and we’ve been inseparable ever since. He’s been my rock throughout all the troubles I’ve had with my older brother. He also dropped out of the band right after the first gig, he was not happy with Lake after he punched him. They haven’t really talked since.

Another new thing was that my other older brother, Stone had a boyfriend now. I didn’t even know he liked guys until he brought Thyme home. They make a great pair and I’ve never seen my older brother happier.

Both Stone and I were enrolled at the local community college, he was studying some kind of science something or other and I was studying journalism. My dream was to become a famous reporter.

“Are you sure you guys wouldn’t be more comfortable on the couch?” Thistle asked Stone and Thyme, who were currently watching the television from the floor.

“We’re fine, we have more room to stretch out down here. Thanks though.” Thyme smiled graciously at my boyfriend.

Thistle was about to respond when the front door swung open and slammed loudly against the wall.

“Aye bitches, what’s up?” The new Time Association drummer, Blackberry, shouted as the band entered the house. They’d been spending a lot more time here after Stone moved into the garage and Lake got the room all to himself. Even though they had all the band equipment they could ever need in there, I never heard them practicing at all. I had my suspicions about what they did in there, and from the looks of it it looked like they’d been doing it elsewhere too.

“Really, Lake? Coming home high again?” I could tell he was on something by the unfocused look in his eyes.

“Chill out, don’t be such a mom.” He slurred, making his little crew chuckle.

“Honestly Lake, you gotta stop this.”

“What’re you gonna do? I’m nineteen, I can do whatever the hell I want.” He scoffed, getting ready to walk away.

“You have to stop being a loser sometime, Lake.” I blurted out and immediately regretted it.

“I’m not a loser, Skye. My band is finally getting bigger and what are you doing? Going to school to be some dumbass writer? Do you really need a degree to ask people questions then write it down? You’re such a bitch and I’m so tired of your constant nagging. Leave me alone and mind your own damn business.” He was practically yelling by the time he finished.

“I’m just worried about you, Lake.” We might not be best friends like we used to be, but he was still my brother and I cared about him.

“Ha, yea right.” He laughed sarcastically. “You’re just a control freak who likes to control everything and everyone. Leave me alone.” He scowled at me before turning to his band. He stuck out his hand for Freesia and led them all upstairs to his room.

Even though we did this constantly, each time it felt like my heart was being smashed into tiny pieces. Thistle could tell I was starting to get upset so he immediately stood up and started to comfort me. I was thankful at least he was here for me.

“Shit man, this set up is so sick!” Allium claimed excitedly as he and Blackberry played with my new gaming system.

“Thanks man.” I chuckled, it was nice to have a gaming system in my room. Otherwise I’d have to play in the living-room, which was not ideal.

A lot of things had changed since our first gig. Thistle left the band to be a nerd with Skye, which really sucked for a while but we eventually found Blackberry. He was a few years older than us but he was an awesome drummer so we didn’t mind. Another thing was that Allium and Amaryllis broke up. It happened about a year after the first gig, they broke up when she thought we were getting too deep into drugs.

The drugs we were taking now were more hardcore than before but that didn’t mean we were addicts. We could stop any time we wanted, we just didn’t want to.

“Hey Babe, pass me a hit.” I asked Freesia who was sitting next to the stash.

“Of course.” She smiled at me before grabbing a needle.

A few minutes later I was high again and on top of my girlfriend.

“You are so fucking gorgeous.” I whispered against her lips.

“You guys better not start fucking in front of us, I swear to god I will kick your ass.” Blackberry threatened without even looking away from the television screen.

“Screw you.” Freesia stuck her tongue out at him before pressing her lips into mine.

A few days later I sat in the kitchen, half eating cake and half scrolling through my Instasim feed. I was going to a party at Blackberry and Allium’s place, they’d recently become roommates and they were throwing a housewarming party. It was gonna be epic.

“Uh, hey Lake.” A voice broke me away from my phone. I looked up to see my sister standing in the doorway in a bikini.

“What do you want, Skye?” I asked, probably a bit too harsh. But I didn’t care, she was being such a bitch lately.

“Well, I’m going to the beach with a few friends tonight, would you like to come?” She asked hesitantly.

“What makes you think I wanna hang out with you and your lame ass friends?” I stood up and crossed my arms.

“I-I don’t know, I just wanted to offer. I know you like the beach and I thought you might wanna come.” She looked like she was fighting back tears.

“No, not with you. And besides, it looks like its gonna rain tonight. That’s pretty dangerous and I’m not an idiot.”

“I don’t think it’ll be that dangerous, its supposed to be just a light rain.”

“Doesn’t matter, I’m going to an actual party, one with cool people and beer. I’m gonna have fun with my friends while you guys sit in soggy sand and be miserable. Have fun.”

“Fine, whatever, I just wanted to try and make things right with you. You make it so hard for people to like you.” She sighed, before turning to leave.

“Whatever” I plopped back down in my chair and pulled my phone out again, continuing with what I was doing as if nothing happened.

Another A/N: Hey guys, thanks for reading! I have a little something for you guys, I’ve put all three kids up for download! You can get Stone here, Lake here, and Skye here. Let me know if you download them I’d love to see what you do with them. And if you decide to use them in your stories, please credit me and let me know, I’d love to see! Thank you 🙂

Lake Fae Chapter 9: The Gig

“What the hell is a quadratic equation?” Stone asked, visibly frustrated with the math homework he was currently trying to do. Emphasis on trying.

“Maybe if you actually paid attention in class, you would know.” I half-joked.

“You suck.” He stuck his tongue out at me before looking back down at his notebook. “Ugh, this is pointless.

“Not really Stone, if you wanna be a scientist you gotta know this stuff.” I reminded him.

“Ugh I know.” Frustrated, he ran his fingers through his hair and exhaled loudly. He was about to say something else, but was interrupted when the bedroom door swung open.

“Uh hey.” My other older brother came into the room and my stomach dropped. After our fight I had told him I didn’t want anything to do with him. I was mad at him, I still was but I regretted cutting him out like that. We’d been best friends for our entire lives.

“What do you want?” Stone snapped at him, making Lake wince.

“Uh, well my band has a gig this weekend at the under twenty-one club downtown, and I wanted to invite you guys.” Lake nervously twisted his hands, it was obvious he wanted to try and make things right with us.

“What makes you think we wanna come?” Stone glared at him.

“I-I don’t know, you don’t have to come if you don’t want to. I just wanted you guys to know you’re invited.”

“We don’t wanna go to you’re stupid gig, okay? Leave us alone.” He glared at Lake again before turning his attention back to his homework. Lake looked over at me with a hopeful expression.

I didn’t know what to do. On one hand, I didn’t want to say yes. I really didn’t wanna go to the club and see those people who ruined my brother. Also, I didn’t want to piss Stone off by accepting the invitation. But on the other hand, I wanted to support my other brother. I didn’t hate him and I didn’t plan on keeping him out of my life forever, I just wanted to punish him for the way he treated me.

“I-I don’t know, I might have homework.”

“It’s a Saturday night.”

“I’ll see.” I answered, making his eyes light up.

“Cool.” He said calmly, not letting his excitement show in his voice or expression. But I knew him better than anyone. It was obvious he was excited, he wanted me back in his life and he wanted me at the gig. And honestly, I wanted him back in my life as well. We’d have to see how the night of the gig went.

“I can’t believe you dragged me to this. Why did you even wanna come?” Stone huffed, visibly annoyed in the line for the under twenty-one club.

“Because he’s our brother despite the mistakes he’s made. This is important to him and I wanted to be here for him. Also, it sounded fun.”

“You really wanna be here for him after he picked drugs over you?” He spat angrily. My stomach dropped, the way he said it made me want to cry.

“I, uh, he tried to apologize.” I answered shakily.

“Did you accept?”

“No, but I think he’s suffered long enough. I want to reconcile.”

“I think you’re going too easy on him. He should be disowned for the way he treated us.” He frowned and shifted his weight uncomfortably.

“Well, I think you need to be a little more forgiving, Stone. He’s our brother. He’s gonna make mistakes, we can’t hold this over his head forever.”

“At least try to have fun tonight, okay?” I nudged him and smiled. “You don’t even have to look at the band.”

Tensions were high in the dressing room. We were all pretty nervous, the only people we’d ever played for was Skye and Ama, and now we were about to play in front of a whole club of our peers. It was pretty nerve-wracking.

Well, it was nerve-wracking for all but Freesia. She was completely calm as she adjusted herself in the mirror, her main concern right now was her makeup.

“Do you think my eye makeup looks okay?” She turned to the rest of us with a worried expression.

“It looks fine, Freesia.” I assured her.

“How are you not completely freaking out right now?” Allium asked, the worry very apparent in his tone.

“Dunno, I guess I don’t mind being the center of attention.” Freesia smiled at us.

“You’re not even a little scared?” Thistle asked. I looked over at him and I could see his hands were shaking.

“Nah, we’re gonna do great.” She smiled at us. As soon as she finished adjusting her make-up, the dressing room door cracked open and a woman stuck her head through the opening.

“You guys need to start setting up, they’re gonna start letting people in in five minutes.”

“Thanks, we’ll be out right away.” Freesia answered. The woman nodded and left, and Freesia turned to us excitedly.

“You guys ready to rock?”

“Hey guys, we’re Time Association. You guys ready to rock?” Freesia repeated, this time to the people gathered on the dance floor. They all cheered and we started our set.

My eyes scanned the room as I played the familiar song. I soon landed on two figures out on the floor. My siblings had actually shown up to the gig. My heart swelled, I thought they would never want anything to do with me again. I finally felt like there was hope for us.

I continued to play with a new-found happiness. I hadn’t felt this great in a while.

The crowd that came out to see us wasn’t very large, but they seemed to be enjoying us a lot. Everyone was dancing, there wasn’t a single person sitting down. It was the greatest feeling I’d ever experienced, these people were dancing to our music, these people liked us. I wanted to feel like this for the rest of my life.

And from the looks of it, we might be able to.

After we finished our set, we decided to join the party. They started to play some club music, which obviously wasn’t as great as us but was still fun to dance to. We all gathered in the corner, cooling down before we started to dance. Well, all of us except for Allium and Ama, who were currently glued to each other by the mouth.

“We did awesome!” Thistle exclaimed excitedly.

“I know, I can’t wait until we get to do this again.” I grinned as I laid my chin on Freesia’s shoulder.

“We might be able to play here again soon, I’ll talk to my dad’s friend.” Freesia offered.

“I hope so, I think everyone liked us.”

“Yea, we really did.” A fourth voice chimed in from my left.

I glanced over and saw Skye standing there awkwardly. “Can we talk?”

“Yea, sure.” I smiled, I never thought I’d hear her say those three words again. She grabbed my arm and pulled me away from the group, over towards the bar where we were practically alone except for a random couple making-out.

“You guys are really great.” She said, I could just barely hear her over the loud music.

“Thanks, and thanks for coming tonight. I’m really glad you guys could make it.”

“Me too. I wanted to talk to you, I’m sorry for the things I said, I didn’t really mean it when I said I never wanted to talk to you again.” Skye admitted apologetically.

“I’m sorry too, I shouldn’t have yelled at you like I did.”

“So does this mean we’re cool?” She asked.

“You’re not mad anymore?”

“No, I mean, you are done with them right? You did the band thing, now you’re gonna focus on school. You can’t stay with them and do drugs for the rest of your life.”

“Woah, woah, what? You think I’m done with the band thing? We’re just getting started. This is what I wanna do, Skye, this is my future.” I felt my blood start to boil. How could she think that?

“You wanna do that with them? Why don’t you wait until after school, get your diploma and find some people who won’t overdose in five years.”

“Hey, these are my friend’s we’re talking about here!” I screamed at her, almost loud enough for everyone to hear.

“You’re gonna ruin your life, Lake. You need to take school seriously in case this doesn’t work out.”

“Oh, so you think I can’t make it as a musician?”

“No, I’m saying that you need a back-up plan.”

“Yea, because you think I can’t do it.”

“It’s a hard business, Lake.”

“You know what? Maybe we should just keep not talking. If you aren’t gonna support me I don’t want you in my life. Screw you.” I yelled, I was the angriest I’d ever been in my life. This was my dream, why didn’t she believe in me?

I could faintly hear her crying over the music as I walked towards the dance floor.

I approached Freesia who was dancing with Thistle. With one look at me she could tell I was upset. She immediately moved over to me and started to dance with me instead, grinding on me trying to cheer me up.

It was nice to get lost in the music for a while.

*An hour later*

After an hour of dancing, I was still fuming from the fight. Now I was also tired and sweaty from dancing, I needed a break.

“Hey, I’m gonna go lay down in the dressing room for a while.” I called out to Freesia over the music.

“Are you okay?”

“Yea, just a little tired.” I smiled reassuringly at her before heading towards the room. I couldn’t wait to relax.

But when I got into the dressing room, what I found was the exact opposite of relaxing.

“What the hell?” I screamed as I shut the door behind me. My little sister was making out on the couch, with my band-mate and best friend nonetheless.

They immediately shot up, Skye curling into a ball and Thistle jumping off the couch.

“Hey man, I can explain.” He started, but I stopped him.

“I don’t care, that’s my little sister. Friends don’t make out with each others little sisters.” I glared at him.

“Dude, it just kinda happened. She came in here crying, she didn’t realize I was in here. I started to comfort her and it just kinda happened.” He explained despite the fact that I didn’t care how it happened.

“Why do you even care? We aren’t speaking anymore.” Skye piped up angrily.

“Yea, exactly. I wouldn’t mind if we were speaking. He’s stabbing me in the back by making-out with the person I hate the most, who also happens to be my little sister.” I was fuming, I felt like my blood would burst from my temples.

“Woah, bro that’s a bit harsh.” Thistle tried to take a step towards me, but I was faster.

My fist immediately flew into his jaw with a sickening crack. I didn’t even notice the pain in my knuckles, I was too busy seeing red.

“Screw you both.” I screamed as I made my way out of the dressing room, not even bothering to look back.

I found Freesia on the dance floor and grabbed her hand. “C’mon, let’s get out of here.” I pulled her behind me as I headed for the exit.

“Are you okay?” She worried.

“I just wanna get out of here, okay?” I tried not to get angry with her, I knew none of this was on her. She thankfully understood and didn’t question me further as we left the club.

I just wanted to get high and forget this night ever happened.

Lake Fae Chapter 8: I’m Fine

A/N: I am so sorry this chapter took so long, I was uninspired for a period of time, then my a/c broke preventing me from going in game. If I don’t have the a/c on my computer will overheat. But now it’s fixed and I promise the next chapter won’t take as long. Enjoy 🙂

I woke up that morning feeling uneasy and sick to my stomach. The events that went down between Skye and I had left me shaken, I felt like part of me had been ripped out and I wasn’t whole anymore.

Skye obviously didn’t feel the same, that morning when I arrived at school she was laughing and talking with Stone and his friends. It hurt seeing how fast she replaced me and how fast she’d moved on.

I couldn’t dwell on that though, standing there staring at their group made me look like a total creeper. My friends were on the opposite side of the hall, so I made my way over there to get my mind off my siblings for a while.

“Lake!” Freesia exclaimed as she threw herself into my arms.

“Hey babe.” I smiled softly as I kissed her cheek.

“How’d it go?” She asked without pulling away from our embrace.

“Not great.” I stated simply before letting go of her.

“I’m so sorry, this is all my fault. I ruined everything.” She looked as if she was about to cry.

“No it’s not, I made my own decisions and I made the wrong ones. It’s okay, I’m okay.” I smiled once again before kissed her lightly on the lips.

“Things didn’t go well with Skye?” Ama asked as Freesia and I turned our attention to the rest of the group.

“No, and honestly I just wanna forget about it.” I sighed and nuzzled into Freesia’s neck.

“After school Thistle and I are gonna be in the gym shooting hoops, you’re welcome to join us.” Allium offered.

“Sure, sounds awesome.” It was a perfect excuse to not go home immediately after school.

“Cool.” He grinned at me. Just then, the bell rang for class.

“Ugh, I hate geometry.” Amaryllis complained as we all made our way to class.

“I know, it sucks but we have a huge test today, we can’t skip.” Allium said sympathetically as he pulled his reluctant girlfriend into the classroom.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Freesia whispered to me as we headed to geometry.

“I’m fine.” I whispered back, even though I wasn’t entirely sure I was. I turned to her and faked a smile. “I’m good, I promise.”

“Alright.” She sighed, giving my hand a tight squeeze.

“It freakin’ reeks in here.” Allium scrunched up his nose at the offensive smell of the gym.

“This was your idea, man.” Thistle chuckled, he was starting to come out of his shell a little more, it was a nice change.

“I know, but I don’t think a few air fresheners in here would hurt. This smell is awful.”

“It’s a gym, what do you expect?” I joked, and he shrugged.

“Let’s just play.” He huffed as he ran to grab some basketballs. I turned to Thistle and rolled my eyes, making him chuckle lightly.

“So, is your sister officially out of the band?” Allium asked as we got into position for our game.

“Yea, she won’t even talk to me.” I chuckled.

“That sucks man, I’m sorry.”

“It’s alright, I’ll live.” I assured him as I took a shot.

“Do you think we’ll need to rewrite the songs?” He asked after taking a shot as well.

“I think we’ll have to adjust them a bit. But we’ll just have to see at practice.”

“Our next practice is tomorrow, right?” He ran to grab the balls after they rolled away from the hoop.

“No, I think we’re practicing later tonight. We have a gig this weekend and we need to perfect our sound.” I laughed nervously. Freesia had officially gotten us the gig at the club her dad’s friend owned.

“Uh, Lake, maybe we should go.”  Allium was facing the door to the gym with an uneasy expression on his face.

I glanced back to see what he was looking at and saw my brother coming inside the gym.

“Pass the ball.” I held my arms open as Allium awkwardly threw the ball into them.

“Dude, are you okay?” He asked as he came up next to me.

“I’m fine, I really don’t care if he’s here. Let’s just play.”

Stone walked over to the exercise equipment on the other side of the gym. He didn’t even glance at me once, I wasn’t even sure he knew I was here. He climbed onto the treadmill and started it up. I didn’t even know he liked to exercise.

I shook my head and turned my attention away from my brother. If he was going to ignore me, then I’d ignore him as well.

“So, you excited for the gig this weekend?” I asked Al before taking another shot.

“Yea, I can’t wait.” He hesitated. I gave him a quick smile before running to get my ball back.

After a while we got bored of basketball and Stone’s presence made things slightly uncomfortable, so the five of us made our way over to Freesia’s to practice for our gig this weekend.

We sounded really good despite the loss of Skye. We only had to make a few tweaks to our set to make up for it, it was like her instrument was barely even needed. It made me feel a little upset, like all of my work trying to get her to join the band and get along with them was all for nothing. Part of me had been hoping we couldn’t make the songs work without her, so I’d have an excuse to beg for her forgiveness once again.

“You guys sound amazing.” Ama smiled excitedly after we finished our last song, also breaking me away from my thoughts of Skye.

“You think?” Freesia asked.

“Yea, you guys are gonna do great this weekend.”

“Thanks Ama.” Freesia smiled as she put her guitar back on the stand. “So, who’s up for a little celebrating?” She wiggled her eyebrows as she walked over to the washing machine and pulled her stash box out from behind it.

It only took us minutes before we were all pretty much high. It was pretty much becoming routine for us. Practice for a few hours then sit around and get high. Not that I minded.

“Do you guys think we’re gonna get big?” Thistle asked while taking another puff from his joint.

“I don’t know man, that would be cool as hell though.” Allium replied after pulling away from Ama’s kissing for a second.

“What do you guys wanna do with your lives if this doesn’t take off?” Thistle blew his smoke up towards the ceiling and closed his eyes.

“Well I definitely want to do something that involves music, maybe a music teacher or owning a record store, something cool like that.” I explained. No matter what, I needed music to be some part of my life.

“I wanna be a tattoo artist. I’ve always liked drawing, I think I’d be good at it.” Freesia smiled to herself before continuing. “But if I have kids, I wanna be a stay at home mom. I wanna be there for my kids unlike my parents, y’know?”

“What do your parents do?” I asked.

“They run some stupid company in the next town over. They’re never really home.” She replied sadly, then turned to Thistle and smiled at him. “What about you? What will you do if this doesn’t work out?”

“College first probably, I’d like to study to become a psychiatrist.”

“Cool. What about you guys?” I turned to the couple who hadn’t said much this whole time.

They pulled apart and turned to us. “Well, I’m for sure going to college after high school, probably to study medicine.” Ama told us.

“And I’ll most likely go to the same college to study something or other, not sure yet. All I know is that I wanna be with her.” Allium wrapped an arm around her waist before kissing her on the cheek.

Freesia dropped her joint into the ashtray and climbed into my lap. “Maybe we could go to college together too.”

“That would be cool, maybe we could all go to the same place. Y’know, if the band doesn’t take off.”

“That would be pretty cool.” Thistle added.

“Then it’s settled, if our band flops, we all try and go to the same college.” Freesia smiled.

“Deal.” We all said at the same time, making us laugh. I wasn’t entirely happy with this plan, I was really hoping the band would take off. Making and performing music was what I wanted to do with my life. I didn’t want to go to college and get a degree I’ll never use and end up with a boring desk job.

I was really depending on this band.

Lake Fae Chapter 7: Guilty

*Warning* Slight drug use and half-naked sims. Do not read if that is triggering to you. Thank you.

“They wouldn’t even look at me this morning, Freesia. What the hell am I supposed to do?” I was practically hysterical at my girlfriend’s house next day. I didn’t remember much from the night before, just bits and pieces of the fight I had with my siblings. It wasn’t surprising that they didn’t want to talk to me, I said some awful things from what I remember.

“Give it some time, Babe. Siblings fight, that’s what they do. Let them cool down for a while, then apologize. They can’t stay mad at you forever.”

“I hope you’re right.” I sighed and ran my free hand through my hair.

“Of course I’m right. About Skye at least. You guys are closer than any siblings I’ve ever met, she wouldn’t throw that all away just because you said some shitty things when you were high.” She smiled at me as she adjusted her position on the couch.

“That’s the thing though, what if she doesn’t want to talk to me anymore because I used drugs? Or well, use drugs.” I half-laughed as I took a puff from the joint Freesia and I were sharing.

“Well you’re done with pills right?” She asked. I nodded. Those screwed me up too much. “So, she doesn’t have to know about the weed. This shit isn’t anything like the pills. She should be able to forgive you for using once.”

“Yea. Let’s change the subject, I just wanna forget about them for a while.”

“Of course.” She giggled and grabbed the joint from my fingers. She laid it in the ash tray and slowly pushed me down against the couch and crawled on top of me.

“I know just how to distract you.” She whispered seductively.

“You know me too well.” I smirked at her as she brought her lips down onto mine.

Freesia and I made out on the couch for almost an hour before she pulled back and looked down at me.

“No one’s home. We could go upstairs to my room if you’d like.” She smiled down at me mischievously.

“A-are you sure?” I asked nervously.

“Very sure. Are you ready?” She asked carefully. I nodded, I knew I was nervous and if I answered vocally my voice would waver. I didn’t want her to know I was scared.

“Was I any good?” I chuckled nervously later that night.

“Mhmm.” She smiled softly, keeping her eyes closed.

“You ok?”

“Just tired I guess.” She sighed as she snuggled closer to me.

“Are you sure, babe? You seem like somethings bothering you.” I gently intertwined my fingers with hers.

“I guess I just feel guilty.” She sighed, avoiding my eyes as she played with her hair.

“About what we just did?” I sat up quickly, if she was uncomfortable or hurt I would never be able to live with myself, not that I was already happy with the person I was becoming, but still.

“No, of course not. That was my idea. I’m talking about your sister. I feel like its my fault you guys are fighting.” She sighed and pulled her knee to her chest.

“Hey, it’s not your fault. It was my decision to take the drugs. I was the one who yelled at them, not you. It’s not your fault at all. I promise.”

“But still, I feel bad. It’s obvious that Skye and I don’t get along well, and I feel like that influenced you to yell at her.” Freesia looked distraught. I felt awful, this fight was ruining every relationship I currently had. I needed to fix this.

“Tell you what, I’ll go home right now and talk to them. I’ll try and fix this.” I smiled and grabbed her hand.

“Do you want to though? I don’t want you to feel like you have to for my sake.”

“I do, I need too. I screwed up, I need to fix this.” I kissed the back of her hand. “Now c’mon, let’s get dressed.

“You gonna be okay?” She asked as she walked me to the door.

“I’ll be fine, I need to own up to what I did.” I grabbed her hands in mine and smiled at her. “Thank you for distracting me, I needed some distance to really figure out what to do.”

“No problem. I’m just glad you’re gonna fix this. I’d hate to be the girl who ruined the best sibling relationship in the history of ever.”

“Don’t worry, we’ll be back to normal in no time.” I promised, even though I wasn’t sure if they would forgive me.

“I love you, Freesia.” I blurted out before I could stop myself. She looked stunned, if this were a cartoon her jaw would be on the floor.

“You, love me?”

“I love you too!” She exclaimed excitedly before jumping into my arms to kiss me.

“Good,” I said after she pulled away from this kiss. “I thought I was about to make things really awkward.”

“Well you got pretty lucky, let’s hope that luck continues.”

“Yea. Night babe.” I said, before giving her one last kiss and heading out the door.

I left her house feeling a lot better than I had all day. The fight I had with Stone and Skye was still in the front of my mind, but now I felt like I actually had a chance to fix things. Thanks to Freesia, I felt like there was hope I hadn’t screwed this all up yet.

It didn’t take me long to walk home. When I got there, all the lights were off downstairs, just like last time. I hoped my siblings would still be awake, I really wanted to speak to them that night. But when I went into the bedroom Stone and I share, he was already sound asleep.

It was a little disappointing, I was all pumped from talking to Freesia and I wasn’t sure if that feeling would last until morning. I hoped at least Skye was still awake.

“Hey.” I said quietly as I entered my sister’s room. All the lights were still on and she was sitting at her drawing board. She didn’t say anything, just like how she’d been ignoring me this morning. “Please talk to me, I’m sorry.”

“Sorry?” She swung around in her chair and glared at me. “You picked your loser druggie band-mates over me, you came home high and you screamed at me and Stone. Sorry isn’t going to cut it.”

“Skye, I-I’m sorry. I don’t know what to say.” I looked down at the ground, avoiding her eyes. This was a lot harder than I thought it would be.

“Where were you today?”

“Where did you go?” She narrowed her eyes at me.

“Freesia’s house.” I whispered, knowing that would piss her off.

“So you choose them over us, again?” She laughed, reminding me of a villain from a movie.

“You guys wouldn’t speak to me! I needed someone to talk to, what else was I supposed to do?”

“Um, I don’t know, maybe actually try to apologize?” She glared again. “You know what? If you’re just gonna keep choosing her over us, then maybe we shouldn’t talk anymore.”

“What?” I asked as I felt my chest tighten. She didn’t want to talk to me anymore?

“Let’s just keep our distance. I’ll make my own friends and you can have the stoners. We can be civil for now and after graduation we never have to see each other again.”

“B-but that’s not what I want, you mean the world to me Skye.”

“Obviously I don’t, you’ve proved that plenty of times.”

“After everything I’ve done for you? I’ve been there for you throughout almost every single one of your anxiety attacks. I’m the only one who can properly calm you down. And you want to throw that all away because I got high once?”

“Maybe you were the reason I had anxiety.” She scoffed coldly. I was shocked, I couldn’t believe she’d actually said that to me.

“Well fine, if that’s really what you want, we don’t have to speak anymore.” As I said it I felt my heart break. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Skye and I not talking. I always imagined us living across the street from each other with our families, our kids would be best friends and so would our spouses. We’d all grow old together and live in the same retirement home. I never thought this would happen.

I couldn’t stay in there anymore, I didn’t even give her a chance to respond before I rushed out of the room and collapsed against the wall of the hallway. I felt like my entire world was crashing down. Skye had been my best friend since she was born. My entire life I always felt like I needed to protect her from harm, but now I knew that I was the most harmful thing in her life.

But the worst part to me was the fact that Skye didn’t even seem to care that we weren’t best friends anymore. She decided to drop me without even letting me try and fight for her, maybe she didn’t even wanna be my friend in the first place.

It was like she didn’t even care about me at all.

Lake Fae Chapter 6: Please Stop Fighting

*Warning* Yelling and swearing in this chapter, don’t read if that kind of stuff upsets you. Thank you and enjoy 🙂

“Dad?” I asked quietly as I careful ascended the stairs into the attic. I was nervous, I’d only been up here once with Lake, but my dad still didn’t know that happened. We weren’t allowed up here and we weren’t supposed to bother him when he was here. But I felt like this would be an exception, this was kind of an emergency.

My older brother and our band mates were all at Freesia’s house, and they were all doing illegal drugs. Freesia and I were never that close. I didn’t really like her from the beginning, but I knew my brother had a crush on her so I tried my best to get along with her. However, getting me and my brother into drugs wasn’t worth his relationship.

“Hey, Dad?” I said, a little louder this time. His head was down on the bar and I wasn’t sure if he was even conscious. There were beer bottles on the counter next to him as well as on the floor. It was weird to see him like this. Yea, I knew my dad got drunk almost every night, but I’d never actually seen it for myself. I just heard my brothers complain about it. They were tired of him not being there for us, for spending more and more time with the bottle.

I was about to call out to him once more when he started to stir. “Dad?” I asked quietly as he pulled himself into a sitting position at the bar. Immediately his back stiffened at the sound of my voice.

“Skye?” He asked, his voice low and cold.

“Yes Dad, it’s me. I need to talk to you.”

He jumped up way too fast for a drunk man. He sent the bar stool flying, that’s how quickly he stood.

“I told you and your brothers, you aren’t allowed up here!” He yelled. I’ve never seen my father so angry. I’ve never really seen him express any emotion other than sadness, that is. Dad getting angry at me was something I’d never experienced.

“I-I’m sorry Daddy.” I stuttered. “I-it’s just Lake’s friends brought out drugs tonight, and I-” I started, before he interrupted.

“I told you to never come up here.”

“I-I’m sorry, but this is important.”

“Look, I don’t have time for this petty shit, okay? If you’re mad at your brother for choosing weed over you, that’s your problem. Don’t be a snitch and leave me out of it.” He growled, then hiccuped. He was obviously still drunk, but his words hurt.

“I’m sorry Daddy.” I whispered, barely choking my words out from behind my tears.

“Just go, I’ll deal with your brother later.”

I quickly spun on my heel and climbed down the stairs. My first instinct was to go to Lake, he was always the person I ran to when I was upset. But he wasn’t an option now. My only friends were all with him, and I didn’t really consider them my friends after tonight. That really only left me with one option.

My night with the band was pretty insane. We were all really drunk and really high, I’ve never had so much fun in my life. There was one incident where Thistle vomited on my shirt, but Freesia promised she would clean it and give it back to me the next time we saw each other.

When I snuck back into the house, it was completely quiet. All the lights were out and there wasn’t anyone on the bottom floor. I figured everyone was asleep and I got off scot-free.

But boy, was I wrong.

I made my way up to the bedroom to find my brother sitting there, waiting for me.

“Where were you?” He asked, like a worried parent from television.

“I was out, why do you care?” I crossed my arms defensively.

“Well I don’t, but you obviously upset her.” Stone gestured to his bed, where Skye’s head was buried in the pillow and it was obvious she was crying. I hadn’t even realized she was in the room.

“Okay.” I started walking across the room to crawl into bed. It didn’t even matter that I was fully dressed, I was still a little buzzed and I wanted to sleep it off.

“What the hell is wrong with you? You chose those losers over your sister, your best friend practically since you were born?” Stone jumped up from the chair and got up in my face.

“She was being a baby, she freaked out over weed and beer, then threatened to tattle on me. She was being really lame.” I tried to justify my actions, even though I knew I has been a dick. Why did I do it? Why did I choose them over her?

“You are such an asshole, Lake. She has every right to freak out, that shit is illegal. You should’ve done the same thing.”

“Sorry, but I’m not a fucking loser like you guys. I actually have friends, and a girlfriend. Maybe if you guys weren’t so stuck up you’d have friends too.” I yelled. I knew I was being a complete jerk, but I couldn’t stop the things coming out of my mouth. Was this the drugs talking?

Stone balled his fists and placed them on his hips. “I do have friends, actually. There’s no need for you to be such an ass.”

“Aw, it’s so cute that you’re so defensive.” I mocked, I couldn’t stop myself. “What, don’t want to look like a loser in front of your little brother? Newsflash, you’ve always looked like a loser to me.”

“Screw you, Lake! At least I’ll be able to get into college, unlike you who’s gonna ruin his life over drugs and a stupid girl.”

“First of all, I took some pills once. It’s not like I’m gonna get addicted. Two, she’s not a stupid girl, she’s my girlfriend so have a little respect, dickbag. Third, I could get into any college I want based on my piano skills alone, not even including my abilities with other instruments. Finally, what are you gonna get into college for? Chess? Tinkering with scraps of metal? How fucking special.” I knew I would regret these words when I sobered up.

“P-please s-stop fighting.” Skye’s voice spoke up before Stone had a chance to retaliate. “I’m sorry I said anything.”

And just like that, I snapped. “You should be sorry! You embarrassed me in front of all my friends, left the band I worked so hard to include you in, and now you’ve caused everyone in this house to hate each other. Maybe if you weren’t such a dork this wouldn’t have happened.”

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry, okay? I screwed up, I regret it, and I wish I could go back in time. I’m sorry.” She buried her face in her hands and continued to cry.

“Yea, I wish we could too.”

Skye threw herself off Stone’s bed and ran out of the room, still crying. I crossed my arms, there was still a lot I wanted to say to her. I shrugged, there wasn’t anything I could do tonight.

“You’re so selfish, Lake. I can’t believe you.” Stone crossed his arms and glared at me.

“You think I give a shit what you think?” I turned away from him while I changed into my pajamas.

“Good luck trying to fix this.” He mumbled. His words sobered me up pretty quick. I pretty much just ruined the relationship I had with my sister, and for what? One high? Was I really that selfish?

He was right, I was gonna need a lot of luck to fix this one.

Lake Fae Chapter 5: Flying High

*Warning* Drug use in this chapter, don’t read if that triggers you. Thank you 🙂

“Hey Stone, got a minute?” I cautiously approached my eldest brother. He was busy with his inventing bench, as he had been for the past few years. It was almost impossible for any of us to pry him away from it.

“I’m a little busy.” He muttered under his breath.

“I-I know. I just wanted to talk.” I admitted.

“Then why don’t you go try Lake?” He continued to work away on whatever it was that he was making.

“This isn’t really something I can talk to him about.”

“What? You guys are like constantly talking, what could he possibly not know about you?” He laughed sarcastically behind the clanking of the metal. I knew he was jealous of the bond between Lake and I.

“This isn’t really about me though.”

“Then who is it about?”

“I wanted to know more, about Mom.” I hesitated slightly, nervous about his reaction.

He dropped his tools on the bench and completely stopped. Stone stayed silent for what felt like hours. I was about to leave the garage and tell him to forget about it, I didn’t want to upset him even more than I already had.

“I figured you’d wonder about her one day.” He looked over at me and smiled sadly. “What do you already know about her?”

“Not much, just what she looks like and that she’s not here.”

“Sit.” He gestured to the tool cabinet next to me.

Stone moved whatever he was working on onto the shelf attached the the bench. He pulled himself up onto the now clear surface and turned towards me.

“I was really young when she left, but I still remember her. We all lived in this little cabin on the beach, its was always just us, we never had any visitors there. She spent a lot of time with us, we were her whole world. She was an amazing mother, she was always there for us and she worried about us constantly.”

He paused for a moment to take a deep, shaky breath. “But mom wasn’t like the rest of us. She was a vampire fairy, she had glowing eyes and wings. People were afraid of her. They were looking for her, they wanted to keep her in custody. That’s why we lived in that cabin, no one could find us there.”

He took another deep breath and allowed my to process everything he just told me. A hybrid? A fugitive? This was not what I was expecting, at all.

“I’m pretty sure we were all born there. She didn’t leave the cabin for at least five years. They tried to lure her out with messages on the TV, but they never worked. I remember watching them with Mom and Dad, and I remember their discussions about what they would do. I know they were looking for Dad too, but they eventually stopped. I don’t really know why though.”

“But finally, they aired a message saying they would free all supernaturals from the experiments if she turned herself in. She was a selfless person, so of course she took the deal. So she left, and everyone was set free.”

I sat there, my jaw hanging open. We were learning about the experiments in history class. We were still in the early stages, we hadn’t learned about this yet, if even was in the books.

“Is this in the history books?” I had to know or else it would drive me insane.

“Yea, it is actually.” He chuckled softly. “It’s pretty weird to learn about your family in school. Especially the royal side.”

“The royal side?” I asked, curious.

“Don’t you remember the lesson on the royal family? Before the humans discovered us?”

“Of course.”

“They were our ancestors.”

“Wow, we certainly have a colorful history.” I laughed.

“We sure do.”

It wasn’t until a few days after Freesia initially told me her idea for a band name that we told the rest of the group. We also told them that we were together now, which didn’t surprise any of them in the slightest.

Now, we were all sitting in Freesia’s garage after our first practice with our official band name. She said we were going to celebrate, I wasn’t entirely sure what she meant by that.

“I’m so glad we finally have a name.” Allium chuckled as he caressed Ama’s face. “It finally feels like we’re a real band.”

“Yea, it does.” I agreed. “Now we can start playing real gigs.”

“Speaking of gigs, my dad knows a guy who owns a club downtown. He said he wants us to play there in a few weeks.” Freesia chimed in with a smile.

“Seriously? That’s awesome!” Skye grinned, and we all cheered. We were gonna play a real gig!

“Well now I think it’s time to celebrate.”

She climbed off the floor and walked over the washing machines in the corner. She reached behind the dryer and pulled out a small box before leaving the garage. Freesia came back seconds later, dragging a small table with her. She placed it in the middle of the room before leaving once more. When she came back, she had six bottles in her hands. She set them down next to the table, grabbed the box and set that down on top of the table.

She slowly opened the box and started to pull of the contents. It was full of weed and a bottle of pills.

“Help yourselves.” Freesia grinned, gesturing to the drugs and alcohol in the middle of us.

“Are you sure Freesia? You never share your stash.” Ama asked hesitantly.

“It’s a special occasion, I’m willing to share.”

“Are you serious?” My sister jumped up from her spot on the garage floor.

“What?” Freesia asked innocently, as if she didn’t have a huge stash of illegal drugs and alcohol only inches from her.

“What? Are you serious? This is illegal.”  She scoffed.

“Only if we get caught.” Freesia giggled.

“C’mon Skye, loosen up.” Amaryllis tried to persuade her.

“No, we’re leaving. C’mon Lake.” She started to head for the door, but when I didn’t stand she turned around to face me.

“Lake, aren’t you coming?” She asked expectantly. I couldn’t believe how lame she was being right now. We finally had friends, we were in an awesome band and we actually had a real gig lined up. Now she wanted to throw that all away over some pot and pills? She was making this into a much bigger deal than it actually was.

“Nah, I’m gonna stay. You sure you wanna leave?” I tried to stay as calm as I could, I didn’t want to get angry at her for trying to ruin this for me.

“Yes. I’m going home, and I’m telling dad.” She honestly sounded like a child, threatening to go home and tell on me.

“Fine, go ahead. But since when has he ever given a shit about us? Do you ever see him sitting down for dinner with us, or asking us how our day went? No, all he does is drink in the attic or drink at the bar. So go ahead, tell him. Ask him if he’d like to join us.” I was beyond trying to not piss her off. She embarrassed me, now it was my turn to do the same to her.

“Screw you.” I could see the tears welling up in her eyes as she clenched her fists. Part of me felt a little bad for upsetting her, but I didn’t want to give in now. “I’m out of the band.” She growled before heading out the door.

“Good.” I muttered under my breath.

“Well, that was awkward.” Allium joked, making the rest of us chuckle.

“Yea, now let’s get started.” Freesia reached across the table and grabbed a couple buds and some rolling paper.

I hesitated. Even though I fought with my sister to stay here, I was a bit apprehensive about drugs. I’d never done any before, and I wasn’t really sure how to do it. Everyone else was already grabbing at the weed or the pills, and if I didn’t grab something soon I’d look really stupid. Eventually I decided on the pills, since I knew exactly how to take those and I wouldn’t smell when I got home.

It wasn’t long before everyone was high. Ama and Allium were trying to play Foosball, but they were laughing too hard to actually achieve anything. Thistle was still sitting in the same place he had been all night, while Freesia and I laid on the ground next to the couch.

“Holy crap, this is really fun.” I laughed from the floor.

“I know right? Your sister is really missing out. It might do her some good to loosen up.” Thistle chuckled. I sat up and looked at him. This was the first time I’d heard him say more than three words at once.

“Yea, she’s pretty stuck up.” I sighed as I laid back down on the floor. I loved my sister, but she could really be a killjoy.

Lake Fae Chapter 4: I’m in the Band

“A band? Really Lake?” Skye rolled her eyes at me after I explained Freesia’s idea. We were sitting on her bedroom floor, we’d just finished our homework and were about to go to bed. I had figured that now would be the best time to bring it up.

“Yes really, don’t you think it’ll be cool?”

“I don’t know, they don’t really seem to like me.” She looked down at the carpet and started to fiddle with the edge.

“If they didn’t like you, why would they want you to be in the band?” I stretched the truth a little bit, but still, if Freesia didn’t like her she wouldn’t let her be in the band.

“I-I don’t know. But how am I gonna fit into the band? I play bass, those aren’t usually in bands.”

“We can make it work. At least give it a shot, if you don’t like it you can leave.” I offered, I really wanted her to be in the band, but if she wasn’t having fun I wouldn’t force it.

“Fine, I guess I’ll give it a shot.” She rolled her eyes but had a smile plastered on her face.

“Thanks Skye.”

“So now that that’s out of the way, what was up at lunch today?” I asked her.

“What do you mean?”

“You know what I mean, the blushing and the tensing up, what was that?” I was concerned, but also a little curious.

“Oh, um, I don’t know.” She started blushing again.

“C’mon Skye, you can trust me.”

“Hey, it’s pretty late, we should go to bed.” She stated suddenly. I turned around and glanced at her clock. It was almost eleven and we had school tomorrrow.

“Fine, but this isn’t over.” I warned as I pulled myself off the floor.

The next day the six of us met in the hallway outside of our math class. “So, you in Skye?” Freesia leaned over to look at my sister.

“Yea, sure.” She smiled.

“Are you guys in?” I looked at the three others in the group.

“He’s in, but I don’t have any musical talent. I’ll be you’re first fan.” Amaryllis giggled as Allium attacked her cheek with kisses.

“Gross, guys.” Freesia whined, making the rest of us laugh.

“How about you Thistle? Are you in?” I asked the quiet red-head who once again, hadn’t said a word.

“Sure.” He smirked slightly. His one-word answers made me curious, why didn’t he talk as much as the rest of them? Did he even like us?

“So where are we gonna practice?” Allium asked, his arms still tightly wound around Amaryllis.

“My house, my garage has some equipment we can use. We can go after school today if you’d like.” Freesia offered.

“Then it’s settled, first band practice at Freesia’s after school today.” Allium said cheerfully right as the bell rang, signalling that we needed to get to class.

“You’re house is huge!” I exclaimed as the six of us reached Freesia’s house. It was three stories with a three car garage and a barn. It had to be one of the biggest houses in town.

“Yea, I guess.” She shrugged. “C’mon, let me show you the garage.”

“And here it is” Freesia waved her arms out as we looked around the room.

“Oh my god, this is perfect.” Allium said in awe.

The garage had everything we’d need. She had a drum set, two different guitars, a bass, and a keyboard. There were two couches surrounding the instruments, perfect for people to sit and watch us play. She also had a Foosball table, an arcade game and a stereo that we could use during breaks.

“Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s get started!” Freesia exclaimed as she ran over to the electric guitar.

We each made our way over to our respective instruments. “What should we play?” I asked, I had just realized we hadn’t even thought about music yet.

“Let’s just jam for a bit, try and find our sound.” Freesia suggested, and that’s just what we did.

*A few weeks later*

Freesia’s house was where the six of us spent most of our time. Her parents were never there, I don’t think any of us have even met them. But we didn’t care, we were having fun. She had a huge pool, complete with a diving board, a waterfall and a water slide. We often took time off from the band to hang out and go swimming.

Speaking of the band, over those few weeks we really started to improve as a group. We were writing our own music now, we were even able to include the bass in all our songs. Skye was really happy about that, she was really happy with the band thing in general. It was awesome for the both of us, not only did we have friends, we had a way to share our music with people.

Over those few weeks, Freesia and I grew a lot closer. We had one of those friendships where we were constantly flirting with each other, but never actually got together. Well, not yet anyway. I think we were both hoping to become an item, it was just a matter of who would make the first move.

“So, any name ideas yet?” Freesia asked while we sat near the pool. We couldn’t come up with band name and it was driving us all crazy. Naming a band shouldn’t be this hard right?

“Nope, none. Do you have any ideas?” I asked her.

“I do actually, I wanted to get your opinion on it first before I share it with the rest of the band.” She grinned.

“Oh? What is it?”

“How does ‘Time Association’ sound?”

“That sounds perfect” I beamed. Time Association was a perfect name for the group.

“You think so?”

“Yea of course. We should go tell them your idea.” I started to get off the bench but she stopped me.

“Later, during practice.” She ran her fingers through her hair and glanced up at me. “I’d rather stay here and sit with you.”

I blushed. I hated it when I blushed, but I couldn’t help it. “I uh, me too. Yea. Me too.”

“Nervous?” She asked as she got up from her chair and sat down next to me.

“N-no, not really.” I lied, I didn’t want to look even more stupid in front of her.

“It’s alright, no need to be nervous, you know I like you too.” She scooted even closer before putting a hand on my thigh.

“You do?”

“Yea, of course. I don’t let just anyone into my circle of friends.”

“Well I’m glad I made the cut.” I joked, making her giggle. Then, she scooted so close to me her butt was touching my thigh. I wasn’t sure what to do next, so I kinda freaked and jumped off the bench. “Hey, maybe we should go in the pool.”

“Yea, in a minute.” She stood up too and grabbed my hand. “What are you so nervous about?”

“I’m not that great with girls.” I admitted.

“Then I guess I’ll have to be the one who makes the first move.” She grinned seductively before grabbing my facing in her hands and pulling my lips to hers. I wasn’t sure how to react at first, but after a few seconds I started to kiss her back.

“Now let’s go swimming.”  She chuckled, grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the pool. I was still kinda dazed, did she really just kiss me?
