Jasmine Fae Chapter 3: Red Hot

A/N Sorry for the wait on this chapter, I wish I had a valid excuse but I don’t. I got way too into Supernatural and I’ve been watching it obsessively instead of playing sims. But I managed to pull myself away long enough to get a chapter put together. Thanks for waiting!

Screenshot-4709

Mom and Dad planned a huge party for Ivy and Iris’s birthday. They were turning fourteen, they were gonna be starting high school soon. They were both really excited, they couldn’t wait to be able to do older kid things.

My parents were sad that their youngest kids were getting older, so they decided to throw a huge party with all of the family. When I say all of the family, I mean all of them.

Screenshot-4698

The first ones to arrive were Aunt Fern and Uncle Palm. They had just had a new baby, a little boy named Ficus. The middle child, Periwinkle was becoming a handful, just like Venus. But that didn’t make Venus like him any more.

Screenshot-4700

The second ones to arrive were Aunt Missy and Aunt Amber. They weren’t officially married, they said they didn’t need to. They also didn’t have any children, but they were happy with just the two of them.

Screenshot-4704

The next to arrive was Uncle Dill and Aunt Alyssum. Alyssum was Dill’s third wife, he divorced his first wife before I was born, married his second wife soon after, divorced her a few years later, then married again. Alyssum was Aunt Fern’s half-sister, which made the whole thing a little strange. They weren’t exactly my favorite relatives.

Screenshot-4706

Papa was the next to show up. We didn’t see him often, he was involved in some sketchy stuff but Dad still wanted us to have a relationship with him. He never remarried after his wife left him, but I know he’s been dating around.

Screenshot-4702

Uncle Carrot and Uncle Maple showed up soon after. They were probably the most famous couple in our family. Maple was a famous television actor, and Carrot was a star athlete. Iris looked up to him, she was obsessed with sports and she wanted to be just like him.

Screenshot-4708

Last but certainly not least, my favorite relatives arrived. Grandma and Grandpa were the coolest people I’ve ever met. Grandpa was a rockstar, he still sold out shows every weekend. Grandma had retired from music, but she still drove her motorcycle everywhere. That’s pretty bad-ass for a woman approaching sixty.

Uncle Basil was pretty cool too. He was actually my great-uncle, but it was just easier to call him uncle. He was an author, he wrote about his times with the scientists and how they fixed his hearing. He also still volunteered for experiments, so he could steal our old texts from the scientists.

My cousin Aster was a tough guy. His mom recently died, Aunt Poppy was a drug addict and she overdosed a few months ago. He wasn’t too affected by it, his mom abandoned him when he was a toddler and he’d lived with our grandparents his whole life. He spoke to her probably ten times in his life, but still it had to have been hard on him.

Screenshot-4717

We all had to gather in the backyard, since the house would probably explode if we tried to fit everyone in there. My sister’s were anxious to get into their teens, so we started almost immediately after everyone arrived.

Screenshot-4720

Ivy went first, since she was born first. I also think she wanted to go first so she could get this over with. She hated being outside, and she hated being surrounded by people, so this was pretty much hell for her. But she was excited to be a teenager, so she didn’t complain.

Screenshot-4731

Iris went right after. She was ever more excited than Ivy. High school for her meant sports, and she couldn’t wait.

Screenshot-4736

Even though they were twins, they honestly couldn’t be any different. Ivy was even more shut in now that she was a teen, all she wanted to do was curl up with a book and ignore everyone. Iris on the other hand, only got more social. As soon as she finished her transformation she was texting someone. She was like a little butterfly.

But even though they were polar opposites, they were the best of friends. They were practically inseparable at home, I just hope they can keep that bond throughout high school.

Screenshot-4738

After cake, everyone just started talking and hanging out. It was nice to have all my family together, I don’t think we’ve all been together at once like this.

“Hey babe, having fun?” I asked Ash, the girls let me invite one person, and since Venus was already a relative I decided on Ash. He had to meet my family eventually, why not get it all done in one shot?

“Yea, Your family is awesome! Why didn’t you tell me your uncles are Maple and Carrot Reyna? They’re like the two coolest guys ever.” He told me excitedly. I laughed, I never took him as the kind of person who’d get star-struck.

Screenshot-4739

“It never came up.” I teased. “So, you like my family?”

“Yea, they’re a little nuts but all great families are.” He smiled. He was right, we were pretty nuts.

“My parents seem to like you.” My parents weren’t really strict about boys, so I wasn’t surprised when they told me they really liked him.

Screenshot-4741

“That’s good.” He took my hands in his and smiled at me. “Jazz, I know we’ve only been dating a few weeks, but I feel like we really get each other, and well, I’m in love with you.”

“Wow, that was unexpected.”

“Sorry. Did that make you uncomfortable?”

“No, of course not. I thought you’d be freaked out by my family, I didn’t expect you to like them, and I didn’t expect you to say that you love me after meeting them.” I said with a laugh.

“Oh, good.”

Screenshot-4743

“Oh, and just so you know, I love you too.”

———-

Screenshot-4745

The party lasted for a few hours, but before long it was time for everyone to leave. Me, Iris, Ivy and Ash decided to hang out here for a while, we had nothing better to do for the rest of the day.

We tried to get Venus to hang out with us, but she hasn’t been herself lately. With the abortion, the break up, and her new little brother, she was under a lot of stress. I’m hoping that she’ll bounce back soon, especially after I confront Cherry next week. Maybe after I put her in her place, Venus will feel a little better.

Screenshot-4748

But right now I was gonna talk to my sisters about high-school.

“So guys, you excited for high school? I asked.

“Hell yea.” Iris cheers from the floor.  “I can’t wait to enter tournaments, it’s gonna be awesome!” Since our school was the only one in town, we didn’t have a rival school to play team sports against. So our school did single-person sports, and held tournaments every five weeks.

“Yea, of course you will. You’re more of a sports freak than Uncle Carrot.” I joked. “What about you Ivy?”

Screenshot-4749

“Well, I’m looking forward to the library. I hear they’ve got thousands of books there.” I cocked an eyebrow.

“Is that it?”

“Yea, and I guess I’m excited that I’m finally old enough to start sitting in on F.R.O. meetings.”

“Oh yea, that’s gotta be cool.” Ash said. He knew about F.R.O., but he was too young to join. The only reason we were allowed in the meetings was because our parents ran the entire organization. And because one of us would be taking on the leadership role in a few years.

Screenshot-4752

“I can’t wait until you’re old enough to join, it’s gonna be so awesome.” I scooted closer to him.

“Me either. Maybe one day we could go on a mission together.”

“Mmm, you know I love it when you talk about missions.” I half-moaned, making Iris make a fake puking noise.

“God Jazz, I never expected you to be the love-y type.” She joked. I threw a candy wrapper at her.

“Shut up.” I pouted, and she stuck her tongue out at me.

Maybe now that my sisters are older, we could actually be friends.

———-

Screenshot-4757

“You okay V?” I asked my cousin as we walked into school a few days later. She’d only been back to school a few times since what happened.

“I guess. I just wanna get this over with.”

“Hey, isn’t that your sister?” Ash whispered quietly to me, and pointed over to the corner where Sage’s locker was.

Screenshot-4758

“Holy crap I think it is.” I whispered back. Iris was standing at Sage’s locker, and it looked like she was flirting with him.

“Shit.” He cursed under his breath.

“I’ll deal with that later. I’ve got someone else I’ve gotta deal with right now.” I clenched my fists and made my way over to Cherry.

Screenshot-4761

“Hey Cherry, can you stop sucking face for a second? We need to talk.”

“Go away Mutt, can’t you see I’m busy?” She pulled away from Rye and glared at me.

“I don’t really give a shit.”

Screenshot-4762

“What?” She snapped, and pushed Rye off her. He walked away, and called his little jock friend to follow him.

“What is wrong with you?” I knew this wasn’t going to end well, but I didn’t care.

“What’s wrong with me? Haven’t you looked in the mirror? I’m not the weird Mutt girl.” She sneered.

“Screw you. Why are you always such a bitch to everyone?”

Screenshot-4763

“I’m not a bitch, I’m just giving you what you deserve.”

“I don’t really care what you do to me. You can call me names and whatever the hell you want, but why did you have to do such a terrible thing to Venus?”

“Aw, your cuzzie needs you to stand up for her? That’s so sad.” She laughed, and so did her little side-kick.

Screenshot-4764

“Listen, all I want is two things. One, I want you to leave Venus alone. Two, I wanna know why you torment me so much. I haven’t done anything wrong, and there’s no reason you should be messing with me at all.”

“You are the reason, you filthy little mutt.” I could feel my blood start to boil. She was really pissing me off.

“All I want is an explanation, then you can continue to give me all the shit you want.” I was pushing her, because I knew there had to be a reason for her to be doing this.

“I already told you. God, is your little hybrid brain that tiny?”

I don’t know what happened. I felt a huge rush of something over my body, it felt like a electrical shock, but like in a wave.

Screenshot-4765

All I saw was red and Cherry’s snobby little face cowering against a locker. I had my arm pinned against her neck, I don’t remember how it got there though.

“Tell me.” A voice growled. It sounded so savage and barbaric, but I soon realized it was my voice.

That snapped me out of it. I took a step back, removing my arm from her neck. She fell to the floor, and the red light vanished.

“Oh my god, Cherry.” I was freaking out. I was terrified I might’ve hurt her.

I held my hand out to help her off the floor. She pulled herself up, ignoring my hand.

Screenshot-4771

She stood in front of me with a blank expression on her face.

“I’m so sorry, are you okay?” I asked, but she ignored me.

“There is a reason I tease you.” She admitted, but her voice sounded monotonous, and I realized what I had done. My mom had told me about it when she was teaching me about fairy powers. I had put her into a truth trance.

“My mother had an affair with a fairy when I was six.” I was wracking my brain, trying to remember how to stop this. A crowd had gathered around us, and I had a feeling this wasn’t something she wanted people to know.

“She got pregnant, even though she was so careful. She tried to play it off as my father’s baby. But her plan was ruined when the baby came out with sparkles. But on closer inspection, they realized the little boy was also a vampire.”

I was shocked, I thought I was the only hybrid to ever exist. As soon as she said that, everyone started to whisper.

Screenshot-4773

Despite my best efforts to reverse the trance, Cherry was still talking.

“They decided not to let anyone know, and tell them the baby was a still born. They took the baby deep into the forest, and threw him into the electric field that surrounds the Valley. They couldn’t stand the thought of being outcasts. I torment you, because I’m jealous of you. I’m angry that you got to live, and my little brother didn’t.”

Everyone silenced. No one knew what to say.

Cherry broke out of her trance soon after she finished. I’ll never forget the way she looked at me. Her expression was filled with terror and sadness. She ran off crying after realized everyone was staring at her.

I couldn’t believe what I had done.

River Fae Chapter 14: F.R.O.

Screenshot-3372

“Okay, now that everyone’s here we can get started.” Hydrangea smiled at us after Hero took a seat in the last remaining chair. I could feel him staring at me, but I couldn’t even look at him. He resembled her way too much.

“Alright, so River, Welcome to F.R.O.” She waved her arms around, showing off the room.

“F.R.O.?”

“Fae Restoration Organization. We’re trying to restore your family to power and break away from the scientists.” She explained.

“How long had this been going on?” I looked around the room at the familiar faces. It was obvious that this wasn’t the first meeting.

“Honestly, we’ve been doing this for a few years, sweetheart.” My mom chimed in.

Screenshot-3375

“Are we the only members?” If we were going to overthrow the scientists, we were gonna need a lot more people.

“Of course not, we’re just the board members.”

“What do you guys do?”

“We strategize. We need a plan.” Hydrangea spoke passionately about F.R.O., it was liberating to see her so invested in something. She was never like this when I worked with her. She was a cold woman who didn’t mess around, but there was no passion behind her coldness.

“Do we have a plan?”

“Multiple, but we need to be absolutely positive they’ll work.” She sighed. I had a feeling she was about to tell the story of the incident, and my feeling was right. “I had just gotten married when it happened. His name was Moss Blu, and he was the one who originally got my family into F.R.O. when I was a teenager. He was very passionate about the organization. He wanted to get out, explore the world. They had a plan, they were gonna travel through the forest and try and find what was out there, and then come back. The got about five miles into the forest, and they were all electrocuted to death. I told him to go, I told him it’d be a great opportunity. He didn’t want to go, but I talked him into it. And he went, and so did my parents. All three of them died. And ever since, I’ve been completely devoted to this organization. Now it’s all I have.”

She wasn’t even tearing up as she told this awful story. I would’ve expected at least one tear, but no. She was so much stronger than I ever even realized. Maybe that’s why she was so cold all the time, she had lost so much. She always blamed herself for what happened to her husband and her parents. She threw herself into her detective work so she could distract herself, and she tried so hard not to make another mistake. She thought things over too much, which caused her to slip up again. And now, she didn’t have anything to lose, so she threw herself into this.

Screenshot-3373

“And that’s why we need to make sure our plans are completely fool-proof. We already have limited members, we can’t afford to lose anyone. That’s why we need to figure out everything the scientists are doing to keep us in. We need to figure out how to get past them. We need to be one step ahead at all times.”

Screenshot-3382

“So far, all we know is that they have some kind of electric field surrounding the valley, and anyone who tries to cross it dies. We don’t know how to get past it, but we have people working on that. We also have the ocean, but we don’t know what they have out there. We also have people working on that, but nothing on either so far.” My mom explained. All this information was making my head spin.

Screenshot-3393

“Actually, we’ve got something on the ocean. They have something out there too, it’s kind of like a large fisherman’s trap. We’re figuring out how to disarm it, even if its just for a little while.” Hero announced.

“So what does this mean?” I asked.

“In a few years, we might be able to send someone for help.” Hydrangea admitted excitedly.

Screenshot-3396

“And how long is that going to take? Do we really want our children growing up in a world like this?” Fern cried. Oh yea, I forgot to mention, Fern is pregnant with her first child, so she’s been extremely moody for the past month.

“I don’t think we’ll be ready anytime soon, these scientists are much more advanced than us. It’s gonna take us years. Maybe your children will be the ones going on the mission.” Hero tried to encourage her, but that just upset her even more.

“I don’t want my children to have to risk their lives for this.”

“Yes, but we don’t know them yet, we can’t make their decisions for them before they’re even born.” Maple chimed in.

“Well it won’t be my children.” She crossed her arms like a child.

“Fine, we’ll have more people for the job anyways.” Drea smiled and changed the subject. “Speaking of that, Carrot how are you coming on recruiting new members?”

Screenshot-3410

“I’ve gotten at least ten more people involved, all of them originals.” Originals were what we called vampires and Fae who were here since the beginning of the experiments.

“No younger recruits?” Mom asked, and he shook his head.

“No, none of them are very interested. They don’t want to fight for something that could endanger their lives.” He said solemnly.

Screenshot-3377

“You could always stop by one of my concerts, there’s lots of younger, rebellious people who go to them. I bet you could get at least five more for the team.” Dill offered, and Carrot nodded.

“Will do.” It was weird for me to see my brothers interact, I had no idea they even knew each other.

“Alright, well I’ve got practice right now, I’ve gotta go.” Dill stood up and said goodbye, then left.

Screenshot-3414

Drea sat down in Dill’s empty seat, and turned to my mom. “So how is Basil doing with the books? Has he been able to score any more?”

“He’s there right now, actually.” Mom smirked.

“What books?”

“Oh, your uncle has been going back to the lab, volunteering for more experiments, and he’s been stealing a few of our old books every time he goes. He’s helped us out a lot, I mean look what he’s already gotten us.” She waved her hands over the table. There were a lot of old books here, it must’ve taken him forever to steal all these.

Screenshot-3403

“Is he doing okay? Are they hurting him?” I worried.

“He does what he has to too help us.” She simply stated.

“You’re okay with that?” I asked, I would’ve thought my mom would protest his return to the lab after everything he went through with scientists.

“No, but he’s a grown man. He chooses to go, there’s not much I can do to stop him.”

“Alright, does anyone have anything else?” Drea asked, trying to keep the tone in the room light.

“No, I don’t think so.” Maple looked around the room, and everyone nodded.

“Alrighty then, you’re dismissed.”

Screenshot-3421

“Except River, you stay.” Drea smirked at me as everyone else started to leave.

Screenshot-3424

“Actually Drea, would it be okay if I talked to him for a minute?” Hero asked. Drea looked at me, looking for an answer.

Screenshot-3425

“No, not today.” I tried to keep myself from getting angry with him. I knew it wasn’t his fault, but he was so easy to blame, it was hard not to.

He nodded slightly and left the room quickly. I felt kinda bad, he used to be like an uncle to me. But now it was hard to even look at him without seeing her.

Screenshot-3430

“He’s not a bad guy, River.” Drea said softly as I approached her.

“I know, I’m just not ready.”

“Understandable.” She smiled. “So, did you like the meeting?”

“I did, but why didn’t any of you tell me before?” I had been wondering that the whole time. They all were in this, and I had no idea. How long had it been going on like that?

“We were going to actually, that’s why I needed you on the Gardenia case and not Fern. She was already in this, and we wanted to make sure you were ready.”

Screenshot-3435

“And so you think I’m ready now?”

“I know you’re ready now.”

“I know I am too.” I smiled at her.

“So, how would you feel about being co-director?” She asked.

“Really? Why not someone who’s been here longer than I have?”

“Two reasons: One, you’re the heir to the Fae crown. If your family was still in power, you’d be the king. Two, because I like you a lot better than anyone else here.” She explained. I felt like she was flirting with me.

Screenshot-3455

“I’d love to be your co-director.” I flirted back.

“Welcome to the team.” She beamed.

Screenshot-3469

“There’s also something else I wanted to ask.” Drea looked away from me shyly.

“What is it?” I asked.

“Well, um, would you maybe wanna go out sometime?” She was nervous, and she looked freaking adorable. It was impossible to say no to her.

“I’d love to.”

Screenshot-3472

She kissed me quickly, I barely had any time to react. “Goodnight, Co-director.” She smirked, before running out of the conference room.

I had a lot to process tonight.

———

*Carrot*

Screenshot-3473

“Uh hey, Maple, can I talk to you?” I nervously entered Maple’s bedroom. I was about to do something that could jeopardize everything I had currently, but I didn’t care anymore. Things needed to be said.

Screenshot-3476

I was actually surprised he was even still awake. It was almost two in the morning, and I fully expected to walk right out of here without saying anything. Trust me, I’ve done it a million times before. I would wait until River started to snore, then I’d sneak out of the room and come in here to talk to him, but he’s always sleeping. But not tonight.

“Yea sure, give me a sec.” He said, without even looking up from the screen. I took a few more steps into the room, and I was now standing in the middle of the room.

He got up from the desk and made his way over to me. “Wanna take a seat?”

“No thanks, I’d prefer to stand.”

Screenshot-3479

“Are you okay? You seem really nervous.” He asked me, making me want to run out of the room without saying anything.

“Um, yea. I just h-have something I need to say to you.” I told him, my voice cracking under my nervousness.

“Sure.”

I took a deep breath, trying to remember the speech I practiced in the bathroom mirror a million times. “Um, so, we’ve been friends for a while, right?” I asked, and he gave me a puzzled look, then nodded. “Well um, I was just curious, but do you remember last night in the hot tub, when you said you were interested in someone?”

“Yea.”

“Well, I was wondering, who is it?”

“Why do you wanna know?”

“I was kinda hoping it was me.” I admitted.

Screenshot-3480

His face lit up like a Christmas tree. “Wait, really?”

“Yea. Ever since I started getting to know you I started to like you. It’s been really confusing, to be honest. I’ve been dating a girl for the past seven years of my life, I never thought I’d ever fall for a guy. But I guess shit happens.” I laughed, and thankfully so did he.

“What about your girlfriend?”

“She dumped me. Said I was too distant. I had a hard time being near her when I knew I was falling for someone else. I couldn’t do that to her, and I didn’t want a repeat of River. So I waited until she dumped me.”

“So now what?”

“Well you never answered my question, was it me?” I asked, and he nodded. “Thank god. I was gonna look like a damn fool if it wasn’t.”

“But Carrot, if we’re gonna do this, we’re gonna have to keep it a secret from River.” He frowned.

“Why? He’s pretty open-minded. He has a gay step-sister.”

“I know, but I don’t want him to feel like a third wheel. It’s weird living with a couple, and I don’t wanna put him through that. Not right now.” He grabbed my hand softly. “Can you do that?”

I nodded. “I’d do anything.”

Screenshot-3494

Maple smiled at me. “Me too.” He said, before pulling me into a kiss. Kissing him was so different from kissing Cinna. It was magical. I could feel him start to get hard against me, and I decided to be a tease.

So with a sudden burst of confidence, I pulled back from the kiss and grinned at him.

Screenshot-3497

“Night.” I kissed him on the cheek, then walked out of the room with a huge smile on my face.

River Fae Chapter 13: Making a Splash

Screenshot-3248

Hydrangea was coming over to swim today, and I was extremely nervous. We’ve only known each other in a professional environment, and I was afraid she wouldn’t like me outside of it. I really wanted her to like me, she was Tulip’s only remaining family and I knew that I’d have to make her like me if Tulip was still alive.

She told me she was gonna be here at ten, and it was now ten-thirty. I was worried she wouldn’t show, and I really hoped that wasn’t the case. It was so embarrassing to sit there with my friend and brother, waiting for someone who might not even show, so I sent them out to the pool early.

Screenshot-3250

Finally after fifteen more minutes of waiting, the doorbell rang. I jumped off the couch to answer the door. Hydrangea stood on the front porch nervously, I’ve never seen her so vulnerable. It was strange.

“Hey Drea, come on in.” I invited her in, and I noticed she had her hair down. I’ve never seen her hair down. I had no idea it was so long.

Screenshot-3256

“Thanks for inviting me over, you have such a nice house.” She looked around in awe. “Oh, and I’m sorry I’m so late, my roommate needed a ride to work.”

“It’s no problem, now c’mon, let’s go swim.” We laughed and I lead her outside.

Screenshot-3265

“Wow, you’re backyard is huge!” She exclaimed as she ran outside. I really liked this side of her. I hoped I could see it more often.

“Yea, it’s a lot bigger than our old backyard. I love it.” I smiled.

“Hey Drea, River, come on in.” Maple called from the pool.

“Race ya.” Drea yelled and took off running. I couldn’t help but chuckle.

Screenshot-3271

She took the slide and I took the diving board and on the count of three we went into the pool.

Screenshot-3274

When I surfaced, Carrot was getting out of the pool. “Getting out already?”

“You know I’m not a fan of water.” He mumbled, and headed inside.

Screenshot-3275

“You better come back out.” I yelled after him. He grunted and waved me off, making everyone laugh.

“You’re such an older brother.” Hydrangea splashed me. I suddenly remembered my beach date with Tulip the day before she died, and how we had a splashing fight in the water that day.

“Um hey, how about we have a breath holding contest?” I suggested, trying to distract myself.

“Sure, you in Maple?”

“Nah, I’m good.”

Screenshot-3280

Maple offered to be the judge, but I think he was too involved in his romance novel to care. I didn’t mind though, I just wanted to get my mind off Tulip.

Screenshot-3283Screenshot-3286

“Hell yea!” I yelled when I found out I won.

“Ugh, you suck.” Drea joked.

“Hey, wanna relax on some rafts? We’ve got a few more if you want one.”

“Sure, I’d love to.”

Screenshot-3297

A few minutes later all three of us were relaxing on rafts.

“So, Maple whatcha reading?” Hydrangea asked, and he laughed.

“Don’t think you’d be interested, it’s a homoerotic novel.” He laughed, and she scrunched her face in horror.

“You’re right, not my thing.”

Screenshot-3292

Just then, Carrot came back outside.

“Hey, can you get me a soda too?” I asked.

“Get it yourself, jerk.” He joked.

“Why do you guys have a vending machine in your backyard?” Drea wondered aloud.

“My dad knows a lot of shady guys.” He simply stated before taking a seat on one of the law chairs.

“Hey River, where’s your bathroom?” Drea jumped off her raft and into the pool.

“It’s the door right off the kitchen, it’s impossible to miss.” I explained, and soon she was gone leaving just us guys. I slid off my raft and swam up next to Maple.

Screenshot-3301

“Having fun?”

“You so like her.” He stated, never even looking up from his book.

“Nonsense, she’s just a friend.”

“I can tell you like her dude, and honestly I think you’d make a great match.”

“No, I think you’re wrong, bro.” I grumbled, before swimming away and climbing out of the pool.

There was no way I could like her, she’s my deceased girlfriend’s sister. I’d be a terrible person if I dated her, it’d be like spitting on Tulip’s grave. I could never do that to her, no matter how cute her sister looked in that swimsuit.

Screenshot-3302

“Hey, mind if I join you?” Hydrangea’s voice broke through my thoughts of her and Tulip.

“Yea, take a seat.” I offered.

Screenshot-3304

“Oh, by the way, I think the longer hair suits you quite well.” She told me as she got comfortable in the chair.

“Thanks, I just kinda stopped getting it cut. I was surprised how badass it made me look.” I joked, making her laugh.

“You do look pretty badass.”

Screenshot-3308

“Hey guys, I’m starting the bonfire.” Carrot called out to no one in particular.

“Don’t burn yourself this time, I don’t wanna take you to the hospital again.” Maple shouted from the pool.

“What?” Hydrangea asked, half laughing.

“Yea, this idiot managed to light his shorts on fire. He was smart enough to jump in the pool, though he did get pretty burned.” I explained, remembering the incident that occurred only a month ago.

“How brilliant.”

“Hey, it was an accident.” Carrot grunted.

“Doesn’t make it any less funny.” Maple remarked.

——-

Screenshot-3314

“Come on Carrot, its a hot tub, it’s not like you’re gonna drown in it.” Maple teased.

“People have drowned in them before.” He replied nervously. Maple rolled his eyes.

“Yea, unsupervised children. You’re an adult, surrounded by other adults. We’re not gonna let you drown.”

“Fine.” He gave up and climbed into the hot tub.

“So Maple, how have you been? We haven’t talked in so long.” Drea asked him.

“I’m doing ok, I’ve got a good job, some good friends,” He said as he punched Carrot on the shoulder. “And an awesome house. I think I’m doing pretty good. How about you?”

“I’m doing fine.” She sighed. “So, are you still single?”

“Yea, but I’ve got my eye on someone.” He smirked.

“Oh really? Who?”

“It’s a secret.” Maple winked at her and sunk further into the hot tub.

Screenshot-3324

“This thing isn’t that bad.” My half-brother stated.

“Yea man, water isn’t evil” I splashed him, and he frowned.

“You suck.” He crossed his arms and I shrugged. I really loved messing with him.

Screenshot-3325

“Do you guys do this often?” Drea asked.

“Maple and I use it almost every night, it’s a life saver after a stressful day at work.”

“Yea, I bet.”

“I think this would stress me out more.” Carrot remarked. “I think I’m gonna go inside.”

Screenshot-3330

“You sure you don’t wanna stay?” Maple asked, and Carrot shook his head.

“I’d rather be playing video games.”

Screenshot-3332

“You know what, that sounds like a great idea.” He gave me a knowing smile, and I knew exactly what he was thinking. He wanted me to make a move on Drea. Not gonna happen, sorry.

Screenshot-3339

“Don’t have too much fun without me.” He winked at me, making me blush. I glanced over at Drea to see if she understood what was happening, but she was too busy looking at the stars.

Screenshot-3334

I waited until Maple was inside before I said anything else. “Having fun?”

“Lots. You guys have such a cool place.” She beamed.

“Thanks, the hot tub was my idea.” I bragged, and she giggled.

“It was a pretty great idea.”

Screenshot-3321

“You’ve really changed.” She stated.

“So have you.”

“Yea, I used to me pretty uptight. But after losing Tulip, I decided that wouldn’t get me anywhere in life. It took me a while to completely let loose, but now that I have I don’t regret it. I’m the happiest I’ve been since before the incident.” She said. This was the third time I’ve heard someone mention the incident, and I was curious to know what happened. So I asked.

“What incident?”

“It’s not something I can tell just anyone. If you really wanna know, you can meet me at HQ tomorrow at nine o-clock.”

“I thought you didn’t do detective work anymore?”

“I don’t.”

Screenshot-3322

“Will you be there?: She asked hopefully.

“Yea, I don’t see why not.”

“Awesome.” She smiled, and started to get up. “I should get going.”

“Hey, do you wanna dry off by the bonfire for a little while?”

“Sure.”

Screenshot-3342

“You know it’s not your fault, right?” Drea whispered, her voice barely audible over the crackling of the fire.

“I’m pretty sure you’re wrong.” I responded, making her sigh.

“I used to think the same thing. But we can’t control what others do. How were we supposed to know what Clover would do? There’s no way we could’ve known, and there’s nothing we could’ve done. Things like this can only be blamed on the person who actually did the murdering. Not the people around the victim. It took me a while to realize this, and I want you to realize it too.” She sighed.

“Well at least the person the blame for this is in jail for the rest of her life.” I couldn’t even say her name aloud, it hurt too much.

“Yea. River, I want you to think about what I said, okay?” I nodded. “Good, now walk me to my car?”

Screenshot-3343

I walked her up to the front to say goodbye, when she pulled me into a hug. “Thank you, I really needed this.” She whispered into my shoulder.

“Anytime Drea, anytime.” I rubbed her back soothingly.

Screenshot-3348

“So I’ll see you tomorrow?” She asked.

“Yea.” I whispered.

“Good. Night River.” She pulled away from our hug and headed off to her car.

——–

Screenshot-3351

The next morning I arrived at HQ at nine o-clock sharp. As usual, my sister was the only one in the waiting room.

“Hey Fern, is Hydrangea in today? She told me to meet her here today.” I told her as I approached the counter.

Screenshot-3352

“Yea, she’s here. Follow me.” She walked around the counter and ran into the hallway before I could even move.

Screenshot-3353

She entered the door next to Drea’s old office. I’ve never been in that room before, I always assumed it was empty. I guess not.

Screenshot-3357

Fern was just taking a seat when I entered the room. The room had a long table in it, kinda like the one in the backroom. The table was covered in books and it smelled like the library. I took a look around the room, noticing the people sitting at the table.

“What’s going on?” I asked. I thought it was just gonna be Drea and I.

“Oh hey River, glad you could make it. Take a seat.” Drea said.

Screenshot-3365

I took a seat without looking at anyone. I felt oddly out of place even though these people were some of my closest friends.

Drea was still standing there, just staring at an old map on the wall. Everyone else was completely silent, and even though I had a billion questions, I didn’t want to be the one to break the silence. Thankfully I didn’t have too.

“I know you’re confused River. Don’t worry, you’re not in trouble or anything. I’ll explain everything when our last member gets here.” Drea explained.

As if on cue, the door swung open, causing everyone in the room to look up.

Screenshot-3366

“Hey, so sorry I’m late.” The man said. It took me a few seconds, but then I recognized him.

My psycho ex-girlfriend’s father was here.

River Fae Chapter 9: Inspirational Bullsh*t

Warning: Contains strong language.

Screenshot-2899

I couldn’t even look at her when I went into her room. I felt horrible about what I was about to do, but it had to be done.

“Uh hey Clo, can we talk?”

“Sure babe, what’s up?” She got up from her computer and sat on the bed, gesturing for me to sit next to her.

Screenshot-2905

“Is everything okay? You seem tense.” Clover asked.

“Um no, not really.”

“What’s wrong?” She sounded worried, making me feel even worse.

“I can’t do this anymore.”

“What?”

“Clover… I’m so sorry.”

“What the hell are you talking about?” She sounded mad and panicked at the same time.

“I care about you Clover, and I always will. But I can’t be your boyfriend anymore.”

Screenshot-2908

“Why the hell not?” She was screaming now, just like I thought she would. I really hoped the neighbors didn’t call the cops.

“Clover, please calm down. I-”

“Calm down? How can I calm down when you’re fucking breaking up with me! I thought you loved me! What the hell happened?”

“I still do, just not in the way I did before.” I tried to explain, but that made her even angrier.

Screenshot-2910

“I can’t believe you’re doing this, after all we’ve been through. I left my father all alone to be with you, I can’t fucking believe you!” She was trying to guilt trip me, and I was definitely feeling guilty. But I knew things between us were over, no matter how bad she made me feel.

“He had my parents and my uncle. He’s not alone. You didn’t have to leave him, I thought you wanted too.”

“Yea and I thought you loved me.”

“Clover, I did. I really did. I just don’t feel that way anymore.”

“What changed? Why’d you stop?” She asked, her voice quivering as if she were about to cry.

“I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. But I do know that I can’t lead you on anymore.”

Screenshot-2915

“You are a piece of shit, River Fae. I thought you loved me. I was finally happy. I was out of that house, away from everything that made my life depressing, and then you fucking ruin it. How could you ruin my happiness?”

“Clover, that wasn’t my intention. I didn’t want to hurt you, but I’m unhappy.”

“Not everything is about you.” She glared. “You are so fucking selfish.”

Screenshot-2916

“Look, I’m just trying to do what’s best for us. I didn’t want to keep you from finding the right person. If you stay with my for any longer, you could miss your chance with someone who’ll love you for the rest of your life. I don’t wanna take that away from you.”

“I thought I already found him.”

“I know. I’m so sorry. But you will find him, I promise.” I really wanted her to be happy. I hated hurting people like this.

Screenshot-2917

“I don’t want anyone else.” She growled, reminding me of a demon or something.

“Clover, calm down. I know it hurts right now, but you’ll be over it soon. I’m nothing special. You are though, and you’ll find someone perfect for you.”

Screenshot-2919

“Shut up. Shut up. I don’t want to hear anymore of your inspirational bullshit.”

“You know what, fine. I’m sorry I don’t love you anymore. But I’m not happy, and you can’t force me to be with you when I don’t want too. I’m done. This isn’t my problem anymore.” I was starting to get angry too. I didn’t want to be so mean but I had to get my point across.

Screenshot-2922

“Babe, c’mon, you don’t really want to do this. Don’t leave me.” She begged.

“If I didn’t want to do this, I wouldn’t be doing it. I’m sorry Clover, but it’s over.”

Screenshot-2925

“Fine.” She whispered as she started to cry. Her mascara ran down her face, making my heart sink. I always hated seeing people cry.

“Clover,” I started to approach her to comfort her. I wasn’t her boyfriend anymore but that didn’t mean I hated her.

Screenshot-2926

“GET OUT.” She screamed, lunging at me. I jumped back, protecting my junk. I admit she scared me.

“Fine, but Clover, I really am sorry.”

Screenshot-2927

“Fuck you.” She whispered as I left her bedroom.

Screenshot-2931 Screenshot-2932

I went to my own bedroom and curled up on my bed. I could hear her sobbing through the wall. I felt awful. How could I be so heartless? How could I destroy someone’s feelings like that? Why did I have to be so selfish? I didn’t have to dump her. I was a heartless asshole who only thought about himself.

No, I’m being insane. I did the right thing, even if she was hurting right now. I couldn’t lead her on, especially since I was interested in someone else. But still, the sobs coming from the other room were heart wrenching.

I glanced over at the wall, and my eye was drawn to the picture of Clover and I. We seemed so happy, It was hard to believe this is where we ended up. I didn’t want this to happen. I didn’t expect to fall in love with someone else, but I guess that’s just how the world works. But still, I felt terrible for her, and for my mom. I knew my mom wanted us to get married, but that wasn’t what I wanted.

I knew I did the right thing, but I didn’t expect to feel this terrible about it.

——

Screenshot-2984

“So you just dumped the poor girl?” My step-brother’s wife gasped. I felt like I should talk to someone, and I hadn’t seen my brother in a while so I decided he was the one I’d see. His wife, Sha Sha, was a nice woman. She was a lot older than him, but he was happy and that’s all that matters, right?

“Yea. I feel awful about it, but I’d feel even worse if I led her on.” I admitted.

Screenshot-2985

“I just don’t really know how to act around her, y’know? I saw her in the hall this morning, and she ran back into her room the second she saw me. We’re gonna be living there for a while, I don’t know what to do.” The antique couch groaned underneath me as I rested my arms on my knees.

Screenshot-3010

“Give it some time, let her cool down for a while. You guys have known each other your entire lives, she’ll forgive you eventually. Just let her come to you.” Dill offered.

Screenshot-2997

“You make a good point, Babe. But they cant avoid each other forever, they live in the same house. If she doesn’t try talking to you in a week, you should try talking to her.”

“Sha, they dated for five years, I don’t think she can heal from that in a week.”

“Alright, if she doesn’t come to you in a month you go talk to her. That should be enough time to at least talk.”

Screenshot-3001

“Yea, I think a month is a good amount of time. I just hope things don’t get worse, I hate awkward situations.”

“Well you seem pretty good at getting yourself into them.” Sha Sha joked, making the three of us laugh.

Screenshot-3006

“Well I don’t want to waste all of your Leisure Day, so I’m gonna head home.” I announced.

“Are you sure you don’t wanna stay? We’re having a party today, you’re welcome to stay for it.” Sha Sha offered, but I shook my head.

“I can’t, I’ve made plans. But thanks for the offer.” She nodded, and we all got off the couches.

Screenshot-3021

“You need to stop by more.” Dill mumbled as he squished me into a hug.

“I will, you guys have an awesome place.”

“Thanks, it’s the oldest house here. It’s the only house that was here before the scientists started building Sunset Valley.” He explained.

“Wow, that’s pretty awesome.”

“Yea.”

Screenshot-3026

When he finally let go of me, I turned to Sha Sha. “Thanks for helping, it means a lot.”

“Any time kiddo. You can stop by any time, there’s always someone here. I’ve got a bunch of sons, probably around your age. So yea, any time.”

Screenshot-3022

“Oh I will, I’m gonna have to explore this house at some point, see if its haunted.” I half-joked. This house was so old, it had to be crawling with spirits.

“Of course. Bye River.” Sha Sha said. I said my goodbyes and left, I had someone else I needed to see.

——-

Screenshot-3037

“Hey Tulip.” She was alone in her shared bedroom, clicking away on her laptop.

“Hey River, where were you?” She asked, never looking up from the screen.

“I was at my brothers house.”

“Carrot?”

“Nope, my step-brother Dill.”

“You’ve got a lot of siblings.” She laughed.

“Yea, five siblings is a lot, but none of them are full blood siblings. I’m one of a kind.” I joked, making her giggle.

“So, what exactly happened last night? I heard her crying hysterically, so I’m assuming it didn’t go very well.” She swiveled her chair around to face me, and I told her everything.

“I’m a free agent now.” I flirted, making her grin. She stood from her chair and draped her arms around my neck.

Screenshot-3039

“Good.” She kissed me, taking me by surprise.

We stood there kissing for a while, and things kept getting hotter and hotter until I finally picked her up and carried her across the room. I picked her up and pushed her up against the wall and kissed her there.

Screenshot-3043

“Damn, that was hot, Fae.” Tulip moaned.

“That’s nothing, I can show you hot.”

“I’d love to see it.” She said, biting her lip. I picked her up again and carried her out into the hall. I kicked the bathroom door open and walked us over to the shower.

Screenshot-3047

I pushed her up against the shower and she wrapped her legs around my waist.  “This is pretty sexy.” She panted, out of breathe from our constant kissing.

“Good, but this isn’t even the sexy part.” I kissed her neck and ran my hand up her thigh, making her moan again.

“I’m so glad everyone’s out of the house today.” She said, just before we started to undress.

Screenshot-3051

One shower later, Tulip and I sat on the floor of her bedroom. This time was a lot different from my time with Clover. Doing that with Tulip proved to me that I made the right choice. I really did feel bad about hurting Clo, but I hoped she could find someone for her, just like I did.

“That was a lot better than I expected.” Tulip said.

“You thought I’d be bad?” I faked hurt.

“No, just not that good.” She admitted, and we both laughed.

This was only the beginning, but I was happier than I have been in years.

Primrose Fae Chapter 11: Family Ties

*River*

Screenshot-1475

For the past month that name has been stuck in my head. I just had to know who it was. So late one night, I snuck out. It was hard to get dressed without waking Poppy, but I managed. I was gonna take one of the cars, but even though it would take less time it would be more obvious.

Screenshot-1477

I took my dad’s bike up to the cemetery. Usually, I’d never sneak out. But there’d been rumors around school. One of the girls who lives right by it has been talking about ghosts. It seemed childish at first, but as people started talking about ghosts with wings, I had to check it out.

Screenshot-1478

Unfortunately, I wasn’t the only person at the cemetery that night. There were people scattered all around the place, and it made it more likely for me to get caught. But it was too late to back out now.

There was something standing by the grave. Or rather, someone. Screenshot-1479

My heart was pounding so loud in my chest I thought it would burst right out. As I got closer, I realized that this figure was a person. She was obviously a fairy, she had dark blue wings sprouting from her back.

Screenshot-1480

“Hello?” I asked, not sure if she could hear me.

“River? You can see me?” the woman asked cautiously. Her voice echoed and sounded far away, like she was standing on the other side of a cave.

“Um, yea? Who are you and how do you know my name?”

“Oh dear, I’m your grandmother.” She sighed. “You shouldn’t be here. Not at night.”

“What’s your name?” My mom never talked about her mother. She never said anything about her life before the experiment. I never really wondered about my grandparents, I just assumed no one knew their grandparents.

“Flora. I noticed you came by a while ago.” She giggled.

Screenshot-1486

“So we are related. Who’s buried next to you?”

“My husband, your grandfather.” She smiled.

“How did you guys get buried here? I thought you died before the experiment.” It might’ve been an insensitive question, but I was dying to know. No pun intended.

“Well, I died first. Your grandfather was knocked out, and they thought he was dead too. They threw us in a trunk, your grandfather never let go of my body when he woke up, bless him. When they found out he was still alive, they killed him too. They did experiments on out bodies, but when it came time to bury us, they had run out of places in their graveyard. They were still developing this place, so they just dumped us here. They were nice enough to give us headstones though.” She laughed, like she had told a joke. She was a little odd.

“How come they didn’t just cremate the bodies?”

“Good question.” She laughed again. “I’ve got to get going, and you should go too. I’d say tell your mom I said hello, but I wouldn’t want to get you in trouble. Or locked up in a loony bin.” She laughed, and disappeared before I could say goodbye.

——

*Primrose*

Screenshot-1535

“Dad, we’ll come and visit.” Missy promised. She and Dill we’re both out of high school now, she was in the military and he got a job at the theater.

“I know, but I’m still gonna miss you guys.” He stuttered.

“Dad, the trucks here.” Missy laughed, still wrapped in her fathers arms. He let go and smiled sheepishly.

Screenshot-1537

“Bye guys, we’ll call you soon!” Dill said as he and Jeremy put the boxes in the truck. We all waved at them as they drove off.

Screenshot-1538

Their house was just down the mountain from us, so I knew we’d be seeing them pretty often. But still, it was gonna be a little strange without two of our babies at home.

Screenshot-1543

“Babe, do you think they’re gonna be okay?” Jeremy asked for the thousandth time that night.

“Yes, I think they’re gonna be fine. They’re adults now.” I picked up his guitar and handed it to him. “You’re stressed.”

“Thanks Prim, you always know what to do to calm me down.” We spent that night jamming random songs, something we used to do when we were younger. It was nice.

——

*Poppy*

Screenshot-1552

“I am so sick of you!” I yelled at my dumb brother.

“What did I do?” He stuttered. I almost laughed, it was funny how nervous I could make him.

Screenshot-1553

“You are so freaking lame! All you ever do is play video games or make dumb things with that table out back!” My brother was such a nerd, it was so embarrassing. I didn’t even want to call him my brother.

“So? Why does that bother you?”

“Ugh! Because, if you’re lame people will think I’m lame.” I rolled my eyes. How are we even related?

“That doesn’t make any sense.”

Screenshot-1556

“You are so stupid. Don’t even talk to me. I’m tired of seeing your face every single freaking day.”

“Poppy, we share a room.” He bit his lip, trying not to laugh.

“I don’t care. I’ll move into Missy’s old room.” I fumed.

“Whatever.” He crossed his arms.

“Oh, and stay away from Clover. Shes MY best friend.”

Screenshot-1557

“What? Clover chooses to hang out with me, it’s not like I force her too.” He muttered.

“I don’t care, she’s my best friend.” I growled.

“You sure she feels the same? Why do you think she always leaves you for me?” He laughed. I restrained myself from slapping him, Mom said if I hit him again I’d be grounded all summer.

“I hate you River.” I stormed into the kitchen away from my dumb brother. He was ruining my life.

——

*River*

Screenshot-1571

“There’s nothing to do, the rain sucks.” Clover complained. It was her birthday, she had been planning a party at the beach but had to cancel due to the rain.

“Sorry, Clo. We could go play video games?’ I suggested. Clover was really my only friend around here since Misty left. Poppy told me to stay away from her, but I’m not gonna let a child tell me who to hang out with. And besides, Clover likes me better.

“We always play video games, it’s getting old.”

“Then what do you suggest we do?” She looked back at me and sighed.

“River, do you like me?”

“Of course I like you, you’re my best friend.”

“No, I mean romantically.” She smiled nervously and pulled her legs up on the bed.

“What?”

“I really like you, River. I know I’m younger than you, but I’m willing to try and make this work.” She was speaking really fast, I knew that was a nervous habit of hers.

“I-I don’t know what to say.” She laid her palm down on my knee and smiled. “I’ve never really thought about you that way.”

“Then think about it, if it repulses you then I’ll back off. But if it doesn’t, would you want to try?” I thought about it for a moment. Clover and I got along really well. We liked a lot of the same things, and we enjoyed spending time together.

“Clover, you don’t repulse me.” She smiled wide and laid across me.

Screenshot-1575

“Do you really mean that, River?”

“Of course. But what about our parents? I mean, I’m older than you. It could be weird for a while.” Her dad was in the military, he kinda scared me sometimes.

“We can keep it a secret until I’m old enough.”

“It’s gonna be hard.”

“I know. But I’m willing to try, are you?” She asked.

“Yea.” I smiled at her.

Screenshot-1579

She swung he leg over me and kissed me hard on the lips. She caught me off guard, I was so shocked I almost bit her tongue. But I didn’t, so I kissed her back. Kissing was something I wasn’t very experienced in and I was pretty self conscious. I didn’t want her to think I was a bad kisser.

“I’m so glad you’re gonna try, River. I’ve been dreaming about this for so long.” She told me when she pulled back for air.

“I had no idea.” She laughed and kissed me again.

Screenshot-1580

For the rest of the evening we alternated between making out and talking. Now, we were cuddling on her bed just talking. We were chatting about school, our friends, and our after school activities.

“River, did you know my mother, before she died?” She asked me suddenly.

“I-I did.” Chrissy wasn’t someone I liked talking about.

“What was she like?”

“I was only four when she died, I don’t remember that much about her. But I do remember that she was really loud, and she laughed a lot.” I answered honestly. “My mom and her were best friends, I bet my mom could tell you all about her.”

“I’ll have to ask her.” She smiled sadly. I couldn’t imagine my life without my mother. She was one of my best friends, no matter how lame that sounds.

“It’s getting late, I should probably head home before my mom suspects something.” We sat up and I shrugged sadly. We climbed off the bed and she walked me to her bedroom door.

Screenshot-1584

“Goodnight River.” She shifted slightly onto her tip-toes and kissed me. I touched her face gently and pulled back.

“Goodnight Clover, sleep well.” I pecked her one last time and left her bedroom. I touched my lips gingerly, they were swollen from all the kissing from the day. Hopefully mom won’t notice. I thought to myself as I headed down her stairs.

——

*Primrose*

Screenshot-1590

Now that all of our kids were out of the house during the day, Jeremy and I had some alone time. We worked nights so we slept in and just hung out around the house. Today started out just like any other. Jeremy and I were on the couch watching a random movie, just enjoying each others company.

Our down time was interrupted when the doorbell rang. “I’ll get it.” I told my husband, pulling myself off the couch. I threw the door open carelessly, expecting the maid. But the person behind the door was definitely not our maid.

I couldn’t breathe. This couldn’t be real. I must have made some kind of noise, because Jeremy jumped up from the couch and was behind me in a few seconds.

Screenshot-1593

I hadn’t seen him in so long. He was obviously much older now, and he looked so different, but I knew it was definitely him.

“H-how,” I started, but then I remembered he couldn’t hear me. I fumbled with my hands, trying to remember the sign language I learned all those years ago.

“Prim, I can hear you just fine.” He said, his voice was deep and scratchy, like it had been strained recently.

“B-but how?”

Screenshot-1596

“It’s a long story, can I come in? It’s raining pretty hard right now.” He asked nervously.

“Oh god, of course, come in.” I ushered him in, getting a closer look.

Screenshot-16...

Screenshot-1597

Despite the huge scar covering his face, I knew without a doubt this was my baby brother.

——

A/N Sorry this chapter is a little all over the place. But I think Prim is gonna have 3-4 more chapters, and then our next heir will take over. I’ll put the heir vote up soon (probably later today or tomorrow), before Prim’s gen is over so I can have it up while I play/write and so I can focus more on the winner’s story. Thanks so much for reading, it means so much!

Primrose Fae Chapter 10: The Truth Comes Out

Screenshot-1330

Time was flying by way too fast for me to register it. Dill was in his last year of high school, and River was just about to start eighth grade. Our three kids were so close, they rarely ever fought and they always hung out with each other. It made our lives a lot easier.

Screenshot-1334

River was a lanky little thing, he was so skinny I thought he would fly away. But I knew he would bulk up soon, he was really into sports. He joined the basketball team at his school, and he was always in the backyard shooting hoops. He often pulled Dill out with him, even though Dill wasn’t much competition. He was more of a musical guy.

Screenshot-1347

I was so thankful that the teenagers didn’t give us trouble, because Poppy was a handful. Ever since she became a toddler, she was throwing tantrums left and right. She was always screaming about something. It was usually about the highchair though, she hated that thing.

“Please Princess, calm down.” Jeremy cooed at our kicking toddler. She didn’t listen and continued to fight, so he pulled her out of the chair.

Screenshot-1349

“Do you know what happens to little girls who are bad?” Jeremy taunted. Poppy shook her head, tears still running down her face.

Screenshot-1350

“The tickle monster come for them!” He laughed and started tickling her. She screamed with laughter, all traces of her tantrum flew out the window. I watched them from the kitchen with a smile on my face. Poppy could be a handful but at least my husband knew how to deal with her.

Screenshot-1355

The only time Poppy didn’t scream was when Clover was over. The two of them were as thick as thieves. Clover was a little older than her and she could talk in full sentences, but they still had fun playing together. They reminded me so much of Chrissy and I, their personalities were so different but they worked well together. My little Poppy was loud, sneaky, and rebellious. Clover on the other hand, was much quieter and was usually a follower.

Screenshot-1359

I babysat Clover during the week while Hero was at work. All I had to do was put them in front of the dollhouse and they could keep themselves busy for hours.

“My dolly is da daddy and yours is da mommy.” Poppy explained to Clover. I bit my lip and waited for Clover’s response.

“What’s a Mommy?” Clover asked, cocking her head like a confused puppy.

“Hello?” Hero’s voice boomed from downstairs. Thank god.

“We’re up here.” I called out.

Screenshot-1361

“Hi honey.” Clover threw her dolls down and reached up for her dad. Poppy pouted, she didn’t like her friend giving anyone else attention.

“Daddy!” She squealed as he adjusted her on his hip. He kissed her on the forehead.

Screenshot-1363

“I missed you sweetie.” He turned to me and smiled. “Thanks Prim.”

I looked up from my book and waved him off. “No problem. Poppy loves the company.” We laughed, and he left.

As they were leaving, I heard Clover ask “Daddy, what’s a mommy?” His footsteps stopped on the stairs. He didn’t respond and left the house as fast as he could.

I felt terrible about what happened, but I didn’t have much time to dwell on it because Poppy started another tantrum.

Our evening had started just like any other, me doing my daily exercise routine, and Dill practicing one of his many instruments. Misty was out with Dad getting driving lessons, and Mom and Poppy were both already asleep. I guessed they had a hard day. I’m not a bad kid, neither is my brother. But tonight we were alone, and there was something I really wanted to do.

Screenshot-1371

I clicked off my video and headed toward my brother, motioning for him to put his guitar down.

“Hey, can you give me a ride?” I whispered in his ear,

“Where to? Did mom say it was okay?”

“No, I didn’t want to wake her up. Besides, you’re almost eighteen, have you even done anything remotely rebellious?” I cocked an eyebrow and he sighed.

“Fine, but we’ve gotta be back by curfew, okay?” He searched the room for his keys.

“But that’s like, in an hour! It’s gonna take us at least twenty minutes to get there.”

“What? Where are we going?” He put his keys down on the desk.

“The cemetery. I wanna check those unmarked graves out.” He gave me a bewildered look and shook his head.

“No way man. The thugs hang out there at night. We can’t.”

“We’ll only be there for five minutes, I promise.” I begged.

Screenshot-1376

Twenty minutes later we arrived at the cemetery. I jumped out of the car and took off running for the graves. There were two unmarked graves right next to where Chrissy was buried. My mom said they must’ve been put here before any of us moved here. No one could figure out what they said, but I think they weren’t trying hard enough.

Screenshot-1378

The graves were fenced off with a gray fence that was about up to my waist. People weren’t supposed to go over the fence, but I needed to get a closer look.

“River, I don’t know if this is a very good idea.” Dill gave me a weary look.

“We’ll be fine, I promise.” I said, and started to squeeze myself through the small space in the fence. Once I was in, Dill followed suit.

Screenshot-1379

I chose one of the graves at random and knelt down in front of it. It was covered in dirt and starting to fall apart in some places. It was obviously cheaply made and not well cared for. I brushed some of the dirt off with my hands, revealing some words.

“River, we should get going.” Dill was looking over at the street with a nervous look on his face. I craned my neck to see what he was looking at. A car had parked, a man about my fathers age got out of the car and let a woman out of the passenger seat. He was purple, and his hair color was similar to mine. I ignored them and got back to cleaning off the grave.

“I’ll be fast, okay? I’ve already got something.” I assured him. I got down closer to the grave, the tiny letters were carved crudely into the stone, spelling out a name. Flora Fae.

“What does it say?” Dill whispered.

“Flora Fae. She has the same last name as me, do you think we’re related?”

“It’s a possibility, but River we’ve gotta go.” He pulled me off the ground and took off running.

Screenshot-1383

I slowly jogged after him, my mind occupied with thoughts of this mysterious Flora. Was she related to me? Maybe my parents know who she is. I couldn’t ask them though, at least not yet. Maybe I could come back this weekend and check out the other grave. Is that person a relative too? It was all so exciting.

Screenshot-1385

It was almost midnight when we got home. The house was quiet so I knew Mom was still asleep. Dill and I grabbed some leftovers from the fridge when then front door opened.

“What are you two boys still doing up?” Dad asked as he headed for the fridge.

“We lost track of time, you know how video games are.” I never lied to my parents, I was surprised at how easy it was.

Screenshot-1386

“Ah, I know how it is.” Dad laughed. “I won’t tell Mom, I promise.” We were lucky our parents were so cool.

“How did driving lessons go?” Dill wiggled his eyebrows, and Dad groaned. Misty was a bit reckless, and had a short temper with everyone but me.

“I bet you can guess.” Dad rubbed his temple, making us laugh again. “You boys should head to bed before your mom wakes up.” He suggested, throwing his juice box in the trash and headed up the stairs.

I said goodnight to Dill and followed Dad up the stairs. Poppy was still asleep, so I had to be quiet so I wouldn’t wake her up. I did that once on accident, and she wouldn’t stop crying for hours. I felt so bad, my mom couldn’t sleep all night.

I usually didn’t have trouble sleeping, but that night my mind was racing too fast to relax. There was too much to think about.

Screenshot-1396

“River, can you get dressed and go downstairs please? Your father and I need to talk to you.” I told my son, who was playing blocks with Poppy on the other side of the room.

“Sure thing, Mom.” He smiled at me and stood up. I gave him a stiff smile and quickly left the room.

Today Jeremy and I were going to tell River the truth. He was older now, and even though I really didn’t want to, I knew it was time. River was usually a calm, quiet kid but I was terrified to see how he reacts. My heart was pounding as I went to find Jeremy, who ended up being in the kitchen.

Screenshot-1399

Five minutes later, River sat on the couch and Jeremy and I stood in front of him. I balled and unballed my fists nervously.

“Mom, what’s going on?” River looked between the two of us nervously.

“River, sweetie, there’s something I need to tell you.” My voice wavered. I took a seat on one side of him and Jeremy did the same on the other.

“You guys are really scaring me.” He admitted, looking back and forth.

Screenshot-1401

I rested my chin in my hands and fixed my gaze on the table.

“River, we love you. So much. What I’m about to say won’t change that, okay?” I couldn’t look at him. I didn’t want him to see me cry.

“Mom… this is really freaking me out.”

“Honey, I bet you’ve noticed that you’re different from Dad and I, right?”

“Yea, I just assumed I had recessive genes.” He told me, I could tell he didn’t believe that. “Wait, are you saying I’m adopted?”

“No, you’re definitely my son. I can’t forget those hours of labor.” I joked. “It’s just, well. Dad isn’t you’re biological dad.”

“What?”

“You’re father was my boss. We um… had an affair of sorts. He lived with me, and we were dating for a few months. One day I found out he was engaged, and he left me. The next day, I found out I was pregnant with you.” I summarized the story, I didn’t want him to hear the specifics.

Screenshot-1403

“Y-you’re not my Dad?” River jumped off the couch and looked down at Jeremy. Both of their expressions were filled with pain, it broke my heart.

“I may not be your biological Dad, but I love you like my own son.” Jeremy told him.

“So does this mean, Misty and Dill are my… step siblings? And Poppy is my half sister?” I nodded sadly. He glared at me. “You lied to me. How am I supposed to trust any of you ever again? This is bullshit!” He yelled. I’ve never heard my son curse. I cursed plenty in my life, but it was still shocking to hear it from your fourteen year old son.

“River Fae, we don’t cuss in this house. I know you’re upset, but that kind of language is inappropriate.” Jeremy scolded.

“Why do I have to listen to you?” He screamed, tears started streaming down his face.

“Please calm down baby.” I stood up and tried to pull him into a hug. He pushed me off him lightly.

“Leave me alone.” He his voice cracked, and he took off running out of the house.

“Oh Jeremy, I messed up so bad.” I buried my face in the nape of his neck. “What if he doesn’t come back?”

Screenshot-1404

“Don’t worry, Love. You didn’t mess up. And he’ll be back. He just needs to calm down a little.” He stood on his toes and kissed me on the forehead. “I think I know someone who can help.”

*River*

Screenshot-1409

Everything I knew was a lie. My Dad wasn’t really my dad. My siblings weren’t really my siblings. My real father had no idea I even existed.

Sure, I thought it was strange that Dill, Misty and I were all vampires and our parents were fairies. But I never really gave it a second thought. Does this mean that my father is a vampire? What about Misty and Dill? Did they have the same mother or different mothers? It was all too much. My mind was racing. I knew I shouldn’t have snapped at my parents, I was just too upset to think rationally. I really hope they don’t punish me.

I’m not really sure how I ended up at the park. I’ve only been to this park a few times, I preferred the park a few blocks over when I was younger. But I guess something drew me to this park.

Screenshot-1411

“Hey River.” A voice broke through my cloud of thoughts. I looked up from the swing, and my ‘sister’ stood nervously beside me.

“Yea?”

“You okay?” I glared at her. “Okay, dumb question. How’re you doing?”

I ignored her question. “Did you know?”

“River…” Her voice trailed.

“Did. You. Know.” I growled.

“I did.” She admitted.

“Why didn’t you ever tell me?” I jumped off the swing and yelled, the few other people at the park looked over.

“Please River, calm down.” She whispered, looking around nervously. “Come here.”

Screenshot-1414

She pulled me into a tight hug. Once her arms were around me, I couldn’t hold it back anymore. I don’t cry often, let alone in public. But right now I didn’t care. She held me while I cried, comforting me by rubbing circles on my back.

“I love you, River. I don’t care if we’re related by blood, you’re as much of a brother to me as Dill is.”

“I love you too.” I croaked. My throat was dry from crying so much. “Do you know her?”

“Know who?” She pulled back a little and looked me in the eyes.

“You’re real mother.”

Screenshot-1415

“No, nor do I want too.” She stated. “Why?”

“I don’t know. I might want to meet my real dad.”

“I don’t know if that’s a very good idea River…”

“I’ll think about it.” I wanted to know what he was like.

“Okay. Well, I think I’m gonna head back home, coming?”

“Can you give me a ride to the gym, I need to cool down a bit before facing Mom and Dad again.” I asked hopefully.

“Sure, but they aren’t mad at you. They understand that you’re upset.” She smiled, her braces sparkled in the sunlight. We left the park arm-in-arm. I wasn’t as upset as I was before, but I definitely had a lot of questions for my mom.

Primrose Fae Chapter 9: Right Here, Right Now

Screenshot-1211

The past few months had been really hard on me. What Jeremy told me was hard to process. I wasn’t mad at him, I knew it wasn’t his fault. It was just hard to find out the truth about what happened. It was also a little strange to me that he was half human. He didn’t look human at all, he told me he took after his mom mainly except for his eyes. But still, it was weird.

There was also the stuff that Chrissy told me. I still couldn’t figure out if it was just because I missed her or if she really did contact me in my dreams. I had no way of finding out if I was really royal or not, the humans has taken all of our historic documents into observation. I hadn’t had another dream like that since that night. So I came to the conclusion that it was just how my subconscious was dealing with my grief.

It was really hard to get through most days. Jeremy was always there to help, but he couldn’t always give me what I needed. I needed a girlfriend, and I wasn’t sure I could ever replace the one I had.

Today was one of those hard days. I sat in my living room with my head down on the couch cushion. I was crying silently, even though I was alone. Or so I thought.

Screenshot-1212

I didn’t even feel the couch dip when he sat down on it, I guess it’s because he’s still so small.

“Momma, are you sad?” River questioned. My head shot up to look at him. He was sitting on the other end of the couch, leaning towards me.

“I’m okay sweetie.” My voice cracked.

“You’re too pretty to cry, Momma.” River smiled innocently.

“Thanks baby. But everyone gets sad sometimes.”

“Are you sad about Chrissy?” He whispered. I nodded, and her frowned. “I miss her too Momma. But you know what always makes me feel better?”

“Whats that?”

“A kiss!”

Screenshot-1214

He jumped off the couch and took my head in his small hands. He kissed me softly on the forehead. “I love you Momma.”

“I love you too baby, thanks for making me feel better.” River was such a sweet kid, he was always trying to cheer everyone up, or make someone feel good. He was a great kid, and I couldn’t have asked for a better son.

“No problem Momma, I like making you smile, it’s so pretty.”

My boy was too cute.

——

Screenshot-1220

“How was you’re day, Love?” Jeremy asked me later that evening as we stood in our bedroom.

“Hard. Thank god for River though, he cheered me up a bit.” Jeremy smiled.

“Yea, he’s pretty great at that.”

“He must get it from you.” We giggled. River didn’t get his personality from me or his actual father.

“I think I know how to make your day even better.” He smiled.

“Oh really?” I flirted, giving him a questioning look.

“Yes really.” He started to lower himself to the floor.

Screenshot-1221

“Jeremy, what are you doing?”

“Something I should’ve done a long time ago.” He was down on one knee now, and he was reaching into his pajama pants pocket.

Screenshot-1223

He pulled out a small black box and opened it, revealing a beautiful engagement ring.

“Primrose, I’ve had a crush on you since you started working at the theater. I didn’t act on it at first, because you were so badass it was intimidating. When I met Becca, my crush went away, but I still thought you were gorgeous. After Becca threw me and the kids out, I was so lost. I had no idea how I was gonna raise two kids on my own. When we ran into each other at the park that day, I knew it was meant to be. You saved me from a dark place in my life, and I owe you my life for that. I love you Primrose, and we’ve been a family for so long now, and I think it’s time to make that family official. Marry me. Right here right now.” Only Jeremy could use the word ‘badass’ and mention an ex girlfriend in his proposal.

“Yes! And no. I’ll marry you, but not right this second. I want the kids with us. This wedding isn’t just for us, it’s for our family.” I replied, a smile spread so tight across my face I felt like my head was going to explode.

“This Saturday then? Just you me and the kids.”

“I’d love that. I love you, Jeremy.”

Screenshot-1226

“I love you too, Prim.” He kissed me on my cheek. “C’mon love, lets celebrate.” He winked and pulled me too the bed.

——

Screenshot-1232

We decided to get married on the same beach Chrissy and Hero got married on. We invited Hero, but he was exhausted from taking care of Clover all night so he stayed home. I let Missy do my hair, she made it wavy with her curling iron and put it up. It looked amazing, she was pretty talented.

So, we all stood in the sand in our formal wear, no wedding decorations or anything. We probably looked ridiculous, but we didn’t care.Screenshot-1234

Screenshot-1236

Screenshot-1239

We kept our vows short and sweet. We didn’t want River to get bored, and I didn’t really know how to put my emotions into words. Mainly the last reason… But anyway, it was a gorgeous wedding and more importantly we were finally an official family.

Screenshot-1240

And of course, in a true newly-wed fashion, we came home and immediately consummated our marriage.

*Hero*

Screenshot-1244

I snuggled Clover closer to me. “Hey Clo, it’s your birthday today.” I whispered quietly to the bundle in my arms. She gurgled in response and I chuckled. Even though she couldn’t talk yet she always tried to respond to me.

I took her into our bedroom and laid her down on the bed while I changed into my everyday clothes.

“C’mon Princess, lets go celebrate.” I lifted my daughter off the bed slowly and carried her downstairs.

Screenshot-1251

The birthday cake was already set up. We were celebrating alone, the Fae’s were all out that day. Everyone wanted to distract themselves today. I know I did too.

I carried her to the cake, lit the candle and sang happy birthday softly to the baby in my arms. I blew the candle out for her when I was done and sat her on the floor. I stood back and watched my baby transition.

Screenshot-1253

When the sparkles cleared, a gorgeous little toddler sat where my baby used to be. She had her mother’s hair and my eyes. She reminded me so much of her mother, it made my chest ache.

Screenshot-1257

I scooped her up into my arms. “Hey Clo, wanna go visit Mommy?” I cooed. She giggled, so I took that as a yes.

Screenshot-1259

Fifteen minutes later we stood at the familiar grave spot. I sat Clover on the ground and faced my wife’s headstone.

“It’s been a year, Chrissy. I still miss you so much. I wake up in the middle of the night and reach for you, until I realize you’re gone. It’s been so hard Chrissy. I don’t know how to live without you. Clover and I need you Chrissy.” I sobbed, Clover gurgling innocently by my feet. “I miss you Chrissy. We all do. I promise, you won’t be forgotten. I promise our daughter will know what an amazing woman you were. I love you, my little flower.”

I always spoke to Chrissy when I came to visit. I was usually the only one there, the only other graves here were some unmarked ones and ones for pets. Even if someone else was here, I still talked to her. I didn’t care if I seemed crazy, she was too important for me to care.

Screenshot-1262

I picked up Clover and tossed her in the air. She screamed with delight and I smiled. Clover was the only person who could cheer me up. It was hard for me to love her at first, but her giggling was so sweet and innocent, I couldn’t blame her for what happened anymore.

“We love you Chrissy.” I blew a kiss at the headstone and headed out, Clover bouncing on my hip.

——

*Primrose*

Screenshot-1266

“River, how would you feel about being a big brother?” I stopped River by the shared mailbox, he was probably heading over to see Clover, who had just become a toddler.

Screenshot-1268

“That would be so cool!” He squealed. “I’ve always wanted a younger sibling Momma!”

“Well you’re in luck buddy, your Daddy and I are having another baby!” I announced. His face lit up and he jumped up and down.

“This is so exciting Momma, I can’t wait! When are they coming?”

“In a few months, so we gotta be patient.” I smiled. His smiled dropped a little.

“Aw man. That soo long.” He whined. But then his face lit up again “But its still gonna be so cool!”

Screenshot-1269

“Where is the baby, Momma?”

“They’re in my tummy, would you like to feel?” He nodded and I placed his hand on my tiny bump.

“I can’t feel anything.” He frowned.

“Yea, they’re still really tiny, but you’ll be able to feel them soon.” He smiled. “Now you can’t tell Daddy, he doesn’t know yet.” I put my fingers to my lips. He nodded and ran into Hero’s house. I smiled and shook my head.

“What doesn’t Daddy know yet?” A deep voice asked from our porch.

“Well that Daddy doesn’t know that in a few months he’s going to be a Daddy of four instead of three.” I smirked as I watched his expression changed. It went from questioning, to confusion then to excitement.

“Oh my god, you’re pregnant?” He squealed like a child. I nodded, my eyes starting to leak tears. He ran down the stairs and immediately put his hand on my stomach.

Screenshot-1271

“Oh my god Primrose, I can’t wait.” he looked up at me, his eyes watering too.

“I’m nervous.” I admitted. When I found out we were expecting, my immediate reaction was panic. I was scared, no doubt about it after what happened with Clover’s birth. I knew it was silly, that kind of thing isn’t very common. But still I was afraid.

“That’s understandable, babe. But I promise, I won’t let anything happen to you or our baby.” I smiled through my tears. I was so thankful I had the father in my life this time around.

——

Screenshot-1282

This pregnancy went by a lot faster than my pregnancy with River. It’s funny how much has changed since then. I had a real family now, and I didn’t have anything to worry about.

“Prim, I can feel her kicking.” Jeremy and I had found out we were having a girl. When she’s born, we’ll have two sons and two daughters. A perfect balance.

“She probably trying to kick her way out.” We laughed, I was almost a week over my due date, and if I didn’t go into labor by tomorrow, I was gonna have to be induced.

“Why don’t you try exercising? I read online that that can help induce labor.” Jeremy suggested. We had tried a few things already and so far nothing has worked.

Screenshot-1287

So I ran upstairs and changed into some work out clothes and put on an old exercise video. I did all the stupid routines for about an hour, until I got bored and had to pee.

Screenshot-1291

When I went to the bathroom, a horrible pain ripped through my abdomen. I freaked out, Chrissy was found in her bathroom, and I thought this was a bad sign.

“Jeremy!” I yelled.

“Prim, is it time?” Jeremy yelled as he ran down the stairs. Screenshot-1294

“I think s-AHH” I screamed as a contraction hit. Jeremy rushed in the bathroom and helped me out to the car.

Screenshot-1297

Five minutes later we were rushing into the hospital. We were more than ready to have this baby.

Screenshot-1302

Later that night we brought home our new daughter. We named her Poppy, Jeremy came up with the name late one night. We both loved it and so it stuck. We set up a crib in River’s room, he really didn’t mind sharing, he’s a very heavy sleeper so the baby’s cries won’t wake him at night.

Screenshot-1307

Once Poppy was settled, Jeremy pulled me into a kiss.

“Thank you Prim.” He whispered softly against my cheek. “She’s beautiful.”

“I could’t have done it without you.” I smirked. Our moment was interrupted by the bedroom door flying open, revealing a wide eyed River standing in the hall.

“Is that her? Can I see her?” He cried with excitement.

“Of course Bud, just be quiet, she’s sleeping.” Jeremy said, ushering him toward the crib.

Screenshot-1309

“Wow, she’s so tiny.” He whispered, pressing his face against the side of the crib. “She’s so pretty Momma.”

“She is.” I smiled and Jeremy wrapped his arm around my waist.

“Was I ever this tiny?” I laughed.

“You were actually smaller, Poppy is a pretty big baby.” River looked up at us with a bewildered expression.

“I don’t believe that.” We all giggled softly, then he turned to the two of us with a serious expression. “Momma, how come her skin color matches Daddy’s, but mine doesn’t match either of yours?”

Oh god. I was not ready to explain this. Not yet. “River, it’s passed your bedtime, isn’t it?” He frowned at the change of subject, but thankfully let it go for the night.

Happy new year guys! Thanks for reading so far, and I hope you all have a great 2014.
