Thorn Fae Chapter 6: Riches to Rags

Screenshot-8273

Somehow, I managed to sneak my way onto a subway. I had no idea where it was taking me but I knew I had to get as far away as possible.

When I got to the subway station, I was in a bright, sunny place. It didn’t look anything like the gloomy, foggy Moonlight Falls.

Screenshot-8276

I took a seat outside on the bench outside the station. My feet hurt, I was tired as hell and I hadn’t eaten since the day before. For a split second, I felt like breaking down. My entire life had been uprooted in one night, I was technically homeless now, and I had no plan whatsoever.

But I didn’t break down. I know that Nutmeg would want me to be strong, she’d want me to get through this.

Screenshot-8278

So I picked myself up off that bench and started walking. The only way I would get somewhere is if I started going.

—————

*A few hours later*

Screenshot-8280

It took me a while, but I finally made it into town. I found a park in the middle of everything, so I decided to stop there and rest.

Screenshot-8281

I saw a swing-set and decided to rest there. Hawk and I spent hours on our swing-set when we were young, and maybe sitting on it would help me feel a little better.

Screenshot-8285

As I sat down, I noticed someone around my age making their way over to me. Immediately I got nervous, I was in an entirely new place and I didn’t exactly have great social skills.

Screenshot-8290

“Hey, you look a little lost. Are you alright?” They said as they took the swing next to me.

“A little. I’m not from around here.” I admitted.

“Well I’ve lived here my whole life, I’ll be glad to show you around. I’m Pepper, by the way.”

“I’m Thorn.”

Screenshot-8293

“You look really familiar.” Pepper said, squinting slightly. “Are you…?”

“The ‘princess’?” I asked, using air quotes. Pepper nodded. “Yea I guess. But I prefer just being a regular guy.”

“So you’re trans?” I nodded. “Cool, I am too.”

Screenshot-8289

“Woah, really?” I was amazed, I’d never met another transgender person before.

“Yea. Is that why you’re here?” He asked.

“Sorta. Lots of shit went down at home. I had to get out.”

“I understand. I don’t live at home anymore either. My parents kicked me out, they didn’t want a ‘queer’ kid.”

“Where do you live?” I asked, hoping I wasn’t being rude.

“Do you have a place to stay tonight?” He ignored my question and I shook my head. “Then I’ll show you where I live, and you can stay there too.”

Screenshot-8296

“Really? You don’t even know me.”

“I know, but I know how hard it is. You shouldn’t be alone out here. Especially considering who you are. I bet people are looking for you.”

“Yea, probably.” I muttered, suddenly extremely aware of how out in the open I was.

“C’mon, let’s go. Just keep in mind that it’s not a castle.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll just be happy to have somewhere to sleep.” I smiled at him.

“That I can do for you. Also, I’ll get you some different clothes, and a pair of shoes.” He said, looking down at my bare feet.

“Thank you.”

——————

Screenshot-8300

“I’m sorry it’s so junkyardish. This is the bad part of town, but it’s the only park that doesn’t kick out homeless people. They also have bathrooms and showers, so that’s pretty nice.” He explained as we arrived.

“This is the last place anyone would ever look for me. It’s perfect.”

“Awesome. I have a couple friends that live here too, I’ll introduce you.” He offered and I followed him as he led me towards them.

Screenshot-8303

He brought me behind the building, to where a little camp was set up. Two teenagers around our age were sitting and talking.

“Hey guys, this is Thorn. He’s trans and he doesn’t have anywhere to stay, so I invited him to stay with us.”

Screenshot-8305

“Hi Thorn.” The girl with red hair smiled shyly.

“That’s Rose, she’s trans too. She’s also really shy.” Pepper explained.

Screenshot-8306

“Hey, I’m Jean. I’m not trans but I’m super gay. Got kicked out a few months ago when my parents caught me with a girl.” Jean explained.

“Hi guys, nice to meet you.” I smiled.

Screenshot-8304

“Well, I’m gonna help Thorn clean up, Jean can you find an extra sleeping bag for him?” Pepper asked.

“Of course.” Jean pulled herself off the ground and walked over to the boxes behind Pepper and I.

“I’ll show you the shower, then I’ll find you some clothes.” Pepper explained as he led me towards the bathrooms.

—————

Screenshot-8307

“How do they fit?” Pepper asked, as I was in the stall changing into the clothes he brought for me.

“Great. Thanks.”

Screenshot-8308

“How do I look?” I asked with a smirk.

“Like a different person. The beanie really helps, you’re hair is pretty unique.”

“Good.”

Screenshot-8310

After we finished in there, we went outside to join the other two. They had gotten out an extra sleeping bag for me, which I was very grateful for.

“Thank you guys for being so welcoming. I’ve never had this many friends before.”

“Of course, we gotta help our own. Us LGBT kids gotta stick together.” Jean replied.

“LGBT?” I asked, I’d never heard the term before.

“It means Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender.” Pepper explained.

Screenshot-8316

“So, you’re trans but you’ve never heard that term before?” Jean asked.

“Yea, I grew up really sheltered. I knew I was trans before I even knew the word for it. The only reason I knew the word was because of my nanny.” I said, clenching my fists at the reminder of Nutmeg.

“Nanny? Geez, you must have an interesting story.”

Screenshot-8311

“I guess you could say that.” I chuckled.

“So, let’s hear it.” Pepper prompted. So I told them. Everything, from realizing I was trans, to Hawk falling in love with me, to the events of last night.

“Woah. That is one hell of a story.” Jean shook her head. “I’m sorry you had to go through that.”

“Thanks, but I think it can only go up from here. I’m out of that place, I’m free.”

“That’s very true.” Pepper smiled. “I’m glad you have a positive attitude, this can be hard without one.”

Screenshot-8314

“What’s your story, Rose?” I asked, she had barely said a word since I got here. Pepper wasn’t lying about her being shy.

“Basically, my dad came home early one night and found me in a dress and makeup. He beat the shit out of me and kicked me out. My mom’s dead so I didn’t really have anywhere to go. Luckily I knew Pepper from school and he and I came here.”

“I’m sorry, that’s rough.”

“Thanks.”

—————

Screenshot-8322

When it started to get a little darker, they built a fire and started to roast marshmellows.

“Sorry we don’t have anything substantial, it’s hard to keep food out here.” Jean apologized.

“Oh I don’t mind, marshmallows are my favorite.” I grabbed a stick and a marshmallow and held it over the fire.

Screenshot-8325

“So Thorn, what do you do for fun?” Pepper asked.

“Um, I really like painting. And video games. Oh, working out too.”

“Oh cool. We’ve got a gym membership, we usually just use it for the showers and the food but you’re welcome to use it.” Jean offered.

“You guys have a gym membership?”

“Yea, it’s just ten dollars a month and its totally worth it. The showers are a lot nicer than ours.” Pepper explained.

Screenshot-8323

“How do you guys make money?” I was curious, how did they survive?

“We usually find salvageable things in the junkyard and sell them at the pawn shop next door.” Rose pointed towards the building behind her.

“Oh okay.”

 Screenshot-8326

“Thorn, can I ask you a question?” Rose asked, hesitantly.

“Sure.”

“Do you know your family history?”

“Um, not really. Why?”

“Because, your family is like a huge part of the history classes at our schools. If you’d like, I wouldn’t mind telling you a little bit about your history.” She blushed slightly.

“Wow, that would be great. But not right now, I’m pretty exhausted.” I chuckled.

“Of course. We should probably get to sleep.” Rose suggested.

Screenshot-8332

Jean and Rose immediately bundled up in their sleeping bags while Pepper put out the fire. I made a trip to the bathroom before coming out for bed.

“Are you doing alright?” Pepper whispered when I came back outside.

“Yea, thank you guys for being so kind.” I smiled at him.

“Of course. Goodnight Thorn.”

“Goodnight Pepper.”

Screenshot-8337

Within seconds, I was fast asleep.

Thorn Fae Chapter 5: Stop, Go

Screenshot-8242

“Clementine, stop struggling. I really don’t want to have to shoot you.” Aloe stopped hitting me and forced my shoulders down on the bed.

“Get off me!” I yelled, though not too loud in fear of being shot.

“You know I can’t do that.”

Screenshot-8244

“What the hell is going on?” Nutmeg screamed from the other side of the room. She must’ve been on this side of the castle and heard our struggle.

“Nutmeg, help!” I called out, just before Aloe covered my mouth with his rough, sweaty hand.

“Leave. This doesn’t concern you.” He glared at her, stupidly thinking it would get her to leave.

Screenshot-8246

“Of course this concerns me. Thorn is a son to me, get the fuck off him.” Nutmeg shouted as she made her way over to us.

She is my daughter, you’re not her mother. Fuck off and let me do my parenting.” Aloe tightened his grip on me.

“He’s not even your kid, you’re not his father. Let him go, you sick fuck.” I’ve never seen Nutmeg so angry in my life.

Screenshot-8247

“Stop that. Clementine is a girl, I’m trying to fix her. I don’t need you encouraging her delusions. Now, get the fuck out of this room and let me finish, or I will shoot you.” Aloe swung around and pulled his gun on Nutmeg.

He doesn’t need fixing, you do! Do you really think raping him would ‘fix’ him?” She spat, I’ve never seen someone so angry and disgusted in my life.

“It’s. Not. Rape.” He seethed.

Screenshot-8250

“Of course it is! He doesn’t want it, that’s exactly the definition. Just leave him alone.” Nutmeg was still defending me, even though she had a gun in her face. I would’ve understood if she backed down, this wasn’t something anyone should lose their lives over.

“Stop that, you delusional cunt, I don’t have time for this. Leave this room, or else I’ll shoot.” Aloe shook the gun at her.

“I’m not about to walk out of here and just let you rape a teenager.” Nutmeg shouted.

The gunshot was the loudest noise I’ve ever heard, or will ever hear, in my life.

Screenshot-8253

Nutmeg fell to the floor with a heavy thud. My ears were still ringing from the shot, and I felt like I was going to vomit, but I still rushed to her side.

Screenshot-8255

“Nutmeg!” I shouted as I pulled her into my arms. “Nutmeg, no.” I sobbed.

“Thorn,” She started, her voice raspy and soft. “Run, they can’t stay here without you. Go.”

With that, Nutmeg took her last breath and closed her eyes forever.

Screenshot-8259

“You piece of shit!” I screamed, after I gently laid Nutmeg back on the ground.

“Look, Clementine, I gave her a chance. I warned her. She wanted to die.” He reasoned, but I wasn’t having any of it.

“Bullshit! She was trying to save me and you killed her. You killed one of the only people who’s ever loved me.” I clenched my fists. “Fuck you.” I turned to walk out of the room.

Screenshot-8256

“W-where are you going?” Aloe panicked.

“I’m leaving. Apparently you can’t stay here without me. Enjoy your life, peasant.” I spat at him.

“No, Clementine don’t leave. We’ll work something out. I’ll buy you whatever you want. Just stay.” He was flustered. With the way he was acting, I knew that Nutmeg’s last words were true.

Screenshot-8260

I didn’t say another word to him. There were no words for how much I hated him, and how vile of a person he was. I just spun on my heel and flew out of the room as fast as I could, incase he got his shit together and decided to shoot or tackle me.

Screenshot-8262

In a split-second decision, I decided to head for the balcony instead of the front door. I didn’t know if he had some kind of security or something to stop me from escaping, so this was my best bet.

Screenshot-8266

Thanks to my wings, the fall wasn’t hard. Which was a good thing, since I wasn’t wearing shoes.

Screenshot-8267

I took off, flying as fast as I could incase someone decided to follow me. Due to my sheltered life, I’d only been out of the castle a handful of times. I had no idea what I was doing or where I was going, but all I knew was that I couldn’t stay here.

I just wish I could’ve said goodbye to Hawk before I left.

————–

*Hawk*

Screenshot-8268

“I-I just don’t understand.” I managed to choke out between sobs. “H-he’s my b-best friend. He l-loved her. Why would he do this?”

My mom was murdered, she was shot by my best friend, Thorn. His step-father, had come in the room after hearing the gunshot. Thorn fled after he was caught.

At least this is what I was being told. I wasn’t sure what was truth or not. All I knew for sure was that my mom was dead. We now sat in the dining hall while the rest of the staff was being interviewed about what went down.

Screenshot-8270

“Clementine is a very mentally disturbed individual.” Aloe explained condescendingly. “She must’ve snapped. It’s, unfortunate your mother was caught in the crossfire.” He said, feigning empathy.

“I mean, are you sure it was Clem?” My dad asked.

“I’m positive, the gun was still in her hand when I entered the room.”

“Where is the gun?”

“She must’ve taken it with her. I just hope she doesn’t try to use it on anyone else. She’s in enough trouble as is.”

Screenshot-8269

“I-I just don’t see why he’d use it in the first place, or why he’d even have one to begin with.” I was really struggling to wrap my mind around this all. Sure, he had been acting a little strange lately, but he would never shoot my mom… Right?

Screenshot-8271

“How would Clem get a gun?” My dad asked Aloe. I could tell my dad was suspicious. As was I, Aloe wasn’t exactly a trustworthy man.

“I have no clue. Maybe one of the peasants you let into the castle this weekend gave it to her. We have no idea what those street rats are capable of.” He sneered.

“This just isn’t adding up.” My dad rubbed his forehead in anguish.

“Well, who do you think the cops are going to believe? Me, their king, or you, the help?” He scowled. My dad recoiled and nodded.

“Y-yes sir. I-I’m sorry I spoke out.”

“Good, now shut up and understand that my story is the truth, and that brat is a murderer.”

Unfortunately, at this point I wasn’t sure who to believe.

Thorn Fae Chapter 4: Confusion and Consequences

WARNING: Strong, abusive language and violence. Do not read if those things are triggering to you. Thank you.

Screenshot-8215

The next weekend, my mother and step-father were out of town, so Hawk was bringing his group of friends over to hang out. We weren’t going to do anything crazy, just watch some movies in my mother’s room and get to know each other. I was nervous as hell, it was my first time meeting people my age, outside of a royal function.

Screenshot-8217

“Hey, man.” Hawk called out as he entered the room. Four teenagers followed him in.

“Hey.” I waved awkwardly.

“So, this is Forrest,” He motioned towards the red-haired boy, who gave me a small wave.

“Hey.” I said again.

“And this is Bird, Holly, and Ocean.” He motioned to the blue-haired girl, the green-haired girl, and the pink-haired girl respectively. Immediately after seeing Holly I got nervous. I’d never been around a vampire other than Aloe, and he wasn’t exactly a stand up guy.

“Uh, hey. Take a seat.” I motioned towards the couches.

Screenshot-8219

They all sat down, a girl on either side of me. I felt a little weird, but I wasn’t sure if I was attracted to any of them. I didn’t really know what that felt like yet. Maybe I just needed to get to know them a little more.

“So, this is the famous Thorn. We’ve been hearing so much about you, like since kindergarten basically.” Bird giggled, making Hawk blush. I was really hoping they wouldn’t bring up my royal status, I didn’t want to talk about it.

“Good things?” I asked.

“Yea, that’s for sure. Hawk’s very fond of you.” She replied, making me blush right alongside Hawk.

Screenshot-8225

“Yea, it’s really cool to finally meet you after all this time.” Forrest chimed in.

“Thanks man. It’s nice to meet you guys too.” I smiled at them. “So what do you guys like to do?” I asked, hoping I was asking the right things. I didn’t want to come off as awkward or weird.

“Well I’m really into sports, I’m trying to get super buff.” Forrest chuckled.

“Oh, nice.” I smiled.

Screenshot-8224

“I’m really into medical stuff, I spend a lot of time reading medical books and journals. I want to be a doctor.” Holly told me.

“Oh that’s really awesome. Hawk mentioned he might want to be a doctor someday.”

“Yea, we’ve been discussing med schools.”

Screenshot-8220

“What about you?” I turned to Ocean.

“I’m pretty athletic a well,” She motioned over towards Forrest. “But I’m a lot better than he is.” He stuck his tongue out at her.

“What’s your favorite sport?” I asked, even though I wasn’t really knowledgeable when it came to sports.

“Soccer, definitely. But I don’t like to watch sports, only play them.” She admitted, and I nodded in agreement.

Screenshot-8226

“I’m really into beauty products and makeup, I really want to be a makeup artist.” Bird told me excitedly.

“Oh that’s cool, like special effects makeup or just regular makeup?”

“I want to know how to do all kinds of makeup, being versatile is never a bad thing.” She laughed.

“That’s true.”

Screenshot-8227

“Hey Thorn, why don’t we go get some snacks?” Ocean turned to me and asked.

“Uh yea, sure. I’ll see what we have.”

“I’ll come with you.” She insisted.

Screenshot-8229

As we were walking towards the door, Ocean grabbed my hand. Startled, I glanced over at Hawk, who was pretending not to notice. When I turned back to Ocean we were already in the hallway.

Screenshot-8230

Before I could even ask her any questions, she grabbed my face and kissed me. I kissed her back, more out of instinct rather than actual lust.

When she pulled back, I tried to say something but she stopped me. “Hawk told me everything, about how he’s in love with you and you aren’t sure if you like boys or girls. I offered to help you figure that out.”

“You don’t have to do that if you don’t want to.” Was all I managed to say.

“I know.”

Screenshot-8235

“I know I don’t have to, but I’m doing him a favor. And, you’re super cute, so it’s not like it’s a chore.” She giggled.

“Y-you think I’m cute?”

“Well yea, you’re like one of the cutest guys I’ve ever seen.” I felt myself blushing again.

“Thank you.”

“Now, let’s go get some snacks so we can start watching this movie.” She grabbed my hand and excitedly pulled me towards the stairs.

Screenshot-8236

When we went downstairs, Nutmeg told us she would bring the snacks up in a bit. We offered to get them, but she insisted. She wanted to make us a pizza or something. So the two of us went back upstairs and I put on the movie. It was some kind of comedy, but I wasn’t really paying attention.

I had a pretty girl under my arm, but I wasn’t really enjoying it. Sure, it wasn’t terrible, but I wasn’t really attracted to her either.

Screenshot-8237

I thought meeting people my age would help me become less confused, but now I was questioning myself even more.

————–

Screenshot-8238

It was Monday, and I was still confused. I locked myself in my room so I could try and work it all out. Ocean was pretty, I liked kissing her, but I don’t know if I’d want to be with her, or any girl, long term. But at the same time, I wasn’t sure if I could be with a guy. I’ve always found guys attractive, but I thought that was just because I’ve always wanted to be one.

My brain was hurting, but I felt like I owed it to Hawk to figure things out for myself. I didn’t want to string him along or keep him waiting. He deserved to be happy, whether it was with me or with someone else.

I was so lost in my thoughts, I didn’t realize I wasn’t alone in my room until it was too late.

Screenshot-8240

My step-father, Aloe, yanked my arm back and covered my mouth before I had time to scream.

“Clementine, I have a gun in my jacket, if you scream you’re dead.” I felt my heart speed up. What the fuck was he doing?

“I know you had people over. I know you kissed that girl. You disgust me, I always knew you were a rebellious little cunt, and I always knew your father was insane, but I didn’t think you’d go as far as this. I can’t believe you’re a dyke.”

“Fuck off.” I managed to mumbled from behind his hand.

“Oh Clementine, I think it’s time a man put you in your place. I’m gonna fuck the dyke out of you, you little bitch.”

Screenshot-8242

Aloe dragged me over to my bed, still covering my mouth. I tried to kick and scream, not caring about the gun, but he was too strong. He threw me on the bed and stood between my legs.

“The less you struggle, the easier it’ll be for both of us.” He glared. “I don’t want to do this to you, but your mother and I can’t afford to have a queer kid like you.”

“Then don’t do it, you fucker.” I yelled, trying to fight back.

“Oh but Clementine, I have to. Now shut up and be a good girl, and I won’t have to blow your fucking head off.” He opened his jacket slightly to reveal the gun holstered to his belt.

“Fuck. You.” I spat in his face. That pissed him off even more, which made him start beating the crap out of my face.

Between the beating and trying to breathe through the blood in my mouth, I prayed. I was about to die, and I knew it.

A/N: I’m so sorry for the long waits between chapters. I’m almost done with school so I’ve got more free time. I promise I’ll try to update more. Thanks for reading 🙂

Thorn Fae Chapter 3: I Thought You Were Different

Screenshot-8178

One of the few perks of living in royal hell was the private gym. I’d spend hours in there, lifting weights or running on the treadmill. It helped me escape, and it helped me feel better about being stuck in the wrong body.

I was rarely ever bothered while I was in here, and no one ever joined me in my workouts. It was my own little safe-haven. That’s why when the gym door opened and Hawk peeked his head in, it threw me off guard.

Screenshot-8179

“Uh hey Thorn, how’s the work out?” He was nervous and fidgety, he was usually a cautious person but that doesn’t make him a nervous wreck like this.

“Good. Why, what’s up?” I asked, slightly breathless.

“When do you think you’ll be done?” He completely ignored my own question.

Screenshot-8181

“I was just finishing up.” I lied, something was obviously up with him. My workout could wait.

“Oh, okay.”

“What’s up dude, you’re acting really strange.”

“I need to talk to you about something, so can you meet me outside by the pool?”

“Uh yeah, I guess. I’ll meet you there in five, I’m gonna change first.” I decided not to question him further, he was obviously going to tell me about whatever was bothering him when we met outside.

Screenshot-8180

“Alright, take your time. No rush.” He fidgeted nervously with the hem of his shirt.

“Noted. I’ll be down in a few.” I smiled at his as he walked out of the room.

I was a little nervous too, after seeing the strange way he was acting. What was he about to tell me? Was he leaving? I knew he wanted to go to college, so maybe it was time for him to start school. Or maybe he was sick or something. A million outcomes flashed through my mind before I realized I should suck it up and get changed.

————–

Screenshot-8184

A few minutes later I was in the backyard staring at Hawk. Did I really know what he wanted to say? I had a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach and I just couldn’t shake it.

But I didn’t really have a choice to back out here. No matter what, he was going to tell me whatever he had to tell me. There was no point in prolonging it.

Screenshot-8188

“Hey.” I greeted as I approached. He immediately jumped up from the lawn chair and nervously grabbed at his collar.

“Hey Thorn.”

“So, what do you have to talk to me about?” I thought it’d be best to just get it over with.

“Well, a lot actually. So I’m just going to dive right in.”

Screenshot-8189

“You’ve been my best friend for as long as I can remember. You’ve been there for me and I for you, I can’t imagine a life without you. You make me insanely happy and I can be myself around you.”

“What are you getting at here?”

“Thorn, I think I’m in love with you.”

Screenshot-8191

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I felt the anger bubbling up inside me. I wanted to punch him.

“W-what? No, I wouldn’t joke about something like this.”

“After all this time, I thought you were different. I thought you saw the real me, I thought you understood. I mean, hell, you were the one who convinced me to transition! But you’re just like everyone else, you only see me as a girl.”

Screenshot-8193

“Thorn, it’s not like that at all, I swear. I’ve only ever seen you as a guy, you know that. I like boys. I’m gay, and I think I’m in love with you.”

“How come you never told me this before?” I still didn’t fully believe he liked me as a boy.

“I tried to be with girls, I tried to repress it. I didn’t and still don’t know if you like boys, so I tried to be with girls. But I just couldn’t love them like I love you.” He looked and sounded like he was going to cry.

“You really love me?”

“More than anyone else.”

Screenshot-8194

Caught up in the moment, I pulled Hawk close to me and kissed him. I regretted it almost immediately.

Hawk was my best friend. A relationship between us could ruin everything and I could end up with no one. Besides, I wasn’t even sure if I liked boys. I didn’t know any girls my age, so how do I know I don’t like them?

As suddenly as I pulled him in for a kiss, I pushed him away.

Screenshot-8197

My jaw dropped open and I made an animal like screech, then took off. I couldn’t face this right now.

“Wait, Thorn, come back! I’m sorry!” Hawk yelled after me, but I didn’t turn around. I just flew straight into the castle.

—————

Screenshot-8198

The bench in the courtyard was where I went went I was stressed or confused. It wasn’t exactly private, since it was surrounded by windows, but it was pretty and the small pond was soothing to me.

I didn’t know what to do or what to think. This was all so confusing, I felt like I was going to be sick.

Screenshot-8199

“Thorn?” Hawk’s dad, Grape, sat down on the bench next to me. I really wasn’t in the mood to talk, but I also didn’t want to be rude to the only man who actually treated me like a son.

“Yea?” I responded miserably.

“What happened?” He asked. I debated with myself on whether or not I should tell him. I mean, Hawk was his son after all. This conversation might be awkward. But ultimately, I didn’t really have anyone else to talk to about this. Nutmeg wouldn’t really understand.

“Hawk’s in love with me. He says he sees me as a boy but I’m not sure I believe him. And, I’m not sure I even like boys myself. I’ve never actually met any girls my age and I don’t  want to settle for the first person who shows interest in me, y’know?”

Screenshot-8200

“I knew this would come someday. Hawk’s feelings for you have always been apparent to his mom and I. But, I know for a fact my son sees you as a boy. He’s always been your biggest supporter, there’s no way he would change his perception of you just because he has a crush on you.”

“I mean I guess, but I’m not exactly the most masculine guy in the world. It’s pretty easy to see me as a girl, I’ve still got tits after all.”

“Trust me, Hawk doesn’t care about that. He sees the person you really are. But if it really bothers you, we can buy you a chest binder, to make your chest flatter.” He offered.

Screenshot-8202

“You’d do that for me?”

“Of course, you’re like a son to me. I want you to be comfortable. I’ll talk to Nutmeg and we’ll get it sorted out. As for the other part of your problem, I think I can arrange for you to meet some more kids your age.”

“What? How?” I felt like Grape was a fairy godfather or something, here to make all my wishes come true.

“Ginger and Aloe are going out of town next weekend. We’ll have the castle to ourselves. We can have Hawk bring his friends over, that was you can get to know them. That is, if you want that.”

“I’d love that, that sounds awesome.”

Screenshot-8203

“Then it’s settled, when you’re parents are out of town, we’re throwing a party.” He chuckled.

“What a teen-movie cliche.” I laughed with him, then switched into serious mode. “What if they don’t like me? I don’t exactly have the best social skills.”

“How could someone not like you? You’re one of the greatest kids I know. Once they get to know you, they’ll love you.”

“I hope so.” I wrung my hands nervously. Though I was excited about the idea of meeting new people, it was a little frightening as well.

I was just hoping for the best.

A/N: Hey guys, I’m so so sorry I took so long to post, I’ve been sick and I’m back in school, so I’ve been a little busy. But I’m going to try to keep updating regularly, hopefully I can! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you liked the chapter 🙂

Clem Fae Chapter 2: Don’t Call Me That

Screenshot-8074

Hawk and I spent a lot of time in the winery, my mother refused to drink any wine that wasn’t made specifically for her. She was stuck up in that way. But when it wasn’t being used to cater to my mother’s ridiculous standards, it made a great place to hide away.

“Have you talked to your mom since the other day?” Hawk asked as we idly played with our toys.

“No. But I heard her talking to Aloe, they wanna send me to therapy. They think I’m crazy or something.” I sighed.

Screenshot-8076

“I think they’re the crazy ones. I just don’t really see you as a girl.”

“Thanks Hawk.” I smiled at my friend.

“So, have you thought of a name yet?” He asked.

“Oh, yea I did.” I remembered excitedly. I hoped Hawk would like my new name choice.

Screenshot-8079

“Oh really, what is it?” He looked just as excited as I felt.

“How does ‘Thorn’ sound?” I asked.

“That’s perfect!” He exclaimed.

“You really think so?”

“I do, Thorn.” He smiled widely, making me smile as well. It was a good feeling, being accepted.

Screenshot-8083

“Are you gonna tell your mother?” He asked.

“Yea, but I don’t think she’ll actually call me that.”

“Well it’s worth a shot.”

“Yea, I’m not giving up yet. Maybe she’ll come around eventually.” I hoped, but part of me knew that would never happen.

————

*Years later*

Screenshot-8089

“Clementine, when did these delusions start?” My new therapist, Doctor Ass-hat or something, I’ve gone through so many therapists just this year I don’t even bother learning their names anymore.

“Don’t call me that. My name is Thorn. And I’m not having any delusions, I’m transgender.” I explained for probably the thousandth time.

“Clementine. You believe you’re a boy. You believe you’re something you’re not. Now, I’d say that’s delusional.” He smirked with his creepy little mustached mouth. He looked so smug, I wanted to punch him. But last time my mother had to pay him off so he wouldn’t sue.

Screenshot-8095

“You see, but I am a boy. What’s a boy to you, sir?” I asked, faking respect for the douche-bag in front of me.

“A boy is someone born male, Clementine. A male is someone with a penis.” He explained, using a voice that adults use to talk to small children.

“So, basically you’re saying that people are defined by their physical attributes? You’re saying that people have to look and act a certain way because of what they have between their legs? I was always taught not to judge someone by their appearance, does that not apply here?”

Screenshot-8091

“Physical appearance and biology are two different things, Clementine. People can’t just decide to change their gender, that’s not how the world works.”

“First of all, don’t call me that. My name is Thorn. Second, that’s bullshit. If I feel like, act like, and dress like a boy, I’m a boy. I shouldn’t have to be forced to be someone I’m not.”

“I agree, I don’t think you should force yourself to be a boy when you aren’t one.” He thought he was a goddamn genius, and I hated him.

Screenshot-8094

“Sir, where did you get your degree? The University of Bigotry?”

“Clementine, this session isn’t about me. It’s about you and your issues.”

“Really? Because it seems like its about you, you keep trying to force your close-minded gender roles on me. You’re pushing what you think is right onto me, when I might not necessarily agree. So Sir, it seems like this session actually is about you.”

I could see the old man’s mustache twitch. He was getting angry, by now I could read therapists like a book. They would try their best to stay calm, but if I tried hard enough I could get them to explode.

Screenshot-8099

But unfortunately, right as the doctor was about to respond, my library door swung open.

“Excuse me, the Queen has requested the session to end early today, her birthday party is starting in an hour and she needs Clementine ready before the guests arrive.” One of my mother’s servants, Reef Crane, stepped into the room. Though I didn’t get to thoroughly piss this guy off, I was glad to get out of here. But I wasn’t glad I had to go to this party.

Screenshot-8097

I stood to leave and sighed. “Is my dress in my wardrobe?” I asked him, visibly and audibly dejected.

“Yes it is.”

I grumbled and rolled my eyes as I approached the door to leave. Reef held the door open for me and closed it behind us.

“I’m sorry, Thorn. I really wish we didn’t have to do this to you.” He apologized once the therapist was out of earshot.

“It’s okay, I understand how it is. Hopefully my mother will come around soon.” I said, but we both knew that would never happen.

“I’ll see you downstairs.” He gave me a sad smile as he headed out of my bedroom.

Screenshot-8101

When I opened the wardrobe, a hideous pink dress stared me in the face. I wanted to burn it, or maybe throw it out my window. But unfortunately, my mom had my windows locked permanently after doing that so many times before.

Hopefully I’d just have to make an appearance at the party, then when things got crazy I could just slip away. I didn’t want to have to spend any more time in this thing than necessary.

When I got the dress on, I wanted to puke at the sight of myself in the mirror. I looked so… girly. I’m not a girl. My reflection didn’t match my perception of myself, and I hated it. My eyes started to tear up as I stood there, staring.

No. I can’t cry about this. I told myself.

I was gonna have to suck it up for a while, no matter how terrible I felt.

——–

Screenshot-8102

But sucking it up didn’t mean I had to pretend to enjoy myself. I wanted to be as pissy as possible, to let my mother know I wasn’t doing this willingly.

“Now Nutmeg, I want you to watch her, make sure she doesn’t cause problems with the guests.” My mother spoke to my nanny as if I wasn’t there.

“Yes your highness.”

“I want her to make an appearance, assure everyone that she’s alive and well, then she can leave. I don’t want a repeat of my twenty-ninth birthday.” She glared at me.

“I’m pretty sure that was your thirty-fifth birthday, mom.” I smiled smugly as she balled her fists.

Screenshot-8104

“Clementine, dear, please be nice to your mother. It’s her birthday.” Aloe scolded, and my mother beamed at him.

“Thank you, baby.” She cooed sickly. I felt like barfing. “Listen to your dad, Clementine.”

“He’s not my dad. Aloe’s my step-dad.”

“He’s the only father you’ve ever known. He’s been here, and your real father hasn’t. He’s your father.” She glared.

Screenshot-8106

“The man didn’t even speak to me until I was ten years old, I wouldn’t even consider him a family friend.”

“Clementine, would it kill you to be pleasant for once in your life? I’m so tired of this attitude.” My mother rolled her eyes.

“I wouldn’t have such an attitude if you actually let me be myself.”

“We are not getting into this right now.” She shot daggers with her eyes. “Now, why don’t you go with Nutmeg, she can help you get your makeup on.”

Screenshot-8107

I glanced over at Nutmeg, and she nodded. “Come on now, Clem, let’s go.” She wrapped her arm around my shoulders. I felt a little better, I knew we weren’t actually going to put makeup on. She was going to let me sit in the kitchen while she got the food ready. It’s what we did pretty much every party.

“Fine.” I pretended to be pissed. We didn’t want my mom to get suspicious. She smiled smugly at me, thinking that she won. I couldn’t wait until I could sneak out of the party.

————–

*A few hours later*

Screenshot-8108

Once a lot of people crowded the ballroom, it was fairly easy to sneak out and into my room. I quickly changed back into my own clothes and instantly felt better.

When I finished changing, I made my way to the winery. As we got older, Hawk and I stopped playing in here and started hanging out in the tower room above it. Nutmeg and the other servants helped us furnish the little room, and we all called it the man-cave.

Screenshot-8112

“Hey, mind if I join you?” I asked Hawk when I entered the room. He was completely absorbed in the video game, so I startled him a bit.

“Not at all man, take a seat.” He patted the bean bag next to him.

Screenshot-8115

I grabbed my controller and jumped right into the game. “How was the party?” He asked.

“Shitty, as always. I really don’t see why anyone would enjoy something like that.” I huffed.

“I don’t either. When you’re king, you better not have parties like that.” He chuckled.

“Nah man, my parties are gonna be way awesome. Open bars, DJs, cool stuff like that. Not stuffy people standing around talking about politics. That’s what meetings are for.”

“Dude, you’re gonna be the best king ever.”

“Thanks man, I don’t really wanna be king but if I had to, I definitely won’t be boring.”

“If you aren’t king, what would you like to be?”

Screenshot-8114

“I think maybe an artist. Or a video game designer. Something cool like that. What do you wanna do?”

“Well if I’m not a servant forever, I’d probably want to be a doctor. Or a therapist. But a good therapist.” He said quickly when I glared at him. “I want to actually help people, not make them feel worse.”

“That’s good, this world needs more people like you.”

“Thank you, Thorn.”

Clementine Fae Chapter 1: Anything You Wanna Be

Screenshot-7977

My mother was out for the day, I was able to spend some time with Hawk. The two of us sat in the library, bored and unsure of what to do. Neither of us were in the mood to play games after my mother’s outburst.

“Hawk, what should we do today? I’m bored.” I sighed.

“Dunno, maybe we should just hang out in here. If your mom comes home then it’ll take her longer to find us.”

“I guess, but what are we supposed to do in a library?” I sighed.

Screenshot-7978

“I don’t know, talk I guess?” He suggested.

“Talk about what?” I wasn’t exactly a social expert…

“I don’t know, how are you?”

“Not great, I don’t really like my life.” I admitted.

“Why?” He cocked his head, visibly confused.

“I don’t know, I guess I’d rather have a life like yours.”

Screenshot-7980

“Why? You’ve got a pretty cool life. You live in a castle!”

“You do too.” I reminded him.

“Yea, in a room with four other people. You have a sweet set up with games and toys. Why don’t you like it?”

“I-I guess I just don’t like being a girl.” I broke eye contact and started staring at my hands.

Screenshot-7981

“Well do you wanna be a boy?”

“Yea.”

“Then be a boy! My mom always tells me I can be whatever I wanna be, so you can too.” He smiled up at me.

“Really?”

“Yea!”

“What do I have to do first?” I asked excitedly.

“Well, we should probably cut your hair, so you look more like a boy.” He suggested.

Screenshot-7982

“I’ll race you to the bathroom!” I shot up and flew out of the room, eager to get started.

————-

Screenshot-7986

I beat Hawk to the bathroom fairly easily. With my back to him, I stood in front of the mirror.

“Clem, are you sure you wanna do this?” He asked nervously. “I know it’ll make you feel better, but what about your mom?”

“I don’t care, she can’t do anything about it. Sure, she can punish me, but that’s not gonna make my hair grow back.” I smirked, she could make me change my clothes if she wanted, but she can’t break the laws of nature.

Screenshot-7987

“Hawk, hand me the scissors.” I stuck my hand out and he placed them in my hand.

I took a deep breath as I put my hair into a ponytail. “Well, here goes nothing.” I said as I cut the ponytail off.

“Your mom is going to kill us.” Hawk gulped from behind me.

Screenshot-7988

After ten minutes of cutting and styling, I was finally happy with my hair. “So, how does it look?” I asked Hawk.

“Great, you look like a boy!” He smiled at me, and I couldn’t help but smile back. I never felt so happy with myself.

“Now what do I have to do to be a boy?”

“Um, I’m not sure, I think you’re already a boy.”

“What about my name? Clementine isn’t exactly a boy name.”

Screenshot-7997

“Do you have a boy name you wanna go by?” He asked as I stepped off the stool and away from the mirror.

“Um. Not yet. I’ll think about it.”

“Well then until you do, I’ll just call you Clem. It’s not girly like your full name.”

Screenshot-7999

“Thank you Hawk, you’re the best friend I could ever have.” I reached over and hugged him.

“Yea, of course, dude.” He patted me on the back. “Now, wanna go play on the trampoline?”

“What happened to hanging out in the library?” I asked, and he shrugged.

“We shouldn’t have to be afraid of your mom. Let’s just go have fun.”

—————-

Screenshot-8003

Hawk and I spent the remainder of the afternoon bouncing on the trampoline. Even though we both knew my mom was going to burst a blood vessel screaming at me when she got home, we didn’t care. I finally felt happy with myself. No matter what my mom said to me, she couldn’t change that.

Screenshot-8007

Soon, we heard the dreadful sound of my mom’s car pulling into the driveway. I looked over and saw her get out. She took one look at me and bolted inside.

Screenshot-8008

“Clementine Fae, get your ass down here now.” She came outside screaming. It seemed like I heard her yell more than I actually heard her speak.

I sighed and looked at Hawk, we both knew this wasn’t going to end well.

Screenshot-8010

“What have you done to yourself?” She bellowed as soon as I approached her.

“I cut my hair.” I responded nonchalantly.

Screenshot-8016

“Why would you do such a thing! You look like a boy!”

“Because I wanna be a boy!” I screamed back. She looked baffled.

“That’s impossible, you’re a girl. You’ll always be a girl, and nothing but a girl. Now stop this nonsense. Get inside, right now.”

Screenshot-8019

“I am a boy! No matter what you say.” I stomped my foot on the grass.

“Get inside right now young lady, I’m going to have a long talk with your father about your behavior.”

“I’m not a lady! And Aloe is not my father.” I snarled at her.

“Get. Inside.” She glared so hard that if looks could kill, I’d be dead a hundred times over.

“Fine.” I huffed and made my way inside.

————

*Ginger*

Screenshot-8027

“Aloe, what the hell is wrong with my daughter? Why is she acting like this?” I buried my face in my hand.

“I don’t know, Pumpkin, but this has to stop here. Maybe we should get her a therapist.” My husband suggested.

“Yea, maybe. Do you think she’s crazy, like Lake?” It was one of my biggest fears after finding out he was insane, I would hate for my child to end up just like him.

Screenshot-8025

“It’s possible. But I think we can stop it here. If she get’s help, she’ll be able to get out of this ‘I’m a boy’ delusion.”

Screenshot-8030

“I really hope you’re right, Aloe. This could end very badly for us. We could lose everything if we lose her.”

“I’ll call the therapist first thing in the morning.”

————

*Clem*

Screenshot-8031

I could hear my mom and Aloe talking about me, so I went out and took a seat in the courtyard.

“Clem, can I sit?” Nutmeg’s voice asked from behind me.

“Sure.” I sighed. I didn’t want to be lectured by her too.

Screenshot-8036

“So I talked to Hawk, he told me everything.” She smiled, and I felt a little more at ease. Maybe she wasn’t about to yell at me.

“And?” I asked, hopeful.

“And, I’m very proud of you. I know it can be scary to be yourself. But I’m here for you, I support you. I know Hawk does too.”

Screenshot-8037

“Thank you.” I smiled at her. “But what about my mom? What is she gonna do to me?”

“I… I don’t know. But I’ll talk to her, I’ll try to talk some sense into her. Being transgender isn’t something that needs to be fixed.”

“What does that mean?”

“Transgender?” She asked, and I nodded. “It means not identifying with the gender you were assigned at birth. Since you were born a girl, and you identify as a boy, that means you’re transgender.” She explained.

“Are there other people like me?” I asked.

Screenshot-8039

“Loads, boys who were born girls, girls who were born boys.  You’re not alone.” She wrapped her arm around my shoulders.

“That’s good.”

“Yea. You’re a good kid, I promise I’m going to do my best to make sure you’re happy.”

“Thank you. I love you.”

“I love you too.” She kissed me on the top of my head. “Now, let’s get you some dinner, then get you off to bed.”

She grabbed my hand and led me out of the courtyard. It was nice to have one adult on my side.

So sorry for the long wait, I’ve been stuck on this chapter forever. Hopefully I’ll be posting more often now, thank you for bearing with me!

Generation 5 Prologue

Screenshot-7895

“Please, Clementine. Please don’t give me trouble today.” My nanny, Nutmeg, practically begged. This was our daily routine, she had to dress me in whatever ridiculous outfit my mommy picked out for whatever royal function that was happening that day.

“No dresses!” I pouted.

“Mommy needs you to wear one, its your pretty princess dress. Won’t that be nice?”

Screenshot-7897

“No! Dresses ugly!” I protested. I hated the stupid dresses my mommy made me wear, the frilly pink gowns were dreadful and uncomfortable.

Nutmeg sighed and ran her fingers through her hair, visibly frustrated. “If you wear the dress, I’ll take you and Hawk outside to play.”

Screenshot-7898

I considered it. Hawk was Nutmeg’s son and my best friend, they lived here in the castle with us. Mommy said we were better than them, but I wasn’t so sure. They didn’t have to wear ugly clothes and sit in boring meetings or have their pictures taken a million times. They just got to be normal, and I was jealous.

Screenshot-7899

“Nutmeg, why isn’t she dressed yet?” My mommy’s harsh voice scolded the nanny.

“She’s being difficult again.” Nutmeg sighed again. “She really doesn’t want to wear the dress.”

“She’s a baby for gods sake! Who cares what she wants, just dress her! She can’t overpower you.”

Screenshot-7900

“Y-yes your majesty. I’ll get right on it.”

“Thank you, and when you’re done with that, please remove your child. He can stay in the castle, but I don’t want him socializing with Clementine too much. She’s better than you common folk.”

Screenshot-7903

“No! He’s my friend!” I cried, I didn’t understand why my mommy didn’t want me to be friends with him.

“Oh, Clementine, you’re so much better than him. He’s not your friend, he’s just the help.” My mommy laughed, but I didn’t really think what she said was funny.

Screenshot-7902

“No! No dresses! Hawk stays!” I started to cry, making my mommy’s face scrunch up like she smelled something bad.

Screenshot-7904

“Ugh, deal with this. I have to go make sure Aloe is ready for our appearance.” She turned and walked out, the clacking of her heels echoing through my large bedroom.

Her leaving made me cry even harder. Why didn’t my mommy ever comfort me when I was upset? Hawk’s mommy always did that for him, while my mommy only ever held me for pictures.

Screenshot-7906

“Shh, it’s ok.” Nutmeg scooped me into her arms and cuddled me. “It’ll be over before you know it, then you can come back here and play all you want.”

“W-with Hawk?” I sniveled.

“We’ll see honey, we’ll see.” She rubbed my back soothingly, and I realized that Nutmeg was more of a mommy to me than my actual one.

—————

Screenshot-7909

Growing up in a castle might seem magical, but my experience was anything but. Sure, there were more rooms than I could count and more cars than people, but I didn’t want these things. I didn’t want the intricate dresses or the constant flow of gifts from the ‘subjects’ in my mom’s kingdom. I just wanted to be normal.

Screenshot-7914

The only bit of normalcy I had in my life was Hawk. Whenever we played together, I was able to forget about my royal life and feel like a regular kid. He’d lend me clothes whenever we played together, the dresses my mom made me wear were hard to play in. I liked boys clothes better anyways.

Screenshot-7919

There were a few perks of living in a castle though, the backyard was full of play equipment and cool things for Hawk and I to do whenever we were back there. We’d often run from activity to activity, we could never decide what we wanted to do so we’d just try to do everything.

“What should we do today?” I asked him as we sat in the sand.

Screenshot-7926

“I dunno, but we shouldn’t be outside long, it’s cold.” Ah, typical Hawk, always cautious.

“Don’t be such a weenie,” I teased. “But if you want I guess we could go play video games in my room.” I suggested, I hated being in my room but I did like video games.

“Really?” His eyes lit up, I knew he wouldn’t suggest we do that, but I also knew that’s what he wanted to do.

Screenshot-7922

“Yea, I don’t really mind. Besides, if I’m looking at the video game I don’t have to see my hideous room.” I laughed.

“Oh, ok.” He smiled at me before jumping up. “C’mon, I’ll race ya.”

Screenshot-7929

“Hey! No fair, you got a head start!” I jumped up as well but he was already halfway to the deck.

“It’s not my fault you’re slow!” He laughed as he took off inside the castle.

————–

Screenshot-7940

Hawk beat me to my bedroom, so I was determined to beat him at video games. I stared intensely at the screen while pressing the appropriate buttons as fast as I could.

“You are so going down, Hawk.” I trash-talked through gritted teeth.

Screenshot-7942Screenshot-7938

“Yea, I know. You’ve got all the high scores on every single one of these machines. There’s no beating the master.” Hawk admitted with a small laugh. I blushed a little, it was a little embarrassing that I took this so seriously.

“Well how about we play the table ones? That way we can play against each other.” I offered.

“Alright, but I bet you’re still gonna win.”

Screenshot-7947

We made our way over to one of the table games and started it up.

“Do you have to do any royal stuff today?” Hawk asked.

“I usually don’t know about the stuff until right before it happens. But hopefully I don’t, I’d rather play this all day.”  I pressed the buttons and made my character shoot his. “That royal stuff is so dumb.”

“Yea, it is. I wish you could go to regular school too, it would be a lot more fun with you there.” Hawk sighed. He went to the local public school while I had a private tutor who taught me everything I needed to know.

Screenshot-7949

“Me too. You’re really the only person I know my age. I’d like to have some other friends too.”

“Yea I wish you could play with my friends, they’re really cool.”

I was about to respond when the bedroom door flung open.

Screenshot-7953

“Clementine Fae, what on earth is going on in here?” My mom yelled. She looked like her face was gonna blow up, that’s how mad she was.

“Hawk and I are playing video games.” I responded calmly.

“Get out, now!” My mom screeched at my best friend. He looked terrified, and simply nodded before jumping up and running out of the room.

Screenshot-7956

“Mom!” I yelled at her, angry with how mean she was being.

“Oh Clementine, you should know by now that you’re too good for him.” My mom pouted.

Screenshot-7960

“No, that’s not true! We’re no better than anyone else. Why are you so stuck up?” I exploded. I knew I shouldn’t be talking to my mom like that, but she was just being so terrible.

“We are better than everyone else! We own them, dear. I am in charge here. You will not be hanging out with him anymore, I don’t want you to be influenced by him.”

“I need interaction with people my own age, Mom! He’s the only one I know. It’s not fair.”

“Fine. But your time together will be short and restricted.”

Screenshot-7963

I stomped my foot on the floor, making my mom look me over. “Clementine, what in the world are you wearing?” She looked as if she would pass out.

“This is what I’m comfortable in.” I retorted.

“You look hideous. You’re a girl, you should dress like one. I better not see you in this filth ever again.”

Screenshot-7970

“That’s not fair! The dresses you pick out for me are awful! I want to wear these clothes.”

“Oh Clementine, you’ll learn some taste as you grow up. You’ll thank me in the long run.” She smiled slyly, as if she knew me better than I knew myself.

“Yea right.” I pouted.

“I really don’t have time for this. Change into something else. I’ll have the nanny come get you for dinner in an hour.” She spun on her ridiculously high heels and walked out of my room.

Screenshot-7974

As soon as she was gone I climbed up on my bed and brought my knees to my chest. I didn’t even care that my shoes were getting dirt all over the bed. The bed was dumb and ugly anyway.

I hated my mom. I hated my life here. I was always being told what to do and how to act, I was never allowed to be myself. She was so controlling. I wished that Nutmeg was my mom, or that I lived with my real dad.

Aloe was just my step-dad. He hated me, it was pretty obvious. He’d only be near me for public appearances and then he’d get as far away from me as he possible could soon after. I always wondered what my real dad was like. Why wasn’t he here? Did he love me? Did he even know I existed?

I couldn’t help but fantasize about a better life with my real dad. I would do anything to get out of here.

Lake Fae Chapter 21: Finale

Screenshot-7844

My entire body ached. Every single part of it felt like it was on fire.

I couldn’t remember what happened at first. But after a few agonizing minutes, I remembered. The future. The drugs. The explosive. That’s why I hurt so bad.

Where was I? I tried to open my eyes but they wouldn’t budge. Was I dead? No, I could feel my body, I was pretty sure I was alive.

The more I woke up, the more aware of my surroundings I became. I heard soft chatter around me and a small, annoying beep every few seconds.

Screenshot-7846

Finally, I woke up enough to move. I pulled myself into an awkward sitting position, I had to pull my left leg up because for some reason it wasn’t moving. Must be the pain meds, they probably haven’t worn off yet.

“What’s going on?” I asked, as I looked around the hospital room.

Screenshot-7849

Everyone was here. Why? I was just knocked out, right?

“Oh Lake, baby, you’re awake.” Ginger leaned forward and pressed the nurse button on my bed.

“What’s going on?” I asked again.

“Do you remember what happened?” She asked softly.

“Yea kinda, am I ok?”

“Lake, the doctor is gonna see you soon. We’ll have him explain.” My dad chimed in.

Screenshot-7854

“How’re you feeling?” Allium asked, his voice full of concern.

“Tired, sore, kinda like I’m on fire.” I laughed slightly, but stopped when I felt a horrible pain from my stomach.

“We can have the nurse give you more pain meds.” Ginger softly put her hand over mine.

“How long have I been out?”

“Almost a week, babe. They had to do a few surgeries, but that’s done now.” Ginger explained.

“What? What even happened? I thought I was just knocked out.” I responded in disbelief.

Screenshot-7855

“You fucking idiot, you blew up my supply closet! Why would you do that?” Stone practically exploded with anger.

“W-what? No I didn’t. Stone, I blew up the time machine. Remember? You built it so we could try and save Skye.” I didn’t care that we were surrounded by everyone, I needed to explain myself.

“What are you talking about? I never built a time machine, Lake. That’s not possible.” Why was he lying? Why was he acting like it never happened?

“Stone, it’s ok, we can trust these people. We can talk about it in front of them.” I assured him.

“Dude, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“B-but I travelled to the future!”

“Lake, the thing you blew up was a supply closet, that’s it. I never built a time machine, you never travelled to the future.” Stone looked baffled, as if he really had no idea what I was talking about. “Do you think his head injury was more serious than we thought?” Stone turned to Thyme and expressed his concerns.

Screenshot-7856

My mind was swimming. I pulled my still numb legs up to my chest, that position always made me feel safer.

know I went to the future. It was all real, it wasn’t just a head injury. Stone had to be lying, he just had to be. It couldn’t all be a figment of my imagination, right? I’ve never been that imaginative, I couldn’t create an entire world of people!

But,

It wasn’t real.

I remembered now.

The time machine was a supply closet. Whenever I got upset, I’d sit in there and imagine I was in the future. Somehow, my mind convinced itself it was all real.

“No, no!” I screamed over and over.

“Get the doctor, he’s having some kind of breakdown!” Someone yelled, I wasn’t sure who though.

“It had to be real! I know it was real!” I screamed, as I watched the horrified faces of my family and friends. Ginger was crying, as was Stone.

Then, a nurse rushed in with a syringe and within seconds I was unconscious again.

————-

Screenshot-7860

“Hi Lake, I’m Doctor Ashburn.” A man’s voice was the first thing I heard as I came too. “How’re you feeling?”

“Tired, numb.” I responded curtly. I wasn’t in the mood to talk. My head hurt and I was still processing everything.

“Lake, we need to talk about your injuries. We’ll get to the other stuff later.” He was nice enough, but the way he spoke made me feel small. I didn’t like it. When I didn’t respond, he continued speaking. “You suffered a concussion when you fell backwards, and a flying piece of debris struck you in the stomach. Luckily your father was home and called 911 right away or else you would have bled out.”

“Oh, thats why my stomach hurts so bad.” I tried to joke but no one laughed.

“Lake, when the debris hit you, it almost severed you in half. We were able to save your life, and we were able to patch up your insides, but unfortunately, you’re paralyzed from the waist down.”

My stomach dropped. Part of me knew that was rational, I knew it was true. But the other part, the winning part, refused to believe it.

“No, I can walk just fine.”

Screenshot-7862

“Please Lake, don’t.” Ginger pleaded with me as I moved my body to the side of the bed.

“No, no, no, it’s ok. He’s wrong, I’m fine.” I smiled at her as I went to stand.

Screenshot-7863

Immediately, my useless legs gave out from under me and I fell forward.

“Fuck!” I yelled out as I landed harshly on my stomach.

“Oh my god.” Ginger started to cry again.

“Get me a nurse, we’ll help him into the chair.” Dr. Ashburn told one of my family members and within seconds I was being helped off the floor.

Screenshot-7864Screenshot-7867

“This is bullshit.” I buried my face in my hands. I felt like a child, I needed everyone’s help with everything and now here I was, crying in front of everyone.

“I’m sorry Lake, I know this is a lot to process. But we need you to learn how to use the chair now. Don’t worry, your wife will be here with you the whole time. She’ll learn how to help you the best she can.”

“M-my wife?” I asked, confused. “No, Ginger and I aren’t married. Yet.”

Screenshot-7866

“Oh god, he doesn’t remember.” I heard Ginger sob from behind me. My dad started crying too.

“Remember what?”

“Lake, baby, we got married last month. We did it in secret, the only person there was my best friend, Aloe. You remember him, don’t you babe?” Ginger sounded hysterical. But I could not for the life of me, remember this ‘Aloe.’

“I-I’m sorry hun. I don’t know him.”

“He’s here, I can bring him in. Maybe it’ll help jog your memory. Is that okay, doctor?”

“Please do.” Doctor Ashburn gestured to the door.

*Ginger*

Screenshot-7874

As soon as I left Lake’s hospital room, I dropped the concerned wife act. This was all so amazing, it wasn’t part of my plan but everything was falling perfectly into place.

“Hey Baby, I have the best news.”

Screenshot-7875

Aloe Pinson-Shorter sat in the waiting room patiently. He came as soon as he heard about the explosion, the two of us needed a way to use this to our advantage. Luckily, he came up with just the thing.

Screenshot-7879

“Hey Babe.” He approached me with a huge smile on his face.

“I take it everything went well? All the papers are in order?” I asked excitedly.

“Yup, you and Lake are now officially married. How are things on your end?”

“Even better than expected, he’s absolutely insane. Apparently he thinks the supply closet was a time machine, so he tried to blow it up. Now it’s way more believable that he doesn’t remember the ‘wedding.'” I giggled, it was almost too easy to fool this guy.

Screenshot-7878

“This is perfect. You said you think you’re pregnant with his child, yes?”

“Yup, my period is late. I think it’s happening.” I wanted to bounce off the walls with excitement.

“Oh babe, this is excellent. I managed to talk the FRO board into speeding up their plan. Lake’s family should be back into power within the next month, and you know he’s the heir to the throne. That mean’s you’re the queen.” He grabbed my arm softly, I loved when he used that word.

“And as long as I have his kid, there’s no way I’ll lose my position. Especially if he’s locked up in a mental ward his whole life. That can be arranged. Luckily, we have the whole hospital on our side.” We promised the entire staff a huge grant if they helped us get into the throne. They agreed to do anything we needed.

Screenshot-7881

“Soon, we’ll be in control of the entire Fae kingdom. All thanks to you, my queen.” He pulled me into a passionate kiss.

“I love you, Aloe.”

“I love you too, Ginger. But we should probably get into that room, they’re gonna get suspicious.”

————-

*Lake*

Screenshot-7883

“Lake, honey. This is Aloe, my best friend. Remember him?” Ginger came back in the room a few minutes later.

“Hi Lake, how are you?” The unfamiliar man spoke to me as if we knew each other.

“I-I don’t remember him.” He did look familiar, but that’s because he strongly resembled my mother. Same hair color, same skin color. That couldn’t be a coincidence.

“Are you sure? We are related, remember? We found out that our moms were cousins, Venus Pinson and Jasmine Fae.” He smiled slightly.

“That is my mom’s name, but I don’t recognise the other one.”

Screenshot-7884

“I do.” My dad said from behind me. “I never knew her, but Jazz talked about her a lot. They used to be really close, then Jasmine found out Venus married her ex. She was not happy about that.” My dad sounded really sad, but it was the most I’ve ever heard him say about my mother.

“I-I don’t remember any of this.” I admitted. Maybe that head injury was really bad.

“That’s ok Lake, we’ll work on getting your memory back.” Doctor Ashburn assured me.

Screenshot-7886

“Doctor, I just got in touch with the psychologist.” A nurse walked in and quietly spoke to the doctor.

“And?”

“She says that based on your report, we should immediately send him to a mental health facility to be evaluated. She thinks he may need permanent institutionalization.”

Screenshot-7885

“What? I’m gonna be locked in an asylum for the rest of my life? I’m too young for this! I’m only twenty-three!” I started to panic, the thought of being in a hospital for the next eighty or so years was absolutely terrifying.

“Lake, this isn’t for sure. It’s just a possibility. We need to get you evaluated first.”

The entire room was silent except for the soft sobs of my family and friends. No one knew what to say or how to react.

Screenshot-7890

I was insane and paralyzed. I’d never have a normal life again.

If you have any questions, for me or any of the characters, shoot me an ask here! I’ll gladly answer anything you need, unless it’s a spoiler for the next generation.

Lake Fae Chapter 20: Cause and Effect

Screenshot-7771

“Geez.” I shook myself off after coming out of the machine. I had forgotten how uncomfortable the feeling of time travel was. Every time it felt like I was in a hurricane and there was something heavy on my chest. It was not a good feeling.

Screenshot-7774

“Hello?” I called out, noticing that my friends were nowhere to be found. I glanced around the area, but I was all alone here.

“What the hell…” I muttered to myself as I noticed how different everything looked.

Screenshot-7776

The sky was no longer bright blue, but a dark, foggy green. Everything was dull and rusty, unlike the bright, shiny chrome it used to be. The more I looked around, the more I noticed. The ground had huge cracks in it, it looked as if things were falling from the sky.

“How did this happen?” I whispered to myself in disbelief. How could things change so much in a year?

Screenshot-7777

“Hello?” I called out again, this time inside the building.

“Hey baby, we’re in here.” A familiar woman’s voice called from my left.

Screenshot-7778

“Guys?” I approached one of the rec areas and saw my friends. Or, what was left of them. They looked awful. Their clothes were old and dirty, they looked like they hadn’t showered in weeks, and they all looked like they were coming down from a heroin high.

Screenshot-7779

“Oh, you’re not the dealer.” Lyra scoffed and rolled her eyes. She lazily took a puff from the joint in her hand. “You shouldn’t have come back here.”

“What? Why.”

Screenshot-7785

“Why? Are you fucking kidding me? Look around, asshole! Look what you’ve done to this place! You ruined everything.” Canis yelled angrily.

“What? How is this my fault?”

“The drugs! You left them here, everyone’s addicted now and the world is shit. It’s all your fucking fault!” He screamed, and jumped up off the couch.

Screenshot-7791

Before I could react, his fist connected with my face and sent my flying to the ground.

Screenshot-7795

“What the hell man, I didn’t fuck things up on purpose!” I defended myself from my spot on the floor.

“What were you trying to do then?” He seethed.

“I was just trying to get you guys to have a little fun. I didn’t think you guys had access to any more drugs, so when those ran out I thought you’d be done! And I was messed up back then, but I’m clean now.”

“Thanks for rubbing it in, asshole.” Canis looked as if he were about to hit me again.

“Canis, calm down.” Andromeda pleaded, her voice hoarse and tired, nothing like the exuberant person I used to know. “Lake, sit, we’ll explain everything.”

Screenshot-7801

As I took a seat, I couldn’t help but notice the extensive stash they had laid out on their table. They had weed, heroin, prescription drugs I couldn’t see the names of, and a few baggies of cocaine. Though I’d been clean for a while, it was hard for me. I still craved the highs, and being so close to these drugs probably wasn’t good.

“W-what’s going on?” I asked shakily, tearing my eyes away from the stash and focusing on Andromeda.

Screenshot-7781

“Well, after you left we used up the rest of your stash. But we wanted more, so we sent Orion back to your time to try and get some more. He met a dealer, and ever since then the guy comes once a week to drop off more stuff. Lyra usually gives him his payment.” She motioned towards the vampire on the pool table. Now I understood why she was dressed that way and called me baby…

“Who’s your dealer?” I asked, I knew all the dealers in Appaloosa Plains.

“We don’t know his real name. But he calls himself Ninja.”

“Huh, I don’t know him.” I was puzzled. He must be a new dealer or a guy from out of town.

Screenshot-7782

“We need you to do us a favor, Lake. We can’t keep living like this. But we can’t stop on our own.” Orion slurred slightly.

“Of course guys, whatever you need I can help.” I owed it to them, I got them into this mess.

“We need you to blow up your time machine.”

Screenshot-7800

“What? I can’t do that. That would set my dad’s house on fire, and I’d never be able to see you guys again.” The thought of blowing up the machine made me sick. I loved time travel; I couldn’t just give it up like that.

“Please Lake, it’s the only way.” Andromeda begged. “If we keep going like this, the entire planet will get destroyed. We need this.”

“I-I don’t know. I don’t even have anything to blow it up with.”

“I have an explosive. I would’ve done it myself but I would’ve gotten stuck there.” Orion explained.

Screenshot-7797

“Please Lake, look at Ursa.” Canis motioned towards his unconscious wife. “She’s never awake anymore. She just wakes up, gets high and passes out. I don’t know what to do.” He looked as if he were about to cry.

“Okay, I’ll do it. But can I say goodbye to Seven first? Where is she?” I asked, noticing my robot wasn’t around.

“Sure, she’s downstairs. She’s been powered down for a while though, so theres really no telling what she’ll be like.” Orion offered.

“That’s ok, I just need to see her.”

————

Screenshot-7807

“Seven?” I cautiously approached her so I wouldn’t scare her. If you could even scare a robot… I wasn’t sure, so better safe than sorry.

“Master?” She asked as she sprung to life.

“Hey Seven, it’s me!” I exclaimed.

Screenshot-7814

“I warned you. I told you that was a bad idea. Look at the world now.” She scolded.

“I know, and I’m gonna make it right. I’m gonna blow up the time machine. I just wanted to say goodbye to you first.”

“Good. That will fix things.”

Screenshot-7818

“I’m glad. I’m sorry I messed things up so badly. And I’m sorry I have to leave you here, but once the group gets clean I know they’ll take good care of you.”

“Yes, Master. I will miss you.”

“I’ll miss you too.” I kind of felt like I wanted to cry, but I wouldn’t let myself. Not yet, not until I got home.

“Goodbye Master.”

“Goodbye Seven.” I gave her a pat on her cold, metal shoulder and headed for the stairs without looking back.

———–

Screenshot-7820

“I’m sorry the others aren’t here to see you off.” Andromeda apologized as I got ready to leave the future for the last time. The others were either too high or too pissed off to come say goodbye.

“That’s ok, maybe its for the best.” I responded sadly. I hated that things had to end on such bad terms.

Screenshot-7822

“I’m really sorry for all the damage I caused. I promise I’ll fix this.” I carefully placed the explosive in my pocket. My heart sped up, I really hoped this thing wouldn’t go off on its own.

“Thank you, Lake.” Orion smiled slightly. I nodded, before preparing myself for time travel, for the very last time.

Screenshot-7827

After punching numbers into the machine, I turned to them and gave them one last wave. They waved back with small smiles.

The doors of the machine opened and soon I was jumping towards that familiar purple light.

————-

Screenshot-7829

“Bye.” I said softly to myself as I arrived back at home. My heart hurt, ever since I was little I loved robots and futuristic things, now I had to give all that up. But I messed up, and I needed to fix this. I couldn’t be selfish this time.

Screenshot-7834

But could I do this? I wasn’t sure if I had it in me. Now that the task was right here in front of me, I didn’t know if I could go through with it. Could I really destroy my brother’s work? How would I explain this to my dad?

No, I had to stop making excuses for myself. I had to do this now, I’d deal with the consequences later.

Screenshot-7838

Slowly I pulled the explosive out of my pocket. Orion had briefly showed me how to use it, and I quickly followed his instructions, threw the device on top of the machine and ran for cover.

Screenshot-7840

I covered my ears and waited for the blast. As much as I didn’t want to destroy the portal to the future, I was kind of excited to see an actual explosion.

Screenshot-7842

Within seconds, the detonator went off and the entire machine exploded and quickly burst into flames Debris was flying from the machine and all over the small garage.

Screenshot-7843

The blast was so strong it sent me flying backwards into the trash. I watched as a large piece of metal came flying at me, but right before it hit me, my vision went black.

A/N: Next chapter is Lake’s finale 🙂

Lake Fae Chapter 19: Weird Love

Screenshot-7734

The next morning Ginger and I woke up and had a little fun. Afterwords, the two of us laid quietly, it was a comfortable silence. The kind of silence between two people who really understand each other. I loved that we had that, she really was special.

Screenshot-7730

“So what’re you getting up to today?” Ginger asked sleepily. I was hoping she wouldn’t ask that, I really hated lying to her. Well, technically I wouldn’t be lying, but I’d be leaving out most of the story. I didn’t like that either.

“I’m gonna go visit my dad, actually.” I responded casually.

“Oh? Why, is everything ok?” I didn’t visit my dad often, so of course she would find it odd that I randomly decided to go over there.

“Yea, I just wanna check up on him. I also wanna dig through some of the stuff in the garage, see if I can find any of my old things.”

“Oh ok, do you want me to come with you?”

Screenshot-7732

“That’s ok babe, I know you have campaign stuff to do. And I doubt you’d like digging through a bunch of trash.” I laughed, hoping she wouldn’t insist on coming with.

“You’re right.” She giggled. “I just wanted to offer and be nice.”

“Thanks love. But I’ll be fine.” I kissed the back of her head, silently thanking whatever god existed for such an amazing girlfriend.

Screenshot-7738

“But if you need me, call me. I know it’ll be hard for you.” She turned over and grabbed my hand, giving me a reassuring squeeze.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Babe, some of that stuff belonged to your sister. I know it’ll be hard for you to see that.” She frowned slightly.

“I know.” I breathed shakily. I almost forgot some of her stuff was there too. My stomach turned, as it did every time I thought about her. I still felt guilty for not going back to save her.

Screenshot-7736

“I’ll just be a phone call away. I can be there in five minutes.” She smiled softly, making my heart flutter. I was so lucky.

“Thank you, I couldn’t ask for a better girlfriend.” I kissed her softly on the lips. “I love you.”

“I love you too. I’ve got to get ready to leave, but I need to make a call first. Campaign stuff. You know how it is.”

“Yea of course. Just make sure to kiss me goodbye before you leave.”

“Will do.” She smiled and pulled herself out of bed, grabbing her phone before quickly hurrying out of the room.

———-

*Ginger*

Screenshot-7739

I stepped out of that shitty apartment and immediately pressed call on the number of his current burner phone.

“Hello?” His gruff voice called out from the other line.

“Hey baby, it’s me.” I responded quietly, in case the boys were eavesdropping.

“Oh hey, how are things going on your end?”

Screenshot-7744

“Perfectly, he’s totally in love with me. Every part of our plan is falling perfectly into place. I wouldn’t doubt it if he proposed to me tomorrow.” I laughed, and so did the voice on the other end.

“Wonderful. You have to be married to him at least a year before we can take any further action.”

“I know, I know. As soon as he proposes, I’ll suggest a quick wedding. I’ll tell him I just can’t wait to be his wife.” I laughed, knowing that sucker will eat it all up.

“Perfect.”

“How are things going on your end, do you know when things will be back in action?” I asked vaguely, just incase someone was listening. I couldn’t risk this getting out.

Screenshot-7746

“Well, the current F.R.O. leader thinks it should happen within a few months.” He whispered.

“Hopefully we’ll be married by then, with a kid on the way, that way we can set our plan into action as soon as possible.”

“Try to be, maybe start dropping hints.”

“Great idea. I’ll start as soon as possible. I’ve gotta go, he always wants me to kiss him goodbye.” I rolled my eyes. It was obnoxious, I honestly couldn’t stand him, but it would be worth it in the end.

“Alright, this’ll all be over soon. I love you.”

“I know. I love you too.” I ended the call and took a deep breath. It was hard pretending to love someone you can’t stand, but I knew it would be worth it. Aloe and I would finally get the life we deserved.

*Lake*

Screenshot-7748

My father’s house was a modest little one bedroom in the suburbs of Bridgeport. I felt a little bad that he lived alone, I tried suggesting he get a dog or something but he refused. He told me he didn’t mind being alone but I knew that was a lie. It was obvious he was lonely, and I knew he would never date again after my mother. But I can’t control him, so I try to be there for him whenever I can.

I had my own set of keys to the house, so I just let myself in. Before I came over I sent my dad a text, letting him know I’d be coming so he wouldn’t think I was an intruder.

“Dad?” I called out into the small house.

“Hey, I’ll be right out!” He called from his bedroom.

Screenshot-7750

He came out about a minute later, and surprisingly he looked a lot better than he has in years. Maybe living alone was actually good for him…

“How are you son?” He smiled brightly at me.

“I’m doing great Dad, things are going great between Ginger and I.”

“That’s great to hear. When will you be popping the question?” He winked, making me blush slightly.

Screenshot-7752

“I’ve actually been saving up all my tips, I’m planning on surprising her with a trip to Paris and proposing there.”

“That’s a fantastic idea! She’s gonna love that.”

“I hope so. I really wanna make it special.” I felt a little embarrassed about being so sappy, but I couldn’t help it. I loved her so much.

“That will definitely be special, there’s no way she can say no.” He chuckled. “By the way, I better get some grandkids out of you, you know your brother won’t have any kids.”

“You never know, Thyme might just convince him.” I laughed, my brother was very opposed to having kids, he said he was way too busy with his job to be a parent.

“Maybe, but I want at least one.”

“Don’t worry Dad, you’ll get some.” I winked, I was hoping Ginger and I could start having kids right away.

“Alright,” He laughed, then shooed me out of the room. “Now go look through the garage, I know you have other things to do today. Be careful in there.”

“I will.”

Screenshot-7758

I made my way through his kitchen and into the garage, I’d never been in the garage at this house before, and I was a little shocked at how dirty it was already.

Screenshot-7759

On one side, there was just piles of old trash and boxes, and the other was where all the stuff from the old house was.

Screenshot-7762

The time machine was right next to the door. I couldn’t help but wonder what my dad thought of this. Did he know what it was? Did he ever try and use it? Or did he just ignore it, thinking it was just one of Stone’s weird inventions? I didn’t want to ask.

I stared up at it excitedly, I couldn’t wait to see how my friends were doing. Part of me wanted to bring Seven back with me, but I knew that was impractical. How would I get her out of here? Where would I keep her? I’d just have to leave her there and visit when I could.

Screenshot-7764

Enough stalling! I told myself. It’s time to get going. I pressed the familiar numbers into the machine and waited as the gears started turning.

Screenshot-7766

For a moment, I thought it wasn’t working anymore. But after a few agonizing seconds, the doors opened and the bright, purple light lit up the garage.

“Bingo!” I whispered to myself, before jumping into the light.
