Thorn Fae Chapter 16: New Meetings, Old Feelings

“Goodnight my love.” I cooed at my son. Hawk had picked up a crib from the secondhand store a few days ago, and I was extremely grateful. It felt nice to have actual baby things for my baby. The whole father thing was getting easier, it was a huge adjustment but I was getting the hang of it.

As I put Aspen down for the night, Hawk entered the room apprehensively. “Uh, hey Thorn, can we talk?” He asked.

My heart jumped into my throat. Was he going to ask us to leave? Were we too much of a burden? Could he not stand to have us around anymore? My mind was racing and my anxiety was spiking. “Sure, what’s up?” I tried to act as cool as possible, I wanted to keep a little bit of my dignity.

“You might want to sit down for this.” He gestured to the bed, and I took his advice.

“What’s up?” I asked as soon as I got comfortable.

“Well, I wanted to wait until you got settled and comfortable here before I told you this.” He looked nervous.

“What is it?”

“I found your father.” He told me. “When I moved here last year, I heard a rumor that he lived here and I managed to track him down. I’ve been talking to him, I’ve even gone to visit him a few times. I’ve told him all about you.”

“Oh my god. Oh my god, he’s alive?” I asked, half-shocked and half-excited. My dad was alive, and in Bridgeport! I was right!

“He said the same thing about you, when I told him I found you.” He chuckled.

“D-does he know I’m trans?”

“He does, I hope that it’s okay that I told him.” He rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “You’ve never been shy about it so I figured it was okay.”

“It’s perfectly okay, I’m not hiding anything. But…” I hesitated, unsure of whether or not I wanted the answer to this question. “Does he accept it? Does he want to meet me?”

“He’s absolutely thrilled to have a son, and he would love to meet you.” Hawk told me, trying to suppress a smile. “He’s a very cool, accepting dude. He has absolutely no issues with it.”

“Oh my god.” I said again, I felt like I was dreaming, like my wildest fantasies about my father were coming true.

“He wants to meet you, if you want to meet him.”

“Absolutely, I’ve been waiting for this my whole life.” I nearly started to cry, I never thought this day would come.

“Well, I’ll go call him. Maybe I can set something up for the morning.”

“Thank you. Thank you so much, Hawk. I can’t believe this. This is the greatest thing anyone has ever done for me.” I was so overwhelmed with emotion, I felt like I was rambling. But I didn’t know what else to say. How do you thank someone for bringing your long lost father back to you?

“You mean the world to me, Thorn. I want to do whatever I can for you. I’ll go call him right now.” He smiled, pulled out his phone, and left the room.

It was possible that in less than twenty-four hours, I’d be meeting my biological father. It was so surreal. I had no idea what to expect, or what to think.

I was nervous, excited, and scared all at the same time.

The next morning, Hawk drove us to the house my father lived in. It was a large house, two stories and it looked very nice. My father seemed to be doing pretty well for himself.

Now that I was here, my heart was pounding. What do I talk about? What do I say? My life wasn’t exactly the nicest, I doubt he’d want to hear such depressing things. Do I ask him about his life? What if he doesn’t want to talk about it?

“It’s okay, you’re gonna do fine.” Hawk reassured me. He knew me so well he could tell when I was starting to freak out.

“I hope so.” I took a deep breath. On the other side of that door was my father…

“Ready?” Hawk smiled at me reassuringly.

“Ready.” I reached up and knocked on the door, and instantly it swung open.

“Oh my gosh, hi! Come in.”

A bright, cheery older woman quickly ushered us inside. I recognized her, she was the woman I found on social media. I was right, she did know my father.

Behind her, the man I assumed to be my father rolled up in a wheelchair. He looked the same age as my mother, though a little more worn down. He looked a lot like me. Same skin tone, same eye color, same wing color. He was without a doubt my father.

There was a man standing next to him, who looked older and way more worn out than either Honey or my father. He had the same skin tone and hair color as me, there was no doubt in my mind that we were related.

“Hi.” I said shyly. “I’m Thorn.”

“Oh Thorn, we’re so excited to finally meet you.” Come, lets all sit.” Honey gestured for us to follow her.

We all took a seat in the livingroom, and I glanced around awkwardly. I didn’t know what to say, I was a little overwhelmed.

“I’m so happy to finally meet you, son.” My father told me, it was the very first thing I’d ever heard him say. I started to cry slightly.

“I’m so happy to finally meet you too, dad.” I had been waiting my entire life to tell him that.

“I want you to know that I didn’t abandon you. I didn’t have a choice, your mother…” He trailed off.

“She’s a complete garbage person, I know. You don’t have to censor yourself around me.” I chuckled.

“She had me committed to a mental institution. I mean, I did have a psychotic break, but she made it incredibly difficult for me to get out of there. She practically made it impossible for me to get the help I needed.” He sighed. “My dad,” He gestured to the man in the chair next to Hawk, “He had to spend a lot of time and money to get me out of there.”

“Well worth it, though.” The man who was just revealed to be my grandfather smiled. “I’d do anything to get my son back.” He beamed at my father, I could tell he really cared for him. “I’m your grandfather by the way, I’m so incredibly excited to meet you.” He smiled at me.

“Me too.” I smiled back at him.

“I didn’t even know you existed for a long time. I didn’t know she was pregnant when I had my accident. I wish I would’ve known, maybe things would’ve been different.”

“I don’t blame you. I never have. I’ve always known my mother was a bad person, I always figured she had something to do with it. I’m sorry she put you through that, you didn’t deserve it.”

“Thank you. I can’t imagine the hell she’s put you through either. I’m sorry.” He looked down at his lap sadly.

“It’s okay, she’s out of my life now. And you’re in it. So that’s a damn good step in the right direction.” I smiled at him. I was so full of happiness, none of what happened with my mother even mattered anymore.

“That’s such a great thing, Thorn. I’m so happy you’re here.” Honey chimed in from across from me.

“When I first met Lake, all he could talk about was that he had kid out there that he’d never met, and all he wanted to do was meet them. But when we heard you went missing, he was so terrified he’d never get the chance to meet you. And when we met Hawk here, he helped your dad so much. None of us knew if you were alive or not, so the best we had was the stories Hawk told us about your life. And boy, did he have a lot of stories! This kid is very fond of you.” Honey laughed, and I could see Hawk starting to blush.

“When Hawk called us and told us he found you alive, Honey and I couldn’t believe it. I’ve never been so happy in my life.” My dad told me.

“Me too. I mean, when he told me you were alive, accepted me, and wanted to meet me.”

“Well of course I accept you, how could I not? You’re my son.” He furrowed his eyebrows.

“Well my mother didn’t.” I sighed.

“Ah, I wondered why she kept calling you by your old name on the television. I’m not surprised, she really is a wicked woman.” My grandfather chimed in.

“At least some good came from her not accepting me. She’s been dethroned because of my absence.” I laughed.

“That is a good thing. My brother is a much better king than her or Aloe could ever be.” My father smiled, but it dropped a few seconds later. “Where did you go?”

“Um, I was homeless, living in a park with other trans kids.” I looked down at my hands, I could feel my face getting hot.

“And where are they now?” Honey asked apprehensively.

“Dead.”

“Can I hug you?” Honey asked, with tears welling up in her eyes. I nodded, and she jumped up. “I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine what you’ve been through. But you’re safe now. Both of you. Hawk told us about your son. You’re both safe. You have your family now, and we’re going to take care of you.” She comforted me in a hushed tone.

“Thank you.” I managed to say, despite the fact I was fighting to keep myself from crying.

“Of course.” She squeezed me tightly. “I want to meet this son of yours. Next time you come here, he better be with you.” She laughed and pulled away.

“Absolutely. I’d love that.” I beamed at the idea of having such a personal relationship with my family. It was what I always dreamed of.

“Speaking of Aspen, we should probably head out soon. I don’t want to leave him with the sitter for too long.” Hawk chimed in. He’d been worried about leaving the baby with a sitter. He didn’t trust anyone else with my son, it was cute.

“Ah, okay.” I sighed, slightly disappointed. It felt like we’d just gotten there.

“Thank you for bringing him to us, Hawk. You’re right, he is absolutely amazing.” Honey smiled at both of us. He started to blush even harder than earlier, and consequently I started to blush as well.

“Of course.”

I let go of Honey and walked over to my father. “I’ve been dreaming about meeting you since I was a kid. I’m so happy we finally got to meet. I’m looking forward to getting to know you better. I’m so excited to finally have you in my life after all these years.”

“Thorn, I’ve been dreaming about this too. You’re so much better than I could’ve ever imagined. You’re so handsome, so strong. I can’t wait to get to know you and your son. Please come back soon.” My father smiled up at me.

I bent over to give him a kiss on the cheek. “I’ll be back soon, I promise.”

“I love you, son.”

“I love you too, Dad.”

As soon as Hawk and I left the house, I threw my arms around him. “I don’t even know how to thank you for this. You’ve given me such an incredible gift, you gave me a family. I don’t know how to repay you.”

“You don’t ever have to repay me. Your happiness is payment enough. All I’ve ever wanted is for you to be happy. I’m glad I could make that happen for you.” Hawk rubbed my back comfortingly.

“Thank you.”

“Hey, so Aspen is finally down for the night.” I came out of the bedroom exhausted. He didn’t seem to like the sitter, and he’d spent a few hours screaming about it. It took forever, but eventually I was able to get him to sleep. “I just want to thank you again, Hawk. You gave me such an incredible gift today.”

“Thorn, you don’t have to keep thanking me. It’s my pleasure.”

“I care about you so much, Thorn. I always have.” He sighed.

“I’ve always cared about you too. You’ve always been my best friend.” I smiled at him. He looked so pained, I couldn’t figure out why.

“I know. But I’ve always cared about you differently, Thorn. You know that.”

“What do you mean?” I asked, my face starting to get hot again. Suddenly I remembered the moment by the pool, shortly before I ran away. When he told me he was in love with me.

“I know you’ve been through a lot recently, with losing your boyfriend. And I’m not trying to pressure you into anything by saying this. I just needed you to know, since you’re still alive and you’re here.” He took a deep breath. “I’ve always been in love with you, Thorn. Always. Ever since we were little kids. I’ve always known I liked boys, and I’ve always known that you were the boy that I liked. Those feelings have never gone away. I don’t think they’re ever going to go away, even if I wanted them too. But I don’t want them to. I love you, Thorn Fae. And that’s never going to change.” He took another deep breath. “I don’t expect you to love me back, especially not now. I just needed you to know.”

Well, shit.

Lake Fae Chapter 21: Finale

Screenshot-7844

My entire body ached. Every single part of it felt like it was on fire.

I couldn’t remember what happened at first. But after a few agonizing minutes, I remembered. The future. The drugs. The explosive. That’s why I hurt so bad.

Where was I? I tried to open my eyes but they wouldn’t budge. Was I dead? No, I could feel my body, I was pretty sure I was alive.

The more I woke up, the more aware of my surroundings I became. I heard soft chatter around me and a small, annoying beep every few seconds.

Screenshot-7846

Finally, I woke up enough to move. I pulled myself into an awkward sitting position, I had to pull my left leg up because for some reason it wasn’t moving. Must be the pain meds, they probably haven’t worn off yet.

“What’s going on?” I asked, as I looked around the hospital room.

Screenshot-7849

Everyone was here. Why? I was just knocked out, right?

“Oh Lake, baby, you’re awake.” Ginger leaned forward and pressed the nurse button on my bed.

“What’s going on?” I asked again.

“Do you remember what happened?” She asked softly.

“Yea kinda, am I ok?”

“Lake, the doctor is gonna see you soon. We’ll have him explain.” My dad chimed in.

Screenshot-7854

“How’re you feeling?” Allium asked, his voice full of concern.

“Tired, sore, kinda like I’m on fire.” I laughed slightly, but stopped when I felt a horrible pain from my stomach.

“We can have the nurse give you more pain meds.” Ginger softly put her hand over mine.

“How long have I been out?”

“Almost a week, babe. They had to do a few surgeries, but that’s done now.” Ginger explained.

“What? What even happened? I thought I was just knocked out.” I responded in disbelief.

Screenshot-7855

“You fucking idiot, you blew up my supply closet! Why would you do that?” Stone practically exploded with anger.

“W-what? No I didn’t. Stone, I blew up the time machine. Remember? You built it so we could try and save Skye.” I didn’t care that we were surrounded by everyone, I needed to explain myself.

“What are you talking about? I never built a time machine, Lake. That’s not possible.” Why was he lying? Why was he acting like it never happened?

“Stone, it’s ok, we can trust these people. We can talk about it in front of them.” I assured him.

“Dude, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“B-but I travelled to the future!”

“Lake, the thing you blew up was a supply closet, that’s it. I never built a time machine, you never travelled to the future.” Stone looked baffled, as if he really had no idea what I was talking about. “Do you think his head injury was more serious than we thought?” Stone turned to Thyme and expressed his concerns.

Screenshot-7856

My mind was swimming. I pulled my still numb legs up to my chest, that position always made me feel safer.

know I went to the future. It was all real, it wasn’t just a head injury. Stone had to be lying, he just had to be. It couldn’t all be a figment of my imagination, right? I’ve never been that imaginative, I couldn’t create an entire world of people!

But,

It wasn’t real.

I remembered now.

The time machine was a supply closet. Whenever I got upset, I’d sit in there and imagine I was in the future. Somehow, my mind convinced itself it was all real.

“No, no!” I screamed over and over.

“Get the doctor, he’s having some kind of breakdown!” Someone yelled, I wasn’t sure who though.

“It had to be real! I know it was real!” I screamed, as I watched the horrified faces of my family and friends. Ginger was crying, as was Stone.

Then, a nurse rushed in with a syringe and within seconds I was unconscious again.

————-

Screenshot-7860

“Hi Lake, I’m Doctor Ashburn.” A man’s voice was the first thing I heard as I came too. “How’re you feeling?”

“Tired, numb.” I responded curtly. I wasn’t in the mood to talk. My head hurt and I was still processing everything.

“Lake, we need to talk about your injuries. We’ll get to the other stuff later.” He was nice enough, but the way he spoke made me feel small. I didn’t like it. When I didn’t respond, he continued speaking. “You suffered a concussion when you fell backwards, and a flying piece of debris struck you in the stomach. Luckily your father was home and called 911 right away or else you would have bled out.”

“Oh, thats why my stomach hurts so bad.” I tried to joke but no one laughed.

“Lake, when the debris hit you, it almost severed you in half. We were able to save your life, and we were able to patch up your insides, but unfortunately, you’re paralyzed from the waist down.”

My stomach dropped. Part of me knew that was rational, I knew it was true. But the other part, the winning part, refused to believe it.

“No, I can walk just fine.”

Screenshot-7862

“Please Lake, don’t.” Ginger pleaded with me as I moved my body to the side of the bed.

“No, no, no, it’s ok. He’s wrong, I’m fine.” I smiled at her as I went to stand.

Screenshot-7863

Immediately, my useless legs gave out from under me and I fell forward.

“Fuck!” I yelled out as I landed harshly on my stomach.

“Oh my god.” Ginger started to cry again.

“Get me a nurse, we’ll help him into the chair.” Dr. Ashburn told one of my family members and within seconds I was being helped off the floor.

Screenshot-7864Screenshot-7867

“This is bullshit.” I buried my face in my hands. I felt like a child, I needed everyone’s help with everything and now here I was, crying in front of everyone.

“I’m sorry Lake, I know this is a lot to process. But we need you to learn how to use the chair now. Don’t worry, your wife will be here with you the whole time. She’ll learn how to help you the best she can.”

“M-my wife?” I asked, confused. “No, Ginger and I aren’t married. Yet.”

Screenshot-7866

“Oh god, he doesn’t remember.” I heard Ginger sob from behind me. My dad started crying too.

“Remember what?”

“Lake, baby, we got married last month. We did it in secret, the only person there was my best friend, Aloe. You remember him, don’t you babe?” Ginger sounded hysterical. But I could not for the life of me, remember this ‘Aloe.’

“I-I’m sorry hun. I don’t know him.”

“He’s here, I can bring him in. Maybe it’ll help jog your memory. Is that okay, doctor?”

“Please do.” Doctor Ashburn gestured to the door.

*Ginger*

Screenshot-7874

As soon as I left Lake’s hospital room, I dropped the concerned wife act. This was all so amazing, it wasn’t part of my plan but everything was falling perfectly into place.

“Hey Baby, I have the best news.”

Screenshot-7875

Aloe Pinson-Shorter sat in the waiting room patiently. He came as soon as he heard about the explosion, the two of us needed a way to use this to our advantage. Luckily, he came up with just the thing.

Screenshot-7879

“Hey Babe.” He approached me with a huge smile on his face.

“I take it everything went well? All the papers are in order?” I asked excitedly.

“Yup, you and Lake are now officially married. How are things on your end?”

“Even better than expected, he’s absolutely insane. Apparently he thinks the supply closet was a time machine, so he tried to blow it up. Now it’s way more believable that he doesn’t remember the ‘wedding.'” I giggled, it was almost too easy to fool this guy.

Screenshot-7878

“This is perfect. You said you think you’re pregnant with his child, yes?”

“Yup, my period is late. I think it’s happening.” I wanted to bounce off the walls with excitement.

“Oh babe, this is excellent. I managed to talk the FRO board into speeding up their plan. Lake’s family should be back into power within the next month, and you know he’s the heir to the throne. That mean’s you’re the queen.” He grabbed my arm softly, I loved when he used that word.

“And as long as I have his kid, there’s no way I’ll lose my position. Especially if he’s locked up in a mental ward his whole life. That can be arranged. Luckily, we have the whole hospital on our side.” We promised the entire staff a huge grant if they helped us get into the throne. They agreed to do anything we needed.

Screenshot-7881

“Soon, we’ll be in control of the entire Fae kingdom. All thanks to you, my queen.” He pulled me into a passionate kiss.

“I love you, Aloe.”

“I love you too, Ginger. But we should probably get into that room, they’re gonna get suspicious.”

————-

*Lake*

Screenshot-7883

“Lake, honey. This is Aloe, my best friend. Remember him?” Ginger came back in the room a few minutes later.

“Hi Lake, how are you?” The unfamiliar man spoke to me as if we knew each other.

“I-I don’t remember him.” He did look familiar, but that’s because he strongly resembled my mother. Same hair color, same skin color. That couldn’t be a coincidence.

“Are you sure? We are related, remember? We found out that our moms were cousins, Venus Pinson and Jasmine Fae.” He smiled slightly.

“That is my mom’s name, but I don’t recognise the other one.”

Screenshot-7884

“I do.” My dad said from behind me. “I never knew her, but Jazz talked about her a lot. They used to be really close, then Jasmine found out Venus married her ex. She was not happy about that.” My dad sounded really sad, but it was the most I’ve ever heard him say about my mother.

“I-I don’t remember any of this.” I admitted. Maybe that head injury was really bad.

“That’s ok Lake, we’ll work on getting your memory back.” Doctor Ashburn assured me.

Screenshot-7886

“Doctor, I just got in touch with the psychologist.” A nurse walked in and quietly spoke to the doctor.

“And?”

“She says that based on your report, we should immediately send him to a mental health facility to be evaluated. She thinks he may need permanent institutionalization.”

Screenshot-7885

“What? I’m gonna be locked in an asylum for the rest of my life? I’m too young for this! I’m only twenty-three!” I started to panic, the thought of being in a hospital for the next eighty or so years was absolutely terrifying.

“Lake, this isn’t for sure. It’s just a possibility. We need to get you evaluated first.”

The entire room was silent except for the soft sobs of my family and friends. No one knew what to say or how to react.

Screenshot-7890

I was insane and paralyzed. I’d never have a normal life again.

If you have any questions, for me or any of the characters, shoot me an ask here! I’ll gladly answer anything you need, unless it’s a spoiler for the next generation.

Lake Fae Chapter 19: Weird Love

Screenshot-7734

The next morning Ginger and I woke up and had a little fun. Afterwords, the two of us laid quietly, it was a comfortable silence. The kind of silence between two people who really understand each other. I loved that we had that, she really was special.

Screenshot-7730

“So what’re you getting up to today?” Ginger asked sleepily. I was hoping she wouldn’t ask that, I really hated lying to her. Well, technically I wouldn’t be lying, but I’d be leaving out most of the story. I didn’t like that either.

“I’m gonna go visit my dad, actually.” I responded casually.

“Oh? Why, is everything ok?” I didn’t visit my dad often, so of course she would find it odd that I randomly decided to go over there.

“Yea, I just wanna check up on him. I also wanna dig through some of the stuff in the garage, see if I can find any of my old things.”

“Oh ok, do you want me to come with you?”

Screenshot-7732

“That’s ok babe, I know you have campaign stuff to do. And I doubt you’d like digging through a bunch of trash.” I laughed, hoping she wouldn’t insist on coming with.

“You’re right.” She giggled. “I just wanted to offer and be nice.”

“Thanks love. But I’ll be fine.” I kissed the back of her head, silently thanking whatever god existed for such an amazing girlfriend.

Screenshot-7738

“But if you need me, call me. I know it’ll be hard for you.” She turned over and grabbed my hand, giving me a reassuring squeeze.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Babe, some of that stuff belonged to your sister. I know it’ll be hard for you to see that.” She frowned slightly.

“I know.” I breathed shakily. I almost forgot some of her stuff was there too. My stomach turned, as it did every time I thought about her. I still felt guilty for not going back to save her.

Screenshot-7736

“I’ll just be a phone call away. I can be there in five minutes.” She smiled softly, making my heart flutter. I was so lucky.

“Thank you, I couldn’t ask for a better girlfriend.” I kissed her softly on the lips. “I love you.”

“I love you too. I’ve got to get ready to leave, but I need to make a call first. Campaign stuff. You know how it is.”

“Yea of course. Just make sure to kiss me goodbye before you leave.”

“Will do.” She smiled and pulled herself out of bed, grabbing her phone before quickly hurrying out of the room.

*Ginger*

Screenshot-7739

I stepped out of that shitty apartment and immediately pressed call on the number of his current burner phone.

“Hello?” His gruff voice called out from the other line.

“Hey baby, it’s me.” I responded quietly, in case the boys were eavesdropping.

“Oh hey, how are things going on your end?”

Screenshot-7744

“Perfectly, he’s totally in love with me. Every part of our plan is falling perfectly into place. I wouldn’t doubt it if he proposed to me tomorrow.” I laughed, and so did the voice on the other end.

“Wonderful. You have to be married to him at least a year before we can take any further action.”

“I know, I know. As soon as he proposes, I’ll suggest a quick wedding. I’ll tell him I just can’t wait to be his wife.” I laughed, knowing that sucker will eat it all up.

“Perfect.”

“How are things going on your end, do you know when things will be back in action?” I asked vaguely, just incase someone was listening. I couldn’t risk this getting out.

Screenshot-7746

“Well, the current F.R.O. leader thinks it should happen within a few months.” He whispered.

“Hopefully we’ll be married by then, with a kid on the way, that way we can set our plan into action as soon as possible.”

“Try to be, maybe start dropping hints.”

“Great idea. I’ll start as soon as possible. I’ve gotta go, he always wants me to kiss him goodbye.” I rolled my eyes. It was obnoxious, I honestly couldn’t stand him, but it would be worth it in the end.

“Alright, this’ll all be over soon. I love you.”

“I know. I love you too.” I ended the call and took a deep breath. It was hard pretending to love someone you can’t stand, but I knew it would be worth it. Aloe and I would finally get the life we deserved.

*Lake*

Screenshot-7748

My father’s house was a modest little one bedroom in the suburbs of Bridgeport. I felt a little bad that he lived alone, I tried suggesting he get a dog or something but he refused. He told me he didn’t mind being alone but I knew that was a lie. It was obvious he was lonely, and I knew he would never date again after my mother. But I can’t control him, so I try to be there for him whenever I can.

I had my own set of keys to the house, so I just let myself in. Before I came over I sent my dad a text, letting him know I’d be coming so he wouldn’t think I was an intruder.

“Dad?” I called out into the small house.

“Hey, I’ll be right out!” He called from his bedroom.

Screenshot-7750

He came out about a minute later, and surprisingly he looked a lot better than he has in years. Maybe living alone was actually good for him…

“How are you son?” He smiled brightly at me.

“I’m doing great Dad, things are going great between Ginger and I.”

“That’s great to hear. When will you be popping the question?” He winked, making me blush slightly.

Screenshot-7752

“I’ve actually been saving up all my tips, I’m planning on surprising her with a trip to Paris and proposing there.”

“That’s a fantastic idea! She’s gonna love that.”

“I hope so. I really wanna make it special.” I felt a little embarrassed about being so sappy, but I couldn’t help it. I loved her so much.

“That will definitely be special, there’s no way she can say no.” He chuckled. “By the way, I better get some grandkids out of you, you know your brother won’t have any kids.”

“You never know, Thyme might just convince him.” I laughed, my brother was very opposed to having kids, he said he was way too busy with his job to be a parent.

“Maybe, but I want at least one.”

“Don’t worry Dad, you’ll get some.” I winked, I was hoping Ginger and I could start having kids right away.

“Alright,” He laughed, then shooed me out of the room. “Now go look through the garage, I know you have other things to do today. Be careful in there.”

“I will.”

Screenshot-7758

I made my way through his kitchen and into the garage, I’d never been in the garage at this house before, and I was a little shocked at how dirty it was already.

Screenshot-7759

On one side, there was just piles of old trash and boxes, and the other was where all the stuff from the old house was.

Screenshot-7762

The time machine was right next to the door. I couldn’t help but wonder what my dad thought of this. Did he know what it was? Did he ever try and use it? Or did he just ignore it, thinking it was just one of Stone’s weird inventions? I didn’t want to ask.

I stared up at it excitedly, I couldn’t wait to see how my friends were doing. Part of me wanted to bring Seven back with me, but I knew that was impractical. How would I get her out of here? Where would I keep her? I’d just have to leave her there and visit when I could.

Screenshot-7764

Enough stalling! I told myself. It’s time to get going. I pressed the familiar numbers into the machine and waited as the gears started turning.

For a moment, I thought it wasn’t working anymore. But after a few agonizing seconds, the doors opened and the bright, purple light lit up the garage.

“Bingo!” I whispered to myself, before jumping into the light.

Lake Fae Chapter 16: My Future

Screenshot-7154

It was about six in the morning when I prepared to go back home. It was now or never, if I didn’t face my problems head on I’d get caught up in the magic of the future and I’d never leave. I needed to get my act together, chasing after my childhood dreams was silly, I couldn’t be a rockstar or a hero from a sci-fi novel. I had to grow up.

It was gonna be hard. I’d screwed up a lot. I was gonna have to face my brother, I was gonna have to tell him about why I couldn’t save our sister. I was gonna have to face my dad, I was gonna have to tell him I failed at my musical career and I was gonna have to do something else. I hated to disappoint them both, but I needed to grow up.

My friends from the future had inspired me. Even though I had traveled through time, I realized I couldn’t change the past. What was done was done, I made a lot of mistakes and lost the one person I loved the most, but meddling with the past would only make things more complicated for me. I couldn’t focus on the past, I had to focus on my future.

Screenshot-7155

“How’re you feeling, Lake? Are you ready?” Andromeda asked me.

“Yea, it’s now or never.” I responded with a smile. This wasn’t the last time I’d be seeing them, but it was still sad to say goodbye.

“I’m proud of you man, it’s hard to get your life back together.” Orion commented with a smile. I knew it’d be hard, but I was determined.

Screenshot-7157

“Good luck, Lake. We’ll be rooting for you.” Canis nodded at me. I gave him a nod back and smiled.

“Don’t forget to visit, you’ll always have a room here!” Ursa smiled enthusiastically.

“I will, don’t worry. Thank you guys for being so welcoming.”

“Anytime.”

Screenshot-7158

“It’s been fun. We’ll take care of Seven until you get back.” Lyra smiled at me and at the robot standing at the end of the line.

“Thank you, I won’t be gone too long.” I assured her, I wouldn’t want to burden her too much. “Oh, and don’t forget, I left the box of stuff for you guys in my room.”

“Take your time, and thank you.” She winked. I winked back then turned to my robot.

Screenshot-7159

“Don’t worry, Seven, I’ll be back soon.”

“Yes, Master.” She gave me a small wave and I felt a little sad, it’s like I was dropping my pet off at the vet or something. I didn’t wanna leave her.

“I guess I should get going, before I change my mind.” I laughed, making the other chuckle slightly as well.

Screenshot-7161

“Bye Lake!” They all called out as the doors of the machine slid open. I gave them all a big wave before jumping into the purple light of the time machine.

Screenshot-7162 Screenshot-7164

A few minutes later I was thrown from the darkness and into my brother’s room. He was sitting on the couch, staring anxiously at the machine.

“What the hell is going on, Lake? Where is she?” He bombarded me as soon as I found my footing.

“Not right now.” I waved him off, my head hurt from time travelling and I wanted to avoid this as long as possible.

Screenshot-7165

“Lake, what the hell! Come back! Talk to me!” Stone called after me as I ran out the garage door. I couldn’t do this right now, I wasn’t ready.

I ran all the way to my room and collapsed on my bed. Even though I had just woken up, it felt like I’d been awake for a thousand years. Stress can do that to a person.

———–

Screenshot-7169

The next morning I had managed to avoid Stone before he went to work, but I didn’t think I could keep it up much longer, he had knocked on my door for at least an hour. I had to get out of this house as fast as possible. So I called Allium for a little advice on getting a job that wasn’t dealing drugs. We had talked, neither of us could come up with any ideas, so we were taking a break and hanging out with Thistle. He was doing better, but he was still practically living here. I didn’t mind though, he was a cool guy and I was glad I could at least make up with him.

“So what’re you guys gonna do now?” Thistle asked, referring to the breakup of the band.

“I have no idea.” I responded with a sigh. “That band was my future.”

“That sucks bro.” Thistle gave me a sad smile. “What about you, Al?”

“Dunno, might start taking some classes down at the community college.” Allium responded with a shrug.

“Have you considered that?” Thistle asked me. I knew he was trying to help but I felt a little patronized.

“Yea, I don’t really think that’s my thing.”

Screenshot-7173

He was about to respond, but our conversation was interrupted by my dad coming down the stairs. None of us really knew how to respond, we hadn’t seen him down here in such a long time. He’s been worse since my sister died, he never came out of the attic, not even to go to work.

I decided to be bold, so I said, “Hey Dad, what’s up?”

Screenshot-7174

“Not much, I’ve got a question for you boys though.” My dad stood over by us and I couldn’t read his expression. I wasn’t sure if he was angry with us or not. It was intimidating.

“Yea, sure Dad.” I responded with a gulp. My father was a scary man, he could flip his lid any second and we’d have no warning.

“Well, I’m reopening the bar soon, and I need some new bartenders, mine quit. I was wondering if any of you would be interested.”

Screenshot-7176

I immediately jumped up. This was perfect, I would get a job, I’d be working nights so it’d be easier to avoid Stone, and I’d be working alongside my father. We never had a great relationship, I tried to not let it bother me but it always did. Now was my chance to get close to him.

“I’d love to.” I answered enthusiastically.

“Are you sure, what about the band?” He asked, making my stomach drop.

“Um, it broke up. It’s ok though, it was just a pipe dream.” I admitted.

Screenshot-7178

“Well alright, meet me in the attic later so we can start training.” He gave me the first genuine smile I’d seen from him since mom left, before heading up the stairs. I sat back down on the couch with a huge smile on my face. I couldn’t believe how perfect this was.

———-

Screenshot-7181

Later that day after Al left I met my dad upstairs. I hadn’t been up here since I was younger and snuck up here with my sister. It seemed like a million years ago but the place still looked the same.

“Alright, now pour that one into there.” My dad instructed while pointing to the bottles. Mixing drinks was a lot harder than I thought, it was gonna take some time to learn all of this. But the busier the better, I suppose.

Screenshot-7180

The bottle I was using slipped out of my hands and fell to the floor with a crash. “Whoops.” I smiled cheekily at my dad, hoping he wouldn’t freak out.

“That’s alright, keep going.” He encouraged. It was odd behavior from him, but I didn’t question it. It seemed like he was actually trying to be a father to me. Though it was a little late, it was still nice.

Screenshot-7186

It took me a few hours to get the first drink right, but when I did I couldn’t help but feel extremely proud of myself. I was finally starting to get my life on track. It seemed like my dad was trying too. I just hoped we could stay on this path.

Lake Fae Chapter 11: That’s Impossible

Screenshot-6727

“So do we have a gig this week or no?” I asked Freesia over the blaring music. Allium and Blackberry’s party was pretty awesome, but I just wasn’t feeling it tonight. Something felt off, I couldn’t explain it.

“I don’t think so, I know that we have one next weekend but this week we don’t have any.” Freesia responded.

“Where at? Our usual club or somewhere new?” I asked hopefully, we’d been playing the same club for almost a year now and I wanted a change of scenery.

“Same old place.” She looked as disappointed as I felt. We weren’t doing too hot lately and it scared me.

Screenshot-6730

“What are we gonna do, Babe? We don’t have a backup plan anymore, if this goes south we’re screwed.” I fiddled with a loose string on my jeans. I was extremely nervous, this was my dream and I didn’t want to fail.

“I don’t know, but we’ll figure something out. Maybe Blackberry could hook us up with one of his suppliers.” Blackberry was a drug-dealer, he made good money and it wasn’t a terrible idea.

“Are you sure you wanna get involved in that?  It’s pretty dangerous.” I told her. It was pretty dangerous, there were rival dealers and a lot of cops, it wasn’t easy and I didn’t want her getting hurt.

Screenshot-6731

“I know it’s dangerous, but I think I would get a lot of business. I’m cute and I can talk anyone into anything. I would be an awesome drug-dealer.” She gave me a flirty smile. “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. You worry too much.”

“I do not, I just don’t want my baby getting hurt.” I assured her.

Screenshot-6732

“Then maybe we could be a team. I do the talking and you carry the product, so you can scare the shit out of the buyers so they won’t try anything with me.”

“That’s actually a pretty good idea.” I admitted. We would make a great team and we  could probably make a lot more money that way.

“Awesome, I’ll talk to Blackberry another time, he looks a little busy.” She gestured behind us, where he was making out with some random girl we’ve never seen before.

Screenshot-6734

“So since we’re gonna be partners on this, maybe we should get a place together, y’know, so I’m always protected in case something goes wrong.” She asked hesitantly. It wasn’t a bad idea.

“Yea, I’d love too, but let’s give it a few weeks, just so we can save up enough to get a nice place.”

“That makes sense.” She smiled at me. “I can’t wait.”

“Me either, it’s gonna be awesome waking up to your face every day.”

“Yea, same here.” Freesia smiled at me again, before glancing over at the array of drugs across the coolers in front of us. “Do you want anything, babe?”

Screenshot-6733

“Um,” My eyes grazed over all the drugs, until they landed on a small baggie of coke. “I could do a line.” I motioned towards the baggie.

“Me too.” She smiled at me before starting to prepare the lines for the both of us.

“So how are things at home?” She asked, not looking up from the makeshift table.

“Y’know, the usual. Dad’s drunk, Stone’s in the garage, and Skye’s on my ass constantly. I can’t wait to get out of there.” I told her as she leaned down to do her line.

“Yea, I can’t wait for you to get out of there either. You’re sister is so annoying, constantly nagging you. It’s like she’s trying to be your mother or something.” She sneered.

“I wonder where she gets it from, we never really knew our mother.” I wondered aloud as I went in to take my line.

“Who knows, she’s annoying as hell and soon you won’t have to deal with her.”

“Thank god, now lets stop talking about that.” I wrapped my arm around Freesia and pulled her close to me, before twisting around so that she was underneath me.

Screenshot-6738

“Then what do you wanna talk about?” She gave me a flirty smile.

“How about we stop talking and start kissing?”

“Sounds like a great idea.”

———

Screenshot-6745

It was still raining by the time I got home around six AM. But it wasn’t as bad as it had been last night, it was raining so hard I had to sleep at the party. I had taken a cab from Allium and Blackberry’s place, as they lived in Riverview, the next town over. It was a pretty long drive but I didn’t really mind.

Screenshot-6747

I didn’t expect anyone to be awake, no one was ever awake around here at six, so I was a little surprised to see them, fully dressed and sitting in the living-room nonetheless.

“What’s going on here, you guys look miserable.” I half-laughed.

Screenshot-6748

But they didn’t laugh with me. They didn’t say anything for a while, and I started to panic. My dad was never in the living-room, and if that wasn’t odd enough it looked like he’d been crying. I couldn’t even see Stone’s face, it was buried in his hands. I couldn’t help but wonder where my sister was.

“Can someone please explain to me what’s going on? Did something happen?” I asked after a few more minutes of silence.

Screenshot-6752

“Yea, something happened.” Stone jumped up, practically yelling at me. I cringed and took a step back, I was a little scared for what he was about to say. “Skye and her friends went to the beach, and when they were out in the water the storm got too bad, they weren’t able to get out. They all drowned.”

His words made my stomach drop.

Screenshot-6754

“N-no, that’s impossible. Skye is great at swimming, we’ve gone swimming so many times.” My voice started to waver, this couldn’t be happening.

“The storm got too rough, even a professional swimmer wouldn’t be able to get out.” Stone explained through his tears.

“No, no this can’t be happening.” I mumbled as my head started to spin. I felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest and I couldn’t breathe. She couldn’t be dead, I just saw her last night. She was fine.

Screenshot-6758

“A-are they sure?” I asked, hopeful that maybe she was still out there, they just hadn’t found her yet.

“T-they’re sure. They recovered the bodies a f-few hours ago.” Stone explained between sobs.

“Oh my god.” I clutched my chest, the whole room was spinning and I felt like I was gonna pass out.

“Do you need to sit down, Lake?” My dad asked, but I could barely hear him. My mind was racing, what could I have done differently? Was this my fault? Maybe if I had gone with her I could’ve stopped this, or at least I would’ve died too and I wouldn’t have to live without her.

Screenshot-6761

I sank to my knees, I couldn’t stand anymore. I was sobbing too hard. I felt awful, maybe if we hadn’t been fighting for the past few years she wouldn’t have made new friends and she wouldn’t have gone.

Another sob ripped through my body as I realized I would never be able to make up with her. She would never know that I do still love her and that I didn’t want us to be fighting forever.

She would never know.

Lake Fae Chapter 6: Please Stop Fighting

*Warning* Yelling and swearing in this chapter, don’t read if that kind of stuff upsets you. Thank you and enjoy 🙂

*Skye*

Screenshot-6314

“Dad?” I asked quietly as I careful ascended the stairs into the attic. I was nervous, I’d only been up here once with Lake, but my dad still didn’t know that happened. We weren’t allowed up here and we weren’t supposed to bother him when he was here. But I felt like this would be an exception, this was kind of an emergency.

My older brother and our band mates were all at Freesia’s house, and they were all doing illegal drugs. Freesia and I were never that close. I didn’t really like her from the beginning, but I knew my brother had a crush on her so I tried my best to get along with her. However, getting me and my brother into drugs wasn’t worth his relationship.

Screenshot-6316

“Hey, Dad?” I said, a little louder this time. His head was down on the bar and I wasn’t sure if he was even conscious. There were beer bottles on the counter next to him as well as on the floor. It was weird to see him like this. Yea, I knew my dad got drunk almost every night, but I’d never actually seen it for myself. I just heard my brothers complain about it. They were tired of him not being there for us, for spending more and more time with the bottle.

I was about to call out to him once more when he started to stir. “Dad?” I asked quietly as he pulled himself into a sitting position at the bar. Immediately his back stiffened at the sound of my voice.

“Skye?” He asked, his voice low and cold.

“Yes Dad, it’s me. I need to talk to you.”

Screenshot-6319

He jumped up way too fast for a drunk man. He sent the bar stool flying, that’s how quickly he stood.

“I told you and your brothers, you aren’t allowed up here!” He yelled. I’ve never seen my father so angry. I’ve never really seen him express any emotion other than sadness, that is. Dad getting angry at me was something I’d never experienced.

“I-I’m sorry Daddy.” I stuttered. “I-it’s just Lake’s friends brought out drugs tonight, and I-” I started, before he interrupted.

“I told you to never come up here.”

“I-I’m sorry, but this is important.”

Screenshot-6321

“Look, I don’t have time for this petty shit, okay? If you’re mad at your brother for choosing weed over you, that’s your problem. Don’t be a snitch and leave me out of it.” He growled, then hiccuped. He was obviously still drunk, but his words hurt.

“I’m sorry Daddy.” I whispered, barely choking my words out from behind my tears.

“Just go, I’ll deal with your brother later.”

Screenshot-6322

I quickly spun on my heel and climbed down the stairs. My first instinct was to go to Lake, he was always the person I ran to when I was upset. But he wasn’t an option now. My only friends were all with him, and I didn’t really consider them my friends after tonight. That really only left me with one option.

———

*Lake*

Screenshot-6323

My night with the band was pretty insane. We were all really drunk and really high, I’ve never had so much fun in my life. There was one incident where Thistle vomited on my shirt, but Freesia promised she would clean it and give it back to me the next time we saw each other.

When I snuck back into the house, it was completely quiet. All the lights were out and there wasn’t anyone on the bottom floor. I figured everyone was asleep and I got off scot-free.

Screenshot-6324

But boy, was I wrong.

I made my way up to the bedroom to find my brother sitting there, waiting for me.

Screenshot-6325

“Where were you?” He asked, like a worried parent from television.

“I was out, why do you care?” I crossed my arms defensively.

“Well I don’t, but you obviously upset her.” Stone gestured to his bed, where Skye’s head was buried in the pillow and it was obvious she was crying. I hadn’t even realized she was in the room.

“Okay.” I started walking across the room to crawl into bed. It didn’t even matter that I was fully dressed, I was still a little buzzed and I wanted to sleep it off.

Screenshot-6330

“What the hell is wrong with you? You chose those losers over your sister, your best friend practically since you were born?” Stone jumped up from the chair and got up in my face.

“She was being a baby, she freaked out over weed and beer, then threatened to tattle on me. She was being really lame.” I tried to justify my actions, even though I knew I has been a dick. Why did I do it? Why did I choose them over her?

Screenshot-6331

“You are such an asshole, Lake. She has every right to freak out, that shit is illegal. You should’ve done the same thing.”

“Sorry, but I’m not a fucking loser like you guys. I actually have friends, and a girlfriend. Maybe if you guys weren’t so stuck up you’d have friends too.” I yelled. I knew I was being a complete jerk, but I couldn’t stop the things coming out of my mouth. Was this the drugs talking?

Screenshot-6338

Stone balled his fists and placed them on his hips. “I do have friends, actually. There’s no need for you to be such an ass.”

“Aw, it’s so cute that you’re so defensive.” I mocked, I couldn’t stop myself. “What, don’t want to look like a loser in front of your little brother? Newsflash, you’ve always looked like a loser to me.”

“Screw you, Lake! At least I’ll be able to get into college, unlike you who’s gonna ruin his life over drugs and a stupid girl.”

Screenshot-6333

“First of all, I took some pills once. It’s not like I’m gonna get addicted. Two, she’s not a stupid girl, she’s my girlfriend so have a little respect, dickbag. Third, I could get into any college I want based on my piano skills alone, not even including my abilities with other instruments. Finally, what are you gonna get into college for? Chess? Tinkering with scraps of metal? How fucking special.” I knew I would regret these words when I sobered up.

Screenshot-6339

“P-please s-stop fighting.” Skye’s voice spoke up before Stone had a chance to retaliate. “I’m sorry I said anything.”

Screenshot-6342

And just like that, I snapped. “You should be sorry! You embarrassed me in front of all my friends, left the band I worked so hard to include you in, and now you’ve caused everyone in this house to hate each other. Maybe if you weren’t such a dork this wouldn’t have happened.”

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry, okay? I screwed up, I regret it, and I wish I could go back in time. I’m sorry.” She buried her face in her hands and continued to cry.

“Yea, I wish we could too.”

Screenshot-6345

Skye threw herself off Stone’s bed and ran out of the room, still crying. I crossed my arms, there was still a lot I wanted to say to her. I shrugged, there wasn’t anything I could do tonight.

Screenshot-6346

“You’re so selfish, Lake. I can’t believe you.” Stone crossed his arms and glared at me.

“You think I give a shit what you think?” I turned away from him while I changed into my pajamas.

“Good luck trying to fix this.” He mumbled. His words sobered me up pretty quick. I pretty much just ruined the relationship I had with my sister, and for what? One high? Was I really that selfish?

He was right, I was gonna need a lot of luck to fix this one.
