Generation 5 Prologue

Screenshot-7895

“Please, Clementine. Please don’t give me trouble today.” My nanny, Nutmeg, practically begged. This was our daily routine, she had to dress me in whatever ridiculous outfit my mommy picked out for whatever royal function that was happening that day.

“No dresses!” I pouted.

“Mommy needs you to wear one, its your pretty princess dress. Won’t that be nice?”

Screenshot-7897

“No! Dresses ugly!” I protested. I hated the stupid dresses my mommy made me wear, the frilly pink gowns were dreadful and uncomfortable.

Nutmeg sighed and ran her fingers through her hair, visibly frustrated. “If you wear the dress, I’ll take you and Hawk outside to play.”

Screenshot-7898

I considered it. Hawk was Nutmeg’s son and my best friend, they lived here in the castle with us. Mommy said we were better than them, but I wasn’t so sure. They didn’t have to wear ugly clothes and sit in boring meetings or have their pictures taken a million times. They just got to be normal, and I was jealous.

Screenshot-7899

“Nutmeg, why isn’t she dressed yet?” My mommy’s harsh voice scolded the nanny.

“She’s being difficult again.” Nutmeg sighed again. “She really doesn’t want to wear the dress.”

“She’s a baby for gods sake! Who cares what she wants, just dress her! She can’t overpower you.”

Screenshot-7900

“Y-yes your majesty. I’ll get right on it.”

“Thank you, and when you’re done with that, please remove your child. He can stay in the castle, but I don’t want him socializing with Clementine too much. She’s better than you common folk.”

Screenshot-7903

“No! He’s my friend!” I cried, I didn’t understand why my mommy didn’t want me to be friends with him.

“Oh, Clementine, you’re so much better than him. He’s not your friend, he’s just the help.” My mommy laughed, but I didn’t really think what she said was funny.

Screenshot-7902

“No! No dresses! Hawk stays!” I started to cry, making my mommy’s face scrunch up like she smelled something bad.

Screenshot-7904

“Ugh, deal with this. I have to go make sure Aloe is ready for our appearance.” She turned and walked out, the clacking of her heels echoing through my large bedroom.

Her leaving made me cry even harder. Why didn’t my mommy ever comfort me when I was upset? Hawk’s mommy always did that for him, while my mommy only ever held me for pictures.

Screenshot-7906

“Shh, it’s ok.” Nutmeg scooped me into her arms and cuddled me. “It’ll be over before you know it, then you can come back here and play all you want.”

“W-with Hawk?” I sniveled.

“We’ll see honey, we’ll see.” She rubbed my back soothingly, and I realized that Nutmeg was more of a mommy to me than my actual one.

Screenshot-7909

Growing up in a castle might seem magical, but my experience was anything but. Sure, there were more rooms than I could count and more cars than people, but I didn’t want these things. I didn’t want the intricate dresses or the constant flow of gifts from the ‘subjects’ in my mom’s kingdom. I just wanted to be normal.

Screenshot-7914

The only bit of normalcy I had in my life was Hawk. Whenever we played together, I was able to forget about my royal life and feel like a regular kid. He’d lend me clothes whenever we played together, the dresses my mom made me wear were hard to play in. I liked boys clothes better anyways.

Screenshot-7919

There were a few perks of living in a castle though, the backyard was full of play equipment and cool things for Hawk and I to do whenever we were back there. We’d often run from activity to activity, we could never decide what we wanted to do so we’d just try to do everything.

“What should we do today?” I asked him as we sat in the sand.

Screenshot-7926

“I dunno, but we shouldn’t be outside long, it’s cold.” Ah, typical Hawk, always cautious.

“Don’t be such a weenie,” I teased. “But if you want I guess we could go play video games in my room.” I suggested, I hated being in my room but I did like video games.

“Really?” His eyes lit up, I knew he wouldn’t suggest we do that, but I also knew that’s what he wanted to do.

Screenshot-7922

“Yea, I don’t really mind. Besides, if I’m looking at the video game I don’t have to see my hideous room.” I laughed.

“Oh, ok.” He smiled at me before jumping up. “C’mon, I’ll race ya.”

Screenshot-7929

“Hey! No fair, you got a head start!” I jumped up as well but he was already halfway to the deck.

“It’s not my fault you’re slow!” He laughed as he took off inside the castle.

————–

Screenshot-7940

Hawk beat me to my bedroom, so I was determined to beat him at video games. I stared intensely at the screen while pressing the appropriate buttons as fast as I could.

“You are so going down, Hawk.” I trash-talked through gritted teeth.

Screenshot-7942Screenshot-7938

“Yea, I know. You’ve got all the high scores on every single one of these machines. There’s no beating the master.” Hawk admitted with a small laugh. I blushed a little, it was a little embarrassing that I took this so seriously.

“Well how about we play the table ones? That way we can play against each other.” I offered.

“Alright, but I bet you’re still gonna win.”

Screenshot-7947

We made our way over to one of the table games and started it up.

“Do you have to do any royal stuff today?” Hawk asked.

“I usually don’t know about the stuff until right before it happens. But hopefully I don’t, I’d rather play this all day.”  I pressed the buttons and made my character shoot his. “That royal stuff is so dumb.”

“Yea, it is. I wish you could go to regular school too, it would be a lot more fun with you there.” Hawk sighed. He went to the local public school while I had a private tutor who taught me everything I needed to know.

Screenshot-7949

“Me too. You’re really the only person I know my age. I’d like to have some other friends too.”

“Yea I wish you could play with my friends, they’re really cool.”

I was about to respond when the bedroom door flung open.

Screenshot-7953

“Clementine Fae, what on earth is going on in here?” My mom yelled. She looked like her face was gonna blow up, that’s how mad she was.

“Hawk and I are playing video games.” I responded calmly.

“Get out, now!” My mom screeched at my best friend. He looked terrified, and simply nodded before jumping up and running out of the room.

Screenshot-7956

“Mom!” I yelled at her, angry with how mean she was being.

“Oh Clementine, you should know by now that you’re too good for him.” My mom pouted.

Screenshot-7960

“No, that’s not true! We’re no better than anyone else. Why are you so stuck up?” I exploded. I knew I shouldn’t be talking to my mom like that, but she was just being so terrible.

“We are better than everyone else! We own them, dear. I am in charge here. You will not be hanging out with him anymore, I don’t want you to be influenced by him.”

“I need interaction with people my own age, Mom! He’s the only one I know. It’s not fair.”

“Fine. But your time together will be short and restricted.”

Screenshot-7963

I stomped my foot on the floor, making my mom look me over. “Clementine, what in the world are you wearing?” She looked as if she would pass out.

“This is what I’m comfortable in.” I retorted.

“You look hideous. You’re a girl, you should dress like one. I better not see you in this filth ever again.”

Screenshot-7970

“That’s not fair! The dresses you pick out for me are awful! I want to wear these clothes.”

“Oh Clementine, you’ll learn some taste as you grow up. You’ll thank me in the long run.” She smiled slyly, as if she knew me better than I knew myself.

“Yea right.” I pouted.

“I really don’t have time for this. Change into something else. I’ll have the nanny come get you for dinner in an hour.” She spun on her ridiculously high heels and walked out of my room.

Screenshot-7974

As soon as she was gone I climbed up on my bed and brought my knees to my chest. I didn’t even care that my shoes were getting dirt all over the bed. The bed was dumb and ugly anyway.

I hated my mom. I hated my life here. I was always being told what to do and how to act, I was never allowed to be myself. She was so controlling. I wished that Nutmeg was my mom, or that I lived with my real dad.

Aloe was just my step-dad. He hated me, it was pretty obvious. He’d only be near me for public appearances and then he’d get as far away from me as he possible could soon after. I always wondered what my real dad was like. Why wasn’t he here? Did he love me? Did he even know I existed?

I couldn’t help but fantasize about a better life with my real dad. I would do anything to get out of here.

Lake Fae Chapter 21: Finale

Screenshot-7844

My entire body ached. Every single part of it felt like it was on fire.

I couldn’t remember what happened at first. But after a few agonizing minutes, I remembered. The future. The drugs. The explosive. That’s why I hurt so bad.

Where was I? I tried to open my eyes but they wouldn’t budge. Was I dead? No, I could feel my body, I was pretty sure I was alive.

The more I woke up, the more aware of my surroundings I became. I heard soft chatter around me and a small, annoying beep every few seconds.

Screenshot-7846

Finally, I woke up enough to move. I pulled myself into an awkward sitting position, I had to pull my left leg up because for some reason it wasn’t moving. Must be the pain meds, they probably haven’t worn off yet.

“What’s going on?” I asked, as I looked around the hospital room.

Screenshot-7849

Everyone was here. Why? I was just knocked out, right?

“Oh Lake, baby, you’re awake.” Ginger leaned forward and pressed the nurse button on my bed.

“What’s going on?” I asked again.

“Do you remember what happened?” She asked softly.

“Yea kinda, am I ok?”

“Lake, the doctor is gonna see you soon. We’ll have him explain.” My dad chimed in.

Screenshot-7854

“How’re you feeling?” Allium asked, his voice full of concern.

“Tired, sore, kinda like I’m on fire.” I laughed slightly, but stopped when I felt a horrible pain from my stomach.

“We can have the nurse give you more pain meds.” Ginger softly put her hand over mine.

“How long have I been out?”

“Almost a week, babe. They had to do a few surgeries, but that’s done now.” Ginger explained.

“What? What even happened? I thought I was just knocked out.” I responded in disbelief.

Screenshot-7855

“You fucking idiot, you blew up my supply closet! Why would you do that?” Stone practically exploded with anger.

“W-what? No I didn’t. Stone, I blew up the time machine. Remember? You built it so we could try and save Skye.” I didn’t care that we were surrounded by everyone, I needed to explain myself.

“What are you talking about? I never built a time machine, Lake. That’s not possible.” Why was he lying? Why was he acting like it never happened?

“Stone, it’s ok, we can trust these people. We can talk about it in front of them.” I assured him.

“Dude, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“B-but I travelled to the future!”

“Lake, the thing you blew up was a supply closet, that’s it. I never built a time machine, you never travelled to the future.” Stone looked baffled, as if he really had no idea what I was talking about. “Do you think his head injury was more serious than we thought?” Stone turned to Thyme and expressed his concerns.

Screenshot-7856

My mind was swimming. I pulled my still numb legs up to my chest, that position always made me feel safer.

know I went to the future. It was all real, it wasn’t just a head injury. Stone had to be lying, he just had to be. It couldn’t all be a figment of my imagination, right? I’ve never been that imaginative, I couldn’t create an entire world of people!

But,

It wasn’t real.

I remembered now.

The time machine was a supply closet. Whenever I got upset, I’d sit in there and imagine I was in the future. Somehow, my mind convinced itself it was all real.

“No, no!” I screamed over and over.

“Get the doctor, he’s having some kind of breakdown!” Someone yelled, I wasn’t sure who though.

“It had to be real! I know it was real!” I screamed, as I watched the horrified faces of my family and friends. Ginger was crying, as was Stone.

Then, a nurse rushed in with a syringe and within seconds I was unconscious again.

————-

Screenshot-7860

“Hi Lake, I’m Doctor Ashburn.” A man’s voice was the first thing I heard as I came too. “How’re you feeling?”

“Tired, numb.” I responded curtly. I wasn’t in the mood to talk. My head hurt and I was still processing everything.

“Lake, we need to talk about your injuries. We’ll get to the other stuff later.” He was nice enough, but the way he spoke made me feel small. I didn’t like it. When I didn’t respond, he continued speaking. “You suffered a concussion when you fell backwards, and a flying piece of debris struck you in the stomach. Luckily your father was home and called 911 right away or else you would have bled out.”

“Oh, thats why my stomach hurts so bad.” I tried to joke but no one laughed.

“Lake, when the debris hit you, it almost severed you in half. We were able to save your life, and we were able to patch up your insides, but unfortunately, you’re paralyzed from the waist down.”

My stomach dropped. Part of me knew that was rational, I knew it was true. But the other part, the winning part, refused to believe it.

“No, I can walk just fine.”

Screenshot-7862

“Please Lake, don’t.” Ginger pleaded with me as I moved my body to the side of the bed.

“No, no, no, it’s ok. He’s wrong, I’m fine.” I smiled at her as I went to stand.

Screenshot-7863

Immediately, my useless legs gave out from under me and I fell forward.

“Fuck!” I yelled out as I landed harshly on my stomach.

“Oh my god.” Ginger started to cry again.

“Get me a nurse, we’ll help him into the chair.” Dr. Ashburn told one of my family members and within seconds I was being helped off the floor.

Screenshot-7864Screenshot-7867

“This is bullshit.” I buried my face in my hands. I felt like a child, I needed everyone’s help with everything and now here I was, crying in front of everyone.

“I’m sorry Lake, I know this is a lot to process. But we need you to learn how to use the chair now. Don’t worry, your wife will be here with you the whole time. She’ll learn how to help you the best she can.”

“M-my wife?” I asked, confused. “No, Ginger and I aren’t married. Yet.”

Screenshot-7866

“Oh god, he doesn’t remember.” I heard Ginger sob from behind me. My dad started crying too.

“Remember what?”

“Lake, baby, we got married last month. We did it in secret, the only person there was my best friend, Aloe. You remember him, don’t you babe?” Ginger sounded hysterical. But I could not for the life of me, remember this ‘Aloe.’

“I-I’m sorry hun. I don’t know him.”

“He’s here, I can bring him in. Maybe it’ll help jog your memory. Is that okay, doctor?”

“Please do.” Doctor Ashburn gestured to the door.

—————

*Ginger*

Screenshot-7874

As soon as I left Lake’s hospital room, I dropped the concerned wife act. This was all so amazing, it wasn’t part of my plan but everything was falling perfectly into place.

“Hey Baby, I have the best news.”

Screenshot-7875

Aloe Pinson-Shorter sat in the waiting room patiently. He came as soon as he heard about the explosion, the two of us needed a way to use this to our advantage. Luckily, he came up with just the thing.

Screenshot-7879

“Hey Babe.” He approached me with a huge smile on his face.

“I take it everything went well? All the papers are in order?” I asked excitedly.

“Yup, you and Lake are now officially married. How are things on your end?”

“Even better than expected, he’s absolutely insane. Apparently he thinks the supply closet was a time machine, so he tried to blow it up. Now it’s way more believable that he doesn’t remember the ‘wedding.'” I giggled, it was almost too easy to fool this guy.

Screenshot-7878

“This is perfect. You said you think you’re pregnant with his child, yes?”

“Yup, my period is late. I think it’s happening.” I wanted to bounce off the walls with excitement.

“Oh babe, this is excellent. I managed to talk the FRO board into speeding up their plan. Lake’s family should be back into power within the next month, and you know he’s the heir to the throne. That mean’s you’re the queen.” He grabbed my arm softly, I loved when he used that word.

“And as long as I have his kid, there’s no way I’ll lose my position. Especially if he’s locked up in a mental ward his whole life. That can be arranged. Luckily, we have the whole hospital on our side.” We promised the entire staff a huge grant if they helped us get into the throne. They agreed to do anything we needed.

Screenshot-7881

“Soon, we’ll be in control of the entire Fae kingdom. All thanks to you, my queen.” He pulled me into a passionate kiss.

“I love you, Aloe.”

“I love you too, Ginger. But we should probably get into that room, they’re gonna get suspicious.”

————-

*Lake*

Screenshot-7883

“Lake, honey. This is Aloe, my best friend. Remember him?” Ginger came back in the room a few minutes later.

“Hi Lake, how are you?” The unfamiliar man spoke to me as if we knew each other.

“I-I don’t remember him.” He did look familiar, but that’s because he strongly resembled my mother. Same hair color, same skin color. That couldn’t be a coincidence.

“Are you sure? We are related, remember? We found out that our moms were cousins, Venus Pinson and Jasmine Fae.” He smiled slightly.

“That is my mom’s name, but I don’t recognise the other one.”

Screenshot-7884

“I do.” My dad said from behind me. “I never knew her, but Jazz talked about her a lot. They used to be really close, then Jasmine found out Venus married her ex. She was not happy about that.” My dad sounded really sad, but it was the most I’ve ever heard him say about my mother.

“I-I don’t remember any of this.” I admitted. Maybe that head injury was really bad.

“That’s ok Lake, we’ll work on getting your memory back.” Doctor Ashburn assured me.

Screenshot-7886

“Doctor, I just got in touch with the psychologist.” A nurse walked in and quietly spoke to the doctor.

“And?”

“She says that based on your report, we should immediately send him to a mental health facility to be evaluated. She thinks he may need permanent institutionalization.”

Screenshot-7885

“What? I’m gonna be locked in an asylum for the rest of my life? I’m too young for this! I’m only twenty-three!” I started to panic, the thought of being in a hospital for the next eighty or so years was absolutely terrifying.

“Lake, this isn’t for sure. It’s just a possibility. We need to get you evaluated first.”

The entire room was silent except for the soft sobs of my family and friends. No one knew what to say or how to react.

Screenshot-7890

I was insane and paralyzed. I’d never have a normal life again.

If you have any questions, for me or any of the characters, shoot me an ask here! I’ll gladly answer anything you need, unless it’s a spoiler for the next generation.

There will be a generation five, don’t worry this isn’t the end. But there will not be an heir vote, unfortunately. Sorry about that, but I have a feeling you guys are gonna love what I have planned for the next generation. Thanks for reading 🙂

Lake Fae Chapter 20: Cause and Effect

Screenshot-7771

“Geez.” I shook myself off after coming out of the machine. I had forgotten how uncomfortable the feeling of time travel was. Every time it felt like I was in a hurricane and there was something heavy on my chest. It was not a good feeling.

Screenshot-7774

“Hello?” I called out, noticing that my friends were nowhere to be found. I glanced around the area, but I was all alone here.

“What the hell…” I muttered to myself as I noticed how different everything looked.

Screenshot-7776

The sky was no longer bright blue, but a dark, foggy green. Everything was dull and rusty, unlike the bright, shiny chrome it used to be. The more I looked around, the more I noticed. The ground had huge cracks in it, it looked as if things were falling from the sky.

“How did this happen?” I whispered to myself in disbelief. How could things change so much in a year?

Screenshot-7777

“Hello?” I called out again, this time inside the building.

“Hey baby, we’re in here.” A familiar woman’s voice called from my left.

Screenshot-7778

“Guys?” I approached one of the rec areas and saw my friends. Or, what was left of them. They looked awful. Their clothes were old and dirty, they looked like they hadn’t showered in weeks, and they all looked like they were coming down from a heroin high.

Screenshot-7779

“Oh, you’re not the dealer.” Lyra scoffed and rolled her eyes. She lazily took a puff from the joint in her hand. “You shouldn’t have come back here.”

“What? Why.”

Screenshot-7785

“Why? Are you fucking kidding me? Look around, asshole! Look what you’ve done to this place! You ruined everything.” Canis yelled angrily.

“What? How is this my fault?”

“The drugs! You left them here, everyone’s addicted now and the world is shit. It’s all your fucking fault!” He screamed, and jumped up off the couch.

Screenshot-7791

Before I could react, his fist connected with my face and sent my flying to the ground.

Screenshot-7795

“What the hell man, I didn’t fuck things up on purpose!” I defended myself from my spot on the floor.

“What were you trying to do then?” He seethed.

“I was just trying to get you guys to have a little fun. I didn’t think you guys had access to any more drugs, so when those ran out I thought you’d be done! And I was messed up back then, but I’m clean now.”

“Thanks for rubbing it in, asshole.” Canis looked as if he were about to hit me again.

“Canis, calm down.” Andromeda pleaded, her voice hoarse and tired, nothing like the exuberant person I used to know. “Lake, sit, we’ll explain everything.”

Screenshot-7801

As I took a seat, I couldn’t help but notice the extensive stash they had laid out on their table. They had weed, heroin, prescription drugs I couldn’t see the names of, and a few baggies of cocaine. Though I’d been clean for a while, it was hard for me. I still craved the highs, and being so close to these drugs probably wasn’t good.

“W-what’s going on?” I asked shakily, tearing my eyes away from the stash and focusing on Andromeda.

Screenshot-7781

“Well, after you left we used up the rest of your stash. But we wanted more, so we sent Orion back to your time to try and get some more. He met a dealer, and ever since then the guy comes once a week to drop off more stuff. Lyra usually gives him his payment.” She motioned towards the vampire on the pool table. Now I understood why she was dressed that way and called me baby…

“Who’s your dealer?” I asked, I knew all the dealers in Appaloosa Plains.

“We don’t know his real name. But he calls himself Ninja.”

“Huh, I don’t know him.” I was puzzled. He must be a new dealer or a guy from out of town.

Screenshot-7782

“We need you to do us a favor, Lake. We can’t keep living like this. But we can’t stop on our own.” Orion slurred slightly.

“Of course guys, whatever you need I can help.” I owed it to them, I got them into this mess.

“We need you to blow up your time machine.”

Screenshot-7800

“What? I can’t do that. That would set my dad’s house on fire, and I’d never be able to see you guys again.” The thought of blowing up the machine made me sick. I loved time travel; I couldn’t just give it up like that.

“Please Lake, it’s the only way.” Andromeda begged. “If we keep going like this, the entire planet will get destroyed. We need this.”

“I-I don’t know. I don’t even have anything to blow it up with.”

“I have an explosive. I would’ve done it myself but I would’ve gotten stuck there.” Orion explained.

Screenshot-7797

“Please Lake, look at Ursa.” Canis motioned towards his unconscious wife. “She’s never awake anymore. She just wakes up, gets high and passes out. I don’t know what to do.” He looked as if he were about to cry.

“Okay, I’ll do it. But can I say goodbye to Seven first? Where is she?” I asked, noticing my robot wasn’t around.

“Sure, she’s downstairs. She’s been powered down for a while though, so theres really no telling what she’ll be like.” Orion offered.

“That’s ok, I just need to see her.”

————

Screenshot-7807

“Seven?” I cautiously approached her so I wouldn’t scare her. If you could even scare a robot… I wasn’t sure, so better safe than sorry.

“Master?” She asked as she sprung to life.

“Hey Seven, it’s me!” I exclaimed.

Screenshot-7814

“I warned you. I told you that was a bad idea. Look at the world now.” She scolded.

“I know, and I’m gonna make it right. I’m gonna blow up the time machine. I just wanted to say goodbye to you first.”

“Good. That will fix things.”

Screenshot-7818

“I’m glad. I’m sorry I messed things up so badly. And I’m sorry I have to leave you here, but once the group gets clean I know they’ll take good care of you.”

“Yes, Master. I will miss you.”

“I’ll miss you too.” I kind of felt like I wanted to cry, but I wouldn’t let myself. Not yet, not until I got home.

“Goodbye Master.”

“Goodbye Seven.” I gave her a pat on her cold, metal shoulder and headed for the stairs without looking back.

———–

Screenshot-7820

“I’m sorry the others aren’t here to see you off.” Andromeda apologized as I got ready to leave the future for the last time. The others were either too high or too pissed off to come say goodbye.

“That’s ok, maybe its for the best.” I responded sadly. I hated that things had to end on such bad terms.

Screenshot-7822

“I’m really sorry for all the damage I caused. I promise I’ll fix this.” I carefully placed the explosive in my pocket. My heart sped up, I really hoped this thing wouldn’t go off on its own.

“Thank you, Lake.” Orion smiled slightly. I nodded, before preparing myself for time travel, for the very last time.

Screenshot-7827

After punching numbers into the machine, I turned to them and gave them one last wave. They waved back with small smiles.

The doors of the machine opened and soon I was jumping towards that familiar purple light.

————-

Screenshot-7829

“Bye.” I said softly to myself as I arrived back at home. My heart hurt, ever since I was little I loved robots and futuristic things, now I had to give all that up. But I messed up, and I needed to fix this. I couldn’t be selfish this time.

Screenshot-7834

But could I do this? I wasn’t sure if I had it in me. Now that the task was right here in front of me, I didn’t know if I could go through with it. Could I really destroy my brother’s work? How would I explain this to my dad?

No, I had to stop making excuses for myself. I had to do this now, I’d deal with the consequences later.

Screenshot-7838

Slowly I pulled the explosive out of my pocket. Orion had briefly showed me how to use it, and I quickly followed his instructions, threw the device on top of the machine and ran for cover.

Screenshot-7840

I covered my ears and waited for the blast. As much as I didn’t want to destroy the portal to the future, I was kind of excited to see an actual explosion.

Screenshot-7842

Within seconds, the detonator went off and the entire machine exploded and quickly burst into flames Debris was flying from the machine and all over the small garage.

Screenshot-7843

The blast was so strong it sent me flying backwards into the trash. I watched as a large piece of metal came flying at me, but right before it hit me, my vision went black.

A/N: Next chapter is Lake’s finale 🙂
